I loved every performance live, on TV, Radio or recordings. If you love Sammy and enjoy reading get a hold of one his biographies. The "little man' was abandoned by his mother at 3 yrs old, his grandmother raised him until he was old enough to go on the road with his Dad & Uncle. They traveled from town to town performing in dives, old roadhouses, many times performed for the white people who would pay to see them but wouldn't allow them to stay in hotels or eat at lunch counters with them. Sammy was encouraged to sing professionally by Sinatra but he told him to quit trying to sound like when they played as the opening act. He said your voice is strong just find your own voice. Of course later Sinatra helped him get movie roles and supported Sammy financially when he had the car accident & lost his eye. Sammy was also a big supporter of Black folks from the early 50's and marched with with Martin Luther King, Thurgood Marshall, Harry Bellafante, all the original NAACP members, Robert Kennedy, Edgar Evers, John Lewis, Julian Bond and Malom X. The sad thing is many Black people considered him an "Uncle Tom" kisses to White people. He was booed at at performance and he had the courage to say in response to that said "He was Black, always will be Black & proud to say it. AND I ain't going to apologize to anyone for that". He was so misunderstood by so many people. His excellence in all performance cost him so very much with his family. He married May Britt in 1960 and was shunned by many White people. They adopted two children and his daughter just died this year, 2022. Their marriage only lasted about 7 rs because of Sammy's affairs and long late nights away from their family. Years lately May said she should have stuck with it and Sammy always maintained she was his greatest love.

“For those watching it at home, no matter where you are, I consider you part of the audience” Here I am, watching it in 2023 on KZread, being officially considered part of his audience. Feels as posthumous interaction with him.😀

Best All Around Entertainer ever! There have been great "saloon singers" and vocalists but Sammy did it all and always gave it his all. I've been fortunate to see him live 2Xs. Once at the Sands in Vegas with my parents when I turned 18. The second was in a ST Paul MN venue with Frank Sinatra & Dean Martin. The BEST concert in my life. I've seen Lena Horn, Tony Bennett, Lou Rawls, Paul Anka, Cher, Tina Turner, Prince, Michael Jackson and many others I have long forgotten now. Sammy remains the best.

A truly remarkable performance from the greatest entertainer of all time. Such feeling in "What kind of fool am I". I had tears rolling down my cheeks. Amazing. Just hope some of our current "performers?" have the opportunity of seeing a true master in action. They might learn a thing or two!

Amazing....napaka-galing dito ni Sammy. Yung impersonation lahat kuha...paborito part yung kay Jerry Lewis, Jimmy Stewart at Marlon Brando. Ang pikamalupit yung finale "What kind of fool I am" ito in my opinion ang best version niya theatrical ang dating buhos na buhos ang feeling nya...heavy ang dating. Siya ang pinaka most rounded artist by farrrrrr!!!! He can do comedy, acting, dancing.....but when it comes to singing he can do Jazz, Blues, Ballad and Broadway on top of that every time pag nag perform siya masyadong deeeeeeeeep!!!!! Too bad wala ka nang makikita artist now a days na katulad nya.
