Sammy absolutely carried the Rat Pack with the insane amount of talent he had. If it weren't for the era of discrimination he lived in, he would've blown Frank out of the water. Another crazy thing worth noting is how powerful his voice is. Look how far away the mic is during the finale of the song.

he absolutely was BETTER than Sinatra..vocal power, range...penetrating intensity of expression IN the voice, not just through interpretative style..and far more powerful timbre...SAMMY had the range and power of TRUE opera singer actually..not "crooner

Ultimate showman with real talent. A beautiful, sensitive man who withstood so much racism and bad friendships - except for Frank Sinatra whose only fault was insensitivity at times ( those late Rat Pack shows were truly cringeworthy) 😮 Great to have this record and thanks for posting

A lot of his early stuff was done in nightclubs in the 40’s and 50’s, where he paid his dues. Because of his smoking we probably didn’t see him in his prime.

George was fine as a musical conductor And was with Mr. Davis a long time, ; but George and his wife who was Mr. Davis’s Financial manager cheated him out of hundreds of thousands of dollars throughout their employee with him. Sources say also that Mr. Davis’s wife at the time , Altovise Davis also sold all his assets and cheated him out of most of his money during the time he was gravely ill before his death. It’s a controversy that some of the family disputes and some say is absolute truth, I choose to believe that all these people took advantage of Mr. Davis. When he got his diagnosis of throat cancer, he had a choice as to whether to have surgery or to keep the entertainment dates that he was scheduled for for the next year or two, because he was literally destitute, so he chose to keep on singing even though it led to his death. People took advantage of him horribly, regarding money and he also was reported to have spent Money himself, extravagantly at times, but the fact that his very own wife and his trusted friends would do such a thing to him and pretend to be loving and caring is something I can’t forgive or forget. Mr. Davis‘s son is one source of information Regarding all of those that I have read in past years. Sammy had two children, of course both are grown now and I believe they were young adults when he passed away, i’m not sure if he had a will I believe he did ,but the wife Altovise contested it ,and already has stripped the house of everything valuable while he was comatose and dying at his Woodland Hills home in California in 1989. Very sad ending for a very beautiful person and talented man beyond imagination. Rest in peace Sammy Davis Junior 😢😭🌹⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🎵🎶🎶🎶🎵🎵🎵🎶⭐️⭐️

Prefer Sammy's version to Robert Goulet's. RG is like "well this is an issue, I need to fix it." Sammy's is more "this is my essential nature that I cannot change and I am alone for life and screwed."

What kind of fool am I Who never fell in love It seems that I'm thee only one That I have been thinking of What kind of man is this An empty shell A lonely cell in which An empty heart must dwell What kind of lips are these That lied with every kiss That whispered empty words of love That left me alone like this Why can't I fall in love Like any other man And maybe then I'll know What kind of fool I am What kind of clown am I What do I know of life Why can't I cast away this mask of play and live my life Why can't I fall in love Like any other man And maybe then I'll know What kind of fool I am
