All my friends love Dean. That's okay, I love him too. But what pisses me off is that they deeply hate Sam. They say he's selfish and useless. You know what? I love Sam because he's real. He's just human. Dean is always pictured as the hero of the story, the one who never thinks of himself, the one who always does great action. I think Sam is a hero as well, a more normal one. Sam went through too much in his life, he was possesssed and manipulated by Lucifer, he lost his mind, he was tortured, physically and mentally, he was kidnapped. And still he managed to find the way back home. Since the moment Lucifer entered his mind he has never been the same, and even if he's not possessed anymore, he has depression, you can clearly see it. Moreover, he is a great hero because despite his struggles, he always help Dean and other people. Yes, he did a lot of mistakes, he betrayed his own brother, but hey, who is perfect here? That's what I mean when I say that Sam is human. He makes mistakes, and then he understands and tries to makes things right again. Sam sacrified everything for Dean, but at the same time he knows that making some things for yourself is not selfish, it means having respect for yourself. Dean is the action kind of hero, he never asks before fighting. Sam is more rational, he looks for a different way that doesn't kill anybody, not even himself. Both the Winchesters have a dark side, and Sam is always dealing with and fighting against his dark being. Sam is the good guy who is struggling with the devil in his mind. He's just afraid of losing his mind again. And despite all of this, he always keeps fighting for his family. Sammy is my hero. Your video perfectly depicted his true being.

Arguing for Sam is a losing battle, lemme tell you. As much as I love this fandom its hypocrisy also really pi**es me off sometimes. Everyone's always like "It's about family!"/ "I love Dean so much 'cause he puts family above all else!"/ "Our fandom and everyone on the show is one big family!" etc. but then they go and say they hate Sam. What they fail to notice, ironically, is that family is about unconditional love. Arguing which brother loves whom "better" and who's "more deserving" of our sympathy is profoundly antonymous to loving someone unconditionally. Family doesn't work that way - at least not in my experience. Having said that, I always found it utterly flabbergasting that people would watch a show in which they hate one of the two main characters. I mean: As much as I love SPN... it's just a TV show. Nobody's forcing you to watch it. Just... don't. It's that simple.

Actually Sam is more selfless than Dean will ever be. Dean doesn't care about Sam's wishes, he just wants to be with Sam even if that's not what he wants. Sam on the other hand doesn't need Dean, but he wishes the best for him and does everything for dean's happiness. Besides Sam is a hero. Dean is a cynic.

@Samantha Winchester. I completely agree! I love both brothers to pieces, but I've always felt the most affinity with Sam. Sam is us. Sam has darkness inside that he can't get away from, that he's had to acknowledge for what it is and learn to fight. And yes, several times he has lost the battle. He's made big mistakes. But when I look at Sam, I don't see the failures. I see who he has become because of them. His pain, his past, his own personal demons, have made him stronger. They've made him more empathetic and caring towards others. They allow him to see the humanity in those Dean would just condemn as monsters. Instead of letting his scars make him hard and bitter, he's chosen to let those circumstances shape him into a bigger person. Sam has been an inspiration to me during a very rough time of my life. As for Sam being selfish...I love Dean, and it's true he would do anything, including die, to save Sam, and has on several occasions. But as Sam himself said, "You didn't save me for me, you saved me for you." Dean can't take the pain of being all alone. Even when Sam was ready to die for the greater good, Dean wouldn't let him, and there have been big consequences because of it. Not that I don't really blame him, either. He's human too. He's been hard-wired to protect his brother. Sam is his whole life. He's given and lost so much, and Sam is all he really has. You take away Sam, you take away Dean's will to live and keep fighting. So I'd say Dean's allowed to be a little selfish. Maybe Sam's a bit selfish in that he doesn't acknowledge that right, but he's just focused on the bigger picture, what will benefit the most people. The point is, they're both imperfect. And that's ok. Anyway. Sorry for that spiel, but I'll just never understand how anyone could hate that beautiful man!

Both of the boys are very real at their core, and I deeply appreciate the bond they share. That being said, I will always be a Sam girl. (I even have the Sam Funko doll sitting on my desk at work) He is the epitome of the Tragic Hero, and Jared plays him beautifully.

The parallels between Sam's and Jack's darkside arcs are so beautifully explored in this. This song fits PERFECTLY with Sam's and Jack's character arcs. Even from the first line, "This is a song about somebody else," it perfectly reflects how the show talks about the relationship between Sam and Jack. Because, yknow what? It is a song about somebody else. The way that people treat Jack, they're not responding to Jack, they're responding to what Lucifer has done and what they believe he could do by vice of being related to him. And, imo, the way that Team Free Will treats Jack is actually a reflection of Sam, what he did do and what they feared he could do. Both Cas and Sam believe that Jack is worthy of being saved, that he deserves love and guidance and care, while Dean, even near the end, believe that Jack isn't worth saving (and how interesting that in s4/5 he believed this about Sam, too?). The reason why their arcs work so well in the show is because they're about being told that your inherent nature is evil, that the person you are is different to the person you choose to be and the actions you make. And Sam is the perfect person to talk with Jack about this because he's literally been there, and this video so wonderfully captures that. The way that you told this story hit me in the gut in a whole new way. And the timing is perfect?? Each clip responds both to the one before it and the lyrics and the music and it is. excellent. My favourite moments were "And I could be wrong about anybody else" marking the point where we move back to Jack and the rise in the music after "It doesn't matter what you are, it only matters what you do" with all the choices that Sam made that truly did define who he was. And "I didn't end bad" just pulling it all back into Sam and Jack, closely followed with his mum and Cas and the two of them. Just. they ruined me. They were so good. Also, bracketing it with the conversation between Sam and Jack and the conversation between Sam and Dean where Sam is the one convincing BOTH of them that Jack isn't evil and deserves to be saved? Wrecked me. Sam has become the person that he deserved to have when he was struggling with his darkside arc. (I've written a lot but I want to make this comment worth being the 70th comment)

Sam's a boy that owed the world nothing and yet he gave himself to the world. That's why he will always be one of my favorite characters in media.

Yes!! This is so amazing!! Sam is such an incredible character and it makes me so sad to see how much hate he is getting sometimes or how he is ignored by the writers or the fandom. So thanks a lot for this! The vid captured him and his struggle so well, loved it!! Can't wait to see more of him and Jack in future episodes and maaaaybe some more Sam vids by you... ;)

AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH OKAY SORRY I NEED TO PROPERLY BREATH WITH A SECOND I made a sam video with this song too a few months ago, but it's so good to see somebody else that thinks this songs fits perfectly to him! and maybe even more now with the jack's storyline! sam&jack relationship is probably my favourite part of season 13, and I'm gonna be so pissed if the writers are just gonna throw it away anyway, I *love* this video! some of the scenes choice were so on point, I can't believe I didn't thought of them when I made the video and I loved when towards the end you paralleled "your mom thought you are and so did cas" with mary and cas caring about sam

I adore them both honestly. I never preferred someone over the other. I'm even shocked by the fact that some supernatural fans seem to choose between them. They're both like my family. I could never.

I love how showed how Sam wants to help people with what he struggled. He won and he want to bring people hope that they can won too. I love Jack and Sam relationship.

I think you did a wonderful job with showing Sam and his character especially as it relates to Jack. They are similar and the pure love that is shown is so wonderful. You captured Sam and how he has had to deal with everything he did so well.

I'm not a Dean girl, and I'm not a Sam girl. I'm a people girl, a people person, and that's why I like supernatural. Not for the morals, because by far the morals of the show and the religious dictation are skewed and messed up. The whole concept of hunting anything that's different to us and treating it like it's something heroic, is hypocritical, and making gratuitous death and murder into something "badass" and "cool" is both unrealistic and frankly, sick. Every time Dean shoots a person through the head and turns away like it's nothing, I don't see Dean. I don't see Dean or Sam in actions like that. To me, they're still kids. With so much potential to be something more, or to break away from abusive parents like John, and he was abusive. Any parent that dictates the life of their children and forces them into violence and murder and things they don't want to do, is abusive, but the extent to which John went was extreme and unforgivable. The fandom, and the show (fan pleasing) really makes Dean into something he's not, they have their heads so far shoved up his ass and into Destiel that nothing else seems to matter. While Sam is either a problem to hate on, or a tool to further those goals - and yet the fandom claims to be family orientated, it can be such a toxic fandom. And anyone that says Dean is selfless and would do anything for Sam is wrong, because he set the tone right from the very first episode where he dragged Sam away from his future on a platter because 1) he felt like it, 2) he doesn't respect what Sam wants, and 3) he is codependent on Sam, it's not the other way around. Now in some ways I actually see myself in Dean, my relationship with my sister is a bit like that even though I'm the younger sister, but I think the two most selfless acts of love are 1) to let someone go, even if it goes against everything you believe in, even if it kills you inside, because it's their life, their choice, and 2) to live for someone, care for them, unconditionally like when Sam went with Dean even though he knew Dean didn't need him. However, I think even though all this is true, what originally brought and kept people watching was the brother dynamic between both Sam and Dean. Even though Destiel is massive, Cas wasn't even introduced until season 4. Their brotherly dynamic is relatable for anyone that has siblings, and especially isolated families like mine, small, close families that stick together because they don't know anyone else. Find it hard to know anyone else with the burdens of being different/poverty that they've grown up with. Siblings drive each other up the wall, they can be angsty and dramatic depending on what they're dealing with and what kind of people they are (Sam and Dean), they can be selfish as only siblings can be likewise they can be selfless, but through it all they love each other, no matter how they act, good or bad, for better or worse. Some people have difficult ways of showing it. And people also have lives of their own, so every time someone says that Sam lied to Dean, he has his own life and sometimes Dean can be like their dad, controlling, and because I respect my sister's independence and because I respect her intelligence I don't ever try to control her. Because I don't need to, I don't have right to. I think it's okay to like Sam or Dean a little bit more than the other for whatever reasons, subconscious or consious, because it's only natural, if we knew them in real life we'd probably get on better with one more than the other even if we were friends with both. But to choose between them, to hate on one and say you're doing it for the other's benefit, goes against everything siblings stand for. Everything it means to be a sibling. A sibling is backup, someone to stand with you, someone to make you tougher, stronger, someone to teach you what it means to share and play rough and tumble, your partner in crime. And sure they may drive you insane, but that's just part of it. Maybe Supernatural encourages negative, toxic fandoms with how impractical, judgemental, and toxic they can make the brothers, but it doesn't mean we should indulge it. To me, Sam and Dean represent kids or young people that could have ended up very differently in their lives. And I'm not talking about all the dream-boring life if their mom hadn't died sort of thing, that was Dean's imagination and his opinions on what education means (clearly he doesn't get it, but that would be fine if he had supported Sam), I'm talking about if they had left John and gone their own ways in life. It's natural to be independent. They represent the forgotten kids. And even though I have faults with them, I love them both and I see more in them than the show allows for because of a religious agenda or other. It doesn't matter though, because that brotherly dynamic, that soulmate love bond, is so strong and intense, it's worth seeing more in them. It's worth it.
