More than opening doors. He was a living example of human potential for all races from humble beginnings. multi-talented singer, dancer, musician, actor, impressionist. electricity in a bottle. - that mystical magical one thing that makes someone a starrr.

Ok, WHERE was he born? WHO were his parents? WHO was his first wife? HOW did he become famous? For what? WHERE IS THE REST OF THIS MANS LIFE? What difficulties did he face getting work in the industry as a young black man?

I once heard a smart actress say that, "If my husband can't be home by dinner time then the marriage will not work". That was 20 years ago and they are still married.

Sammy Davis Jr. During service in World War II, the Army assigned Davis to an integrated entertainment Special Services unit and he found that the spotlight lessened the prejudice. Even prejudiced white men admired and respected his performances. "My talent was the weapon, the power, the way for me to fight. It was the one way I might hope to affect a man's thinking," he said Davis had won Nixon's respect with his participation in the Civil Rights Movement. Nixon invited Davis and his wife, Altovise, to SLEEP in the White House in 1973, the first time African Americans were invited to do so. The Davises spent the night in the Queens' Bedroom

No, Sammy was not worried about embarassing JFK. The opposite was true per Sammy's autobiography. It was JFK who used him to get the black vote, and then tossed him aside.

If you read "Stars to Freedom: Hollywood, Black Celebrities and the Civil Rights Movement" by Emilie Raymond, Davis, while often called a "Tom" by other blacks, raised more money for the civil rights movement than anyone.

@Janotti in a perfect world it would be fine to marry whomever you wanted but the world Sammy lived in did not accept mixed marriages so he would've been better off just staying with his own kind. Still he had a stellar career and life in spite of backlash.

Should have 'E True Hollywood Story' in the video title and year of production, looks like this was produced sometime in the late 90s. Also, his kids, sons weren't "adopted" they were Sammy's real sons.

In 2022 the concept of judging people based on the amount of melanin in their skin is still ridiculous. So much pain and suffering over a chemical in the body, mind boggling. I adore his wife for wanting to adopt children in need.

If you watch the interview with Sammy Davis Jr’s mom recorded in 1997 (KZread) you definitely get a better understanding of him as a person and what may have contributed to his penchant for white women. First, his mom was a gorgeous light-skinned Puerto Rican woman. Second, he was literally raised in show business with his father and they performed with and around whites often. Finally, Sammy’s father, according to Sammy’s mother, also appreciated (dated) white women. Which gave Sammy, I imagine, the notion that it was okay and even possible to date white women too. So, it really wasn’t a mystery after all. It’s just that at the time not only was interracial marriage illegal in 31 states, but the whole idea of anyone wanting to date outside their race was considered taboo and immoral. Sammy was truly a man designed by God to be one of the persons to help open doors for black people in the entertainment business, and he chose to help break down racial barriers in his social life. Truly the greatest!

His bio mother was Cuban not Puerto Rican. She was a street women and you can tell by that interview. Sammy didn’t meet that woman until he was 12. Like Sammy said, he never talked about her because he didn’t know her:
