Sammy Davis Jr. - I’ve Gotta Be Me (Original single version from the Sky Q TV Ad)

‘I’ve Gotta Be Me’ is the title track of Davis’ 1968 Reprise album, re-issued and re-mastered in 2016 as part of Charly Records The Original Reprise Album Series. The song itself enjoyed great chart success, climbing to number 11, while its personal biographical references plus Davis’ emotive reading combined in making it the definitive interpretation, quickly becoming one of Sammy Davis Jr.’s signature songs. Over forty years since its original release, ‘I’ve Gotta Be Me’ will no doubt delight a new generation of fans hearing Sammy Davis Jr. accompany the stunning Sky Q ad campaign.

@@dennislumley9970 Yes, it's a universal song but for me and my way of thinking it apply's to the plight of my Black people and what has happen to them 'historically'. We have not been allowed to be as free has others, because what's happen to black people, nobody else had to endure. Saying that Sammy was incredibly talented and a wonderful gentleman and human being is automatic. He himself still dealt with a lot of racism. I've learned that one can become both militant and humanist at the same time. You can still be a nice guy fighting for your freedom. Your insertion of the word "But" after you said you agree with me, implies that I'm wrong about something. Everyone didn't go through what Black people went through.

Lol, dude I didn't even know who sang this. Saw the Westworld season 2 trailer and looked this up on a whim. Sammy 'Freakin' Davis, 'Mutha Effin' jr. Lol.

Beautifully said! I was asked once by somone, who is the one singer, not group, or band, you would give anything to see perform in person. One name, Sammy Davis Jr. Precious memories.
