According to the Trivia Notes on IMDB, the real trumpet playing was done by Nat Adderley. Sammy did a great job selling it though!

No, Sammy does not play this himself.

Maybe but he did play drums, piano and other instruments extremely well. Those are live on KZread.

@@thedarksideoftheforce6658 Indeed but Sammy Davis did not play trumpet. This was "voiced over". You can look up on Imdb who actually played on the soundtrack.
