    There're some many ways to play a samba groove, I think this is pretty good to show the basic form and it's your goal in this video. I've saw a lot of videos that are too far from brazilian music, your job is great, keep drumming! huges from Brasil!

    Very Good Indeed. As a Brasilian Drummer I have to congratulate you for the breakdown you did at the rythm, making it more rational. For us it's very natural to have that pulse inside of you and I had to come to youtube to breakdown the tempo to teach it for a friend of mine. I've never figured it out the division you've made at the snare....I just do it without understanding LOL

    @@kidzbop38isstraightfire92 Relax, mad kid. You don't need to hate Brazilians. I am brazilian and what they call "pulse" is just about doing it with more ease because that's our culture. We see those beats and rythms everywhere so it's easier to replicate when they are learning to play.

    Thank you for the lesson.. It helps me due to I was looking for real samba pattern on my left hand and found this "Partido Alto".. I was playing before using "clave" on my left hand when my friends said I was doing it wrong.. Thank you again and keep up the good work..

    @@natefreedman2972 Sincerely, I am not criricizing. He sounds good but when a Brazilian plays it's different, it's hard to describe but you can notice when the Samba is being played by a foreigner. I play middle eastern rythms but not as Arabs do. I hope this explains. 😇

    Just be careful using a cowbell in Samba. As it is not a traditional instrument in that style. You might get some weird looks playing That on a gig.

    Wow 10 years ago. Thank you for this video! Its very helpful I can't help but notice you play ur bass drum heel down. I'm a heel down fan, but sooooo many drummers recommend heel up. How's heel down for you? Are you able to play loud without getting too tired and for longer hours as well? Does it all boil down to practice basically?

    Just depends what you’re doing really - if you need a sharp, short ‘chick’ sound heel up works well because the weight of the leg keeps the hats closed tighter, but heel down is good for lighter playing where you might want to splash the hats with the foot pedal for an open sound.

    It's pretty straight forward. You just start practing the bass drum pattern at a slow tempo and progressively go a little faster and faster. If you do it for a week or so you'll already notice you get a lot faster. I would make sure to use a metronome when you do it as well.

    As a rule of thumb, kinda. But the samba emphasizes the 2 (or 3, depending how you count). And the cross stick is a little different.
