I saw Van Halen in 1982, 1984, 1986 & 2004. Twice with Roth, twice with Hagar. EVH will forever be my guitar god. Let the man rest in peace and let Wolfie get on with his own life & career. Losing your father is tough enough without everybody with a microphone asking you about a tribute to your dad. Van Halen's legacy is set in stone. We have the memories of going to the concerts and buying the albums. That is more than enough for me. Peace.

@@markrobertdevison1227 wow. You seen the 78 tour. I’m Jealous!! Must of been in Cali ? And you think Sammy was better. That’s a rare statement. I’ve seen both many of times. Even the Roth , Sammy show they toured on. But my 82 Fairwarning tour was a Top 5 show of all time for me. Having 2 row in front of Eddie didn’t hurt. But I was blown away at that show. David was on fire then. And for me to work a 100 shows or better. And seen Around 200 more. That says a lot about that show. And I’ve seen a lot of greats !!! Interesting quote. Just glad you got to see greatness. That 78 show had to be great tho
I am just glad VanHalen as a whole career gave us some unforgettable and deeply impactfull music. The background of our youth. We are very blessed to have enjoyed their talents.

Hagar is the opposite of class,it’s over for him as well as DLR. From a great gig with Ronnie Montrose he left went solo did ok not great as a solo artist then found his calling in 86 with 5150 and it energized the band for a couple records but it got tired and boring and Sammy claims he was fired and I can believe that because Eddy thought he WAS the band and singers didn’t matter until VHIII and Gary Cherone Once that bombed they brought Sammy back but Michael Anthony had to give up his publishing and royalties in order to be a part of the 2004 tour where Eddy’s drug use ruined his artistic ideas and they hit the road a mess and from all I’ve read and heard that was that, and Eddy finally hit rehab and got his feces coagulated and came out clean and I saw them in 2012 and they sounded great,it’s just sad now everyone wanting a piece of Eddy now that he’s gone. Just let it go!
Honestly, Wolf's participation in Taylor's tribute, showing us all that he CAN play his dad's songs note for note, with the same feel, and with THAT smile on his face, was the only tribute we needed. The legacy is there, and that one performance is the single thing Eddie would be the most proud about, more than any star-filled 3 hour tribute. And I'm sure his dad would be also proud that he chose to follow his own path.
For me, as a 65 yr old hard rock guitarist, we are not likely to see another Edward Van Halen. His loss, to me, is immeasurable. He represents a complete paradigm shift in how the instrument is played. Artists like that just don't come along very often. I would rank him higher even than Hendrix as far as his innovation and inventiveness. His fingerprints are all over modern music. His influence on other musicians reaches past the horizon. He died much too young. The loss still stings a little. RIP Edward Van Halen, for you have surely earned it.

I think a half million guitar players at this point in time can mimic Edward and duplicate his sound on specific licks or tracks. However, I think only one man could play like Ed if he chose to and his name is Wolfgang. No one else on Earth has sat and watched the rhythm, tendencies, thought pattern, frustrations, invention, design, wizardry, hand and fret board movement, and philosophy like Wolfgang Van Halen. I believe even more so than Alex. Only in his 20's, Wolfgang already possesses the incredible ability, technique, and technical excellence that a small percentage of guitarists ever achieve.
Always liked Van Halen, didn't love em until Sammy joined, something about Eddie's playing on 5150 and even more on OU812 was just magical, it hit me right in the heart, still does! Sammy's vocals were the icing on the cake!
Man.. it was sooooo good in this interview to see Sammy's heart... ❤️ jessenashvillejames 👍
Can't imagine how cool this show would be, think of the all the great guitar players that would love to do this.
He waxes poetic on being this honest person, but sales don’t lie, from Guitar World: Roth absolutely wins the Van Halen commerce battle with 57 million sales worldwide to Hagar's 27 million worldwide sales. So adding another 20 million in sales is a nice bit of revisionist history on his part to say the least. Good on Alex, he doesn’t have to prove anything to anyone. If you weren’t fortunate enough to catch Van Halen when they were active it’s your loss. I didn’t catch The Doors either.
@prowlprime

You act as though Eddie had nothing to do with it but he was in complete control. It’s not a Roth vs. Hagar thing and it never has been. Roth left because Eddie wanted to completely change the sound of the band and the music they were making. He found the perfect frontman for the new sound in Hagar. So the change is on Eddie and the sales are on Eddie. And Hagar has always been an honest, stand up guy. The same can’t be said for Eddie and Alex, two talented guys who were only ever loyal to themselves and who would stab their own band members in the back at the drop of a dime.

There shouldn't be a cheap "tribute" show for Eddie Van Halen. Eddie was in music for the love of doing the music, not for the publicity from it. He was always 100 percent focused on the process of making music, just like his brother and Dave. That's where they cut their stone. Playing all the time and bootstrapping themselves to greatness. They didn't come from a publicity, sell themselves to a manager background. These "tribute" shows are just a way for these guys to exploit a band members death for money.

Before I write this I have to say Van Halen will always be my favorite band. I’ve seen them 20 times through the years. My son is named after them (Halen). A fitting tribute for this band is turmoil, verbal wars, and bad blood. That’s what tore this band apart along with Roth’s ego. Us fans were robbed of music bc of different lead singer’s and inner band fighting. Ed and Al treated M. Anthony bad. Since 1995 two studio albums and a best of. I know you have to throw Ed’s health in there. Every band has problems but Van Halen’s problems were at a another level. Hopefully Wolfie will unlock the Van Halen vault someday and let us hear some unreleased material. Hopefully. I miss you Ed. 🎸☝🏽😔
Greetings from Jundiaí, Brazil 🙏🙏🙏 I was in the United States back in 2010 during my 2-month student exchange program in Springfield, Illinois. During that time, I met a gentleman who worked as a security guard for the band during their 2004 tour. He told me terrible stories about what happened behind the scenes. According to him, there was always a bunch of rifts, strife, verbal altercations, fights, threats and too much confusion during that whole tour. He said it seemed like a battlefield, a warzone and he thought that a tragedy was about to start. In order to try to diminish the war zone, Eddie & Alex + Sammy & Mike had to sleep in different hotels, be chartered by different vans, travel on separate flights, their meals at different restaurants, dress up in different dressing rooms and get on and off stage from different sides and when their apart was unavoidable, Eddie & Alex just spoke in dutch ir order to ignore Sammy & Mike. That's very sad to know that.
Let's just be happy that there was a Van Halen.
As a fan it's a big shame to see a group of guys who were so successful for so long end up like this ! Good luck Sammy, Mike you two have been the bomb. 👋

Yeah, it’s kinda sad that the egos can’t be set aside for one night, to put on a tribute to the music that was made, embraced by fans, and was the result of dedication, hard work ethic, & incredible raw talent that was EVH. Sammy seems to understand that it’s what is most important, and would be involved in putting something like that together with the others who’ve already made attempts to organize it. Obviously, Wolfgang should be consulted for a thumbs up, and included in the celebration. Unfortunately, for reasons that none of us are privy to, or would understand, it seems like Alex and/or Dave can’t put their creative differences, jealousy, and with DLR, an inflated sense of self-worth aside, and put on a tribute for the fans. If they wait too long, they’ll lose that opportunity, if they haven’t already done so.
Van Halen set it's legacy in stone let us just enjoy what music they put out there for the fans there will never be another van Halen so R.I.H Eddie and let's just keep the music alive which it will never die .
Sammy your a good guy thank you for all you do do rock on
From what I've heard Alex is not really interested in playing without his brother.....I totally understand that. When you get to that legend level and have financial security there is no reason to play any gig you don't want to play. People always talk about what an ass axl rose can be.....well he really doesn't HAVE to do anything. Stephen Stills said "I don't do things that don't make me smile...."
Al doesn’t owe anybody a damn thing.

Some friends and I we’re sitting around the fire drinking some beers and we were all talking about how there will be no more great music coming from Edward Van Halen!!, We all grew up on VanHalen and they are absolutely the number one fucking band around Eddie is the greatest guitar player ever!! so if they did a tribute night concert I would absolutely go no matter where it is ,So if Alex has a stick up his ass he needs to pull it out get over it and salute his brother and his band!!.,
I have always been before and after Van Halen a HUGE Sammy Hagar fan. When Sammy joined Van Halen and I heard "Why Can't This Be Love" the first time on the radio I actually jumped out of bed while I was having sex just to listen to what I thought at the time was THE greatest collaboration of 2 world's meshing together. There will never be a beautiful sound as that night I heard that band together and I have to disagree with most of the comments. I really think Al owes it to his brother, his nephew, his family, his friends and more importantly the fans that made him and his brother the icons that will forever be imbedded in our lives. I think it's rather selfish that for 1 night, just 1 night he can't swallow his pride for whatever reason to say I love you Eddie, this is for you.
Hard to imagine what Alex feels losing Ed on top of being stubborn as Sammy describes. He might have lost a lot of motivation to even play drums without Ed around

I agree. I mean stubbornness aside, just with how close they were, and the fact Al never really played or collaborated with anyone unless Eddie also was; he probably feels like a part of his own sound and soul died with him.

It’s got to be really really hard for Alex he not only lost a band member he lost his BROTHER people seem to forget that losing a family member hurts so bad I don’t care who you are you lose a mother a father a sister brother it hurts really bad you have to experience a death to really understand it so yeah I can understand Alex not wanting to play he lost his brother

@@kathys1285 especially one that you became even closer to because you went through something together. Not just coming to the US and not speaking English, but bullying, their parents dysfunction, etc. Stuff like that can make siblings stick extremely close together and be each other's raft. I remember an interview with Eddie from '83 or 5 where he was talking about Al's first divorce and he got tears in his eyes saying he wished he could absorb his pain so Alex wouldn't have to deal with it.
Well said Eddie
Love it Sammy sounds great.
The Van Halen brothers had a strange and difficult upbringing. Coming to America and not speaking English, and only having each other for friends at first, that’s definitely part of it. Also, their mother was supposedly mentally ill, somewhat. She was a bit negative and paranoid with them, which I think-combined with Roth being a control freak-made them very distrustful of others. Certainly Dave left them wanting to take over their own band when he left, which also lead to distrust of others. And while I love Ed and Al, they certainly fucked over Michael Anthony as well as ex-manager Noel Monk.
No disrespect to Taylor but it is a damn shame that EVH, one of the most influential musicians of modern music, hasn't had a tribute, whereas a relatively less impactful drummer had an amazingly executed and heartfelt tribute within a matter of months of passing away.

He barely got a mention at the Grammys the year he died too I feel like VH is a band that's been followed by "curses" like something has to even out how great they are, like from the drama, infighting, to often being lost in the shuffle, setting a trend then being trampled by the copiers, having amazing music but only one song making it number 1, etc. It's weird
Kinda sad how it all came to an end and that there’s still tension after all these years but I’m just glad it happened man that’s the only peace I need, it happened. RIP Eddie.
We have had the reunion tour, the Sam and Dave tour, the mini tribute at the Taylor Hawkins tribute show.we’ve got decades of music and memories as their legacy, and as a bonus we have the chance to watch his gifted son Wolfgang become his own artist. That’s tribute enough in my opinion, kick back, set the volume on 11 and fire one up. That’s the only tribute we need now.
Sammy’s Right!!!! Wolfie is carrying the torch for the VH legacy now!!!!!! As for Alex, he lost his brother so it’s understandable where he’s coming from!!!!!:/ I really really HOPE that they do a tribute thing to honor Eddie!!!!! As for Diamond Dave……..Love him!!!!! But SAMMY and Dave are like Oil and Water!!!!!!:/:/

Over two years ago, but yeah. I mean Mike was interviewed earlier this year and said he and ex have talked every few months to catch up and Alex is still very much hurting and grieving Reminds me when Valarie said she believes everyone has more than one soulmate; Eddie and Alex were soulmates, they had been through aot of stuff together; coming to a country where they were discriminated and bullied for being foreign (and tbh being multiracial too must have had something to do with it) thier parents fighting, thier dad's alcoholism, etc. that was why they were so close, for better or worse. Alex probably feels like a part of himself died, he's also never played with anyone but Eddie. He's gonna have a hard time before he ever feels like he can
We need a van Halen tribute show on VH1
Eddy will always be a virtuoso in my book man and Alex had huge influence on my life my and my drumming it was magic and the brothers knew that
Why trust Sammy with anything personal or important? He'd just tell everyone
I don't know what the problem is but everyone needs to swallow their pride and do the tribute to Eddie he deserves it you all need time to heal however long it takes but get your assess together and do it for the fans that is who made you who you are and let Eddie's legacy live on forever
WVH is a musical force unto himself.
It’s amazing they had bands as long as they did twos company especially brothers and threes a crowd
sammy didn't steal anthony from vh, eddie had already decided to ax anthony. and eddie allowed himself to be swayed by some new manager telling him that sammy was leading van halen, eddie fell for that. it goes without saying that eddie and alex did not want to lead the band nor make decisions and that's why it seemed that sammy was their leader. sammy has a head for business and he took the steps to keep halen relevant after roth departed. i think that that's what alex is upset at not to mention that sammy offered the group a piece of the cabo cantina in the beginning and they turned it down.....OH WELL!!! alex and dave both need to grow up and suck it up and put together the best damn tribute concert ever. i guarantee that if they do that, wolf would gladly be a part of that.

Thank You, Sammy Truth Eddie desereves the send-off.
Honestly, if Sammy hadn't written his little tell- all book, and berated the Brothers Van Halen, it might be possible to bring these guys together to pay homage

I have imense respect for the VH bros, but there is a fuck ton of evidence they spent of lot of their moments being dicks to those close to them. A tribute isn't needed anyway, their body of work speaks for itself.

Hmm remember when they bought sammy back in 2004?
Something like the Foo Fighters tribute would a great event and we all hope it happens.
A Tribute would be cool to celebrate the music with all members of the band in memory of EVH
I think it would do every member of Van Halen; their family, fans and industry to have a tribute show so we can all have closure on Eddie’s monumental legacy. 💀🔥🎸
Ok, Hopefully I'm not the only one here that requests this, but this channel NEEDS to do a video focusing on the loss of one of the GREATEST Rock N Roll singers of ALL TIME!!!! Dan McCafferty from the band Nazareth Passed away 5 days ago on November 8th 2022, and I'm barely hearing jack shit about it, except from some of the die hard fans. Now hopefully what's taking so long for you guys to report on this, is that you are gathering all your information on this LEGENDARY vocalist, to present us with an OVER THE TOP video about about how much of an impact this man had on shaping the metal vocalists of today. He had the power and the soul in his singing to raise the fucking dead!!! Put to rest all of this bickering about a Van Halen reunion. Get over it! Ain't gonna happen folks! So, let's talk about a man that helped influence and shape a genre of music called METAL!!! Dan McCafferty put to shame so many singers from the 70's to present day. Axl Rose worshipped this man and you can hear the influence in his vocal style. And, he's not the only one who recognized Dan's INCREDIBLE balls out, raspy voice, that so many singers would sell their soul to possess!! So, I'm gonna give you guys a little bit more time to get all your little duckies in a row to prepare and report on one of THE MOST INFLUENTIAL SINGERS, that has ever walked this earth!! And, It'd better be good!!!

@@briandavis2885I take it that you’re not a fan, and that’s fine. But Dan had an incredibly powerful voice that had a major impact on metal singers. Not sure what your point is about Axl not being able to sing anymore. Many singers, Axl Rose, Sebastian Bach, Brian Johnson, Rob Halford, Bruce Dickinson, Ian Gillan, Robert Plant, AND the list goes on! All of them, including Dan, cannot match the vocal abilities they had back in their heyday. Does that mean they are not relevant, because they can’t sing anymore? All singers will eventually struggle to sing and perform like they used to. My point is, that Dan McCafferty deserves to be remembered and celebrated, just like all the rest should be as well.

If you want peace with him, don't say he's got a stick up his ass. He's lost his brother. The grieving process takes years to truly allow someone to even begin speaking, or functioning the way "they used to." It never goes away. Jeez Sammy. You sound earnest and genuine one minute, sounding like you really want people to come together and get over the dysfunction. Then you go and illustrate exactly what keeps you apart.
I loved Eddie. Its been 2 years. I will alwats remember him but let it go!!!!
If you are invited to the party does not mean you take over it.......its Alex and Eddie's band it will always be.....❤VH❤
Alex in my opinion, maybe still Having a hard time with Eddies passing on right no kidding,In my opinion this Rock and Roll phenomena is nothing comparing to the love he lives with loosing Eddie in the process
I love Sammy and all, but you can’t write a book that goes into detail about Al’s alcoholism and former financial problems without his consent and then expect him to talkto you. That part of your book wasn’t your story to tell. Maybe he feels betrayed by that.

And by writing about Eddie's addiction too. Like even if "everyone could see it, I didn't write about something that was a secret" like Sammy said, it's like...dude. I can't say I wouldn't be like Al and possibly find that unforgivable, even if Eddie did in the end, I can't blame Alex really
I love Alex.
Al and I are both Tauruses! We'll always have all those legendary years and all that classic music to look back on in remastered editions, future Atmos remixes, etc.!
I think they should compromise and do a Friday night show with Diamond Dave doin the classics and Saturday night show doin the VanHagar years with Sammy,,,and so no pressure on Wolfgang,,he hand picks the guitarists for each of the tunes....
