I really like your philosophy mate and hope you keep calling out the thermal dogs. While they have their place hunting big game on public land certainly isn’t it!

Loving winter. Looking at a few fallow right now. Just got myself a new tikka 308 heavy barrel. Gota Christen her real bloody soon.. maybe today. Had some thermal users up here over the long weekend. Pretty sure they hiked from the back as didn't see anyone drive past or any spot lights .... nice shooting

Great video HD. Today thermal night vision seems to be the biggest priority when it comes to young guys. I’ve seen it working at O’Reilly’s. The thing is most sambar will be shot inside 100 yards (and more so even less). I use a 9.3x62 however it would still be hard today to go past the 30/06. With factory ammo coming in from 125gr to 220gr that’s a cartridge that will cover anything from hog deer to the largest sambar stag. Long range sambar target shooting out to 600 yards (or more) just isn’t my thing. Thanks for sharing.

Good chat. Love that stable ironing board😂. I love me 9.3x62 and happy with hunting within 200m. I can see the appeal for long range stuff but too much risk for me.

Another difference from late last century (God I feel old texting that) is not only in cartridges but in rifles when it comes to weight. Back in the 80’s and 90’s walnut/blued Rugers, Remingtons and Winchesters came in at up to close to 8lbs bare rifle. Today with the Tikka T3X, Sako Finnlight, etc rifle weight has dropped considerably. The Howa light weight now comes in at 4kg. The other side that you’ve touched on sadly has been thermal vision optics and long range deer shooting. Enough said.

Enjoy the winter months their . ❤. Its been way to warm here mate 🇺🇸 Pennsylvania been low 90°F . Garden been hit or miss. I just had surgery for another hernia think this coming hunting season im slowling it back down to black powder vs archery with crossbow and use older rifle as always in winter. Hard beat the old stand bys. 35cal hard to beat work horse for big game especially their. 338 win mag my dad love for years to he got his 45-70. My self use love the 7mm mag here to move to 243win and 30-06 and 35rem . The newer caliber are cool but just more expensive options.

oh honestly, 33-06 is a nice sweet spot but but, all are great, all can run 200grainers... some a little better than others, bush stalking? general stalking? as none are long pokers really.. flashy = 338-06... heavy hitter is the Whelen an all rounder easier on the wallet is a 3006

@@HillDogTV the last time I came to vic hunting I carried my 300wby with 28inchs of pipe hanging off the end of it thinking I was going to find these nice big open hill faces and gullies and would need it! Boy was a wrong 🤣 I would have been better served with a sawn off 12ga and solid slugs, so next time I venture over I’ll be bringing a scrub gun, the 30-06 is an easy choice I reload but ammo is plentiful for the 30, I like the idea of the 338-06 bigger hole in the animal and heavier bullet weight, and the whelen I can also get factory ammo if needed, I guess I’m just wondering if the opportunity ever arrives when there is a big boy standing there is the 30-06 enough gun?
