Sambar Backpack Hunt August 2021

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

A 5 day backpack hunt for Sambar deer in the Victorian high country. On this trip we backpacked 9km to some river flats that we have hunted in past years in search of a mature Sambar stag.
In this video I’ll try to explain some of my hunting techniques and picking the spot to hunt.
My hunt was filmed using a Nikon p900 and a Sony cyber shot cameras.
Hope use enjoy!!

Some spectacular country there! Now I don't want to have a go, but you need to swiftly sack your camera man who managed a big shakey crash zoom into your stag as you took the shot, ha ha. Cheers for sharing

Pity to loose the stag did look like he pulled up pretty quick after the shot did he give you another chance? Hows the pad coming across that creek just above that waterfall/drop off ? They bed in the sun just back from there a bit .

Yeah we thought that but no blood and couldn’t track him well enough. I didn’t see that pad you are talking about, we just punched around from there to get a look on the other sided. There were deer that we pushed out from there though.

@@intothehighcountry blood isn't the only indication of a hit and sambar hair soaks up blood pretty good especially if hit high. Looking at vid he was definitely hit, hard to say where did you get a second shot at him? What bullets are you using?

Looked like a hit shot to me the way the stag tightened up when be ran off great work as you no the deer are certainly not in numbers that have any affect on the eco system of the high country but generate a lot of money from hunters like you blokes and many more that hunt them pity the Victorian government can’t work that out keep up the great videos 👌🦌

Hey guys I hope you don’t take offence to this comment. So I am not going to smooth it over or be offensive but this has to be said. In the opening section of the video two of you are flagging each other with the muzzle of your rifles whilst crossing the river. That is you are pointing your guns at each other. This is contrary to the most basic tenets of gun safety. And as representatives of the hunting community you need to ensure good safety practices are being shown. Safety is a constant practice that each member of the group needs to feel comfortable on pulling the others up on it. There are no second chances with an negligent discharge of rifles. Good Luck with your endeavours.

Hey mate, no offence taken. None of us hunt with a loaded weapon when walking with another person. I’m always a believer in if a deer gets away because you weren’t loaded is better then having to live with something bad because you accidentally knocked the safety switch. It’s probably something that doesn’t look good though so I’ll try fix it in the future. Cheers!
