    +Matthew Akers I’m with you. College acceptance based on race doesn’t go far enough. American’s of African heritage deserve full reparations. And it’s not just because of slavery, it’s because after the civil war the former slaves did not rise up. Why should they they were skilled tradesman and farmers who wanted 40 acers and a mule. Once they had their farms and communities the white militias burned them down claiming that a white woman was raped or some bullshit. They were forced into cities where they had to hustle to survive. You can’t grow your own food in the city so some socio economic crime happened and they were then shoved into prisons where they are over represented as violent crimminals. Yeah bro, we agree affirmative action is horse shit.

    @@nickc3856 Most of Ben's platform is based on strawman arguments, I thought you knew. Ben usually forms an argument on an informal fallacy while giving the impression that he is actually refuting his opponent's argument, while in actuality refuting an argument that wasnt even presented in the first place. Ben does it all the time and his idiot followers and probably you as well thinks he is a genius for doing so. There are like whole YT videos of Shapiro doing this, he just uses clever wording an moves certain facts around to seem like he is making a legitimate point while out of no where cherry picking some random fallacy an trying to make a correlation to to that with what his opponent is saying ; while sounding intelligent an confident to sell it. An he talks fast so in debates if you dont interrupt him while he is making his failed fallacy point ;you would actually not give a second thought to it ;because it comes off as natural because he is speaking fast an rambling off random talking points and facts that are not even a part of the debate.

    You know, sargon and thunderfoot pretty much hate each other at this point. There was a drama a while back, where some male feminist killed his girlfriend, and sargon and some others from that circle were cracking jokes about it, heavily implying his feminism was the reason he killed her. It should go without saying, but they were is fairly bad taste. Thunderfoot made a video calling them out on it, and basically pulled away from even talking about feminism at all, not wanting to be a part of that sort of toxicity. Clearly, it means _something_ to these people because they keep calling and crying about it. Ideas and concepts that mean little to nothing to me do not occupy my brain space or my time and I damn sure wouldn't be dialing a number, waiting on the phone, and then talking to people on radio/KZread show to talk about a topic that means "nothing" to me.

    Storm Bey It's probably because someone they look up to has been defending The Bell Curve, and now they feel obliged to defend it as well! I bet most of them haven't taken the time to dive into the literature picking TBC completely apart.... I don't blame them for that, it's several books and articles they have to read to get a thorough understanding of how much shitty pseudo-science and bad data the book is based on! But I do blame them for not being willing to critizise their idols and swallowing everything they say raw! I belong to the group of people who actually like some of Sam Harris's talks, debates and books - but that doesn't mean I agree with him on everything, and I find it very sad to see how many people are just taking his words as gospel! I suspect many of SH's fanboys is former religious people, who unconsciously has been primed to respect "authority" - and if he has played a significant role in changing their mind on religion, he is now the new "authority" - so when he featured the charlatan Charles Murray and completely failed his percieved role as a "skeptic inquirer", even ending up defending CM - then CM and TBC suddenly became part of the "Program" these young men feel the need to defend! And since the "gurus" most of them follow on KZread is morons who just has been good at gathering a large subscriber base by being early in making "entertaining" videos criticizing religion and eventually "feminism"/"SJW'ism" - they never really get challenged on these ideas! Half of those who hate Anita Sarkesian has never listened to a full talk/video by her - and the other half apparently think everything in this world is a black/white issue and that it's impossible that she can be wrong on some points, while actually making sense on others! I'm ready to bet that the caller in this video has watched a lot of Sam Harris, Sargon of Akkad, TJ Kirk and probably some Thunderf00t as well! He don't percieve himself as a racist, and he don't understand why others might call him one! Of course he's white, he's not neccesarily a gamer, but chances are high that he is.

    Cezariusz 88 He claimed the same back when they wrote TBC - and to be honest, his political motivated agenda was/is just a part of the problem with the book! I've read dozens of political motivated books, that don't resort to flawed cherry picked data, outdated tests etc., and still makes fair points - and even acknowledging that various valid arguments can be made against those points! So the problem isn't so much that the book is politically motivated, but the dishonesty they resorted to - and the way the book has been used in influencing politics afterwards!

That combined with an actual Left in an identity crisis and some very bad statements by Saarkeesian herself plus the rightwing meme machine (aka everybody is an SJW/selfloathing/postmodernistic neo-marxist if they don't call themselves "conservative" or "classical liberal"). The point of my comment, which remains uncontested, is this person clearly couldn't name any names and evoked Sarkeesian as some kind of boogeyman figure and when called out on it backpedaled because he didn't get the response he was looking for that a lot of (boys) online give, even those on the left, when that name is mentioned aka "ew, yeah she's horrible." And what the fuck does "regressive" mean in this context? Let me guess, you think she wants to ban or regulate videogames, too, huh? Have you watched her videos? Her position is simple: AAA industry should stop normalizing creepily ogling women. She's been clear that its okay for female characters to be sexy, but she wants women to be depicted as having sexual agency, and that, in the cases where they don't, that its rightly depicted as a travesty and not put in media for actual children. Because let me tell you, there's an awful lot of video games marketed towards children full of creepy voyeuristic imagery, as if Epstein worked as a game designer. And no, "races" are a purely sociological concept. I challenge you to find a serious geneticist who has found a way to quantify race. Even the word "species" has no solid, scientific definition. But sure, parrot the same pseudoscience peddlers like Murray that Epstein adored. And yes, he DID adore Evopsych, by the way. That's the kind of man who your ideology is *purposefully crafted* to cater to. The reason why we know that IQ is a fairly good measure of general intelligence is because of its high validity in life outcomes - IQ positively correlated with school grades, job performance, not crashing your car, not smoking, and life expectancy. Not only that, but in many categories it is the best measure we have. Sure, it's imperfect, but the idea that it "doesn't measure anything other than the IQ score" is rediculous.

  • @GlassesAndCoffeeMugs

    @GlassesAndCoffeeMugs

    Жыл бұрын

    You are correlating high IQ with better life outcomes but that's not the cause. The cause is people who were raised in better socioeconomic situations and were able to better navigate challenges in life, due to being better educated, having better nutrition, etc. If you were born in the slums of Algeria and never went to school and spent your life making tiles out of clay, you probably wouldn't have a very high IQ. But take that same person and raise them with proper K-12 education and send them off to college and feed them proper meals, and they will score much higher. Which completely blows a hole in the idea that IQ measures anything, other than how you did on that particular test.

  • @leno__jeno

    @leno__jeno

    Жыл бұрын

    @@GlassesAndCoffeeMugs You are mostly right! If you are raised in a better socioeconomic status that will probably result in a higher IQ (I believe the most recent data from twin studies show that IQ is 50% environmental, so it would make sense). However, adjusting for that does not explain all of IQ's great validity: most great life outcomes correlate more strongly with IQ than with parental socioeconomic status. This is most likely a case of "circular causation" - higher IQs cause better economic output, better economic output causes higher IQs. Either way - I wasn't commenting on what the proportion of genetic vs environmental factors causing IQ is, I was merely debunking the false claim that IQ does not measure anything. Even if IQ *were* 100% environmental, that does not mean that general intelligence does not exist or that IQ is a bad measure of it.

    Aren't IQ tests designed specifically to measure the intelligence of people across a large spectrum? Like, if you try to measure athleticism only with a running test, that's comparable with trying to measure intelligence with a math test. The IQ test isn't a math test, it's a widely scoped test designed to measure the broad spectrum of intelligence in a person (their quotient, if you will).

  • @gevri6620

    Yes, this is correct, Sam is wrong here. IQ tests measure general intelligence which's measurement methods are well known and have been developed over the course of a century. It's just factor analysis. You have a massive group of tests which all correlate with each other highly- one who does well on one will very likely do well on another. This is just basic CHC theory.

One individual disproves a trend now? When a tall muscular woman tells you that men on average are taller and have more muscle mass than women, she isn't disproving her statement either. I don't know much about IQ-tests, maybe they don't perfectly predict how intelligent a person is. But implying they have nothing to do with intelligence and just test for who is good at IQ-tests is reaching far.

    IQ of 60 may indeed point to a problem with the *individual* . You know why? Because 100 is always the average for that group of people by definition of the IQ test, and 40% lower is a giant difference compared to their peers! But when you try to analyze subtle differences of *average* IQ between different *groups* , it loses all meaning. Unless you're trying to show that IQ tests must be tailored for smaller groups.

    I was the president of our regional AFLCIO and was flown to DC for the ‘Populism 2015’ conference and in that diverse group of organizations there seemed to be a lot of concern about the rising popularity of these old ideas getting mainstream attention again, whereas I was oblivious to this until then and remained skeptical that it was a problem worth worrying about. As you said near the end of the show you’re starting to get more calls about this and now in 2019 I’m hearing the “intellectuals” such as Sam Harris, Jordan Peterson, and many other guests on Joe Rogan that are starting to have very nuanced and highly caveat laden utterances concurring with the viewpoints. I think Sam Harris tries to be very responsible in the approach but all a person that is obsessed with white supremacy has to do is misunderstand a word or two in a whole paragraph and they feel vindicated by “science” and call up your show like today. I still am not sure how mainstream or popular the ideas but I’m definitely hearing more of it. *written from an iPhone so please forgive grammar and punctuation

    So... i'm a german who follows US-politics as well (i do hope you excuse my bad grammar). I started watching this channel to not get caught in filterbubbles. Until now i was fine with some of the arguments being made in some videos. But actually this video is weird to me. The dude who called didn't made any kind of argument towards white supremacy. I my opinion he was making an argument on how racism is not systemic, but rather on how it also is a product of blacks and hispanics having lower iqs. Higher IQs are being said to be in high correlation with the high paying jobs in science and finances. Thats why jews and east-asians score better on SATs, do better in our school system and also earn more than whites. Our capitalist societies (until now) pay people higher (in proportion) that can do complex tasks better, because it has a higher impact on the outcome. (example: best Software-engineer vs normal engineer can multiply the outcome by 50x. But if u take the best construction worker instead of the mediocre construction worker it might multiply with 3-4 at max). Science and finances pay you more and high IQ correlates with high paying jobs in it. You can make an argument towards the development of IQ and how much of it is genetically influenced and how much of it culturally influenced. Biologists and psychologists are not sure about it, but estimate it at a range of 40- 80 % biologically. Most of them are tending towards 60-70%. Sure: IQ is only one of many facettes of human intelligence and SHOULDNT be used as an indicator of human worth (human life is absolute in its worth - 1 cant be worth more than 1 other), but it is an indicator on why money and knowledge are spread the way they are. Also: It does not mean that you should not support minorities - but maybe you shouldnt do affirmative action ;) Don't think you should kick someone like this out of your show. It discredites your own show, if you don't allow an exchange of argumentation.

    fusion772 My Thesis: No self reflection is a huge problem. Social Darwinism ideas 💡 of the survival of the fittest, which was a flaw because it’s survival of the most adaptable. The ones who genes are able to survive the best. Blue eyes is actually a mutation and doesn’t absorb all the light spectrum as brown eyes 👁. Hair is another topic, so is skin color. Lastly your genes are your genes, meaning if I become a masters degree holder at 25, and have a child, then get my PHD and have another child. The second child isn’t smarter because, all of a sudden I became smarter. Google Lamarckian inheritance. A lot more things are social rather than involving DNA 🧬. A person who technically have the most active genes is best suited for adaptation. People who have mutated genes are not. Social Darwinism philosophy spread to economics and Adam Smith characterized Laissez-faire economics and people in an advantageous position went bonkers for it. The libertarian doctrine is perhaps at some level worst than communism because it renders government useless theoretically, thank God it was never applied fully. Libertarian Fascism is what most Americans engage in to acquire wealth. It is a type of Libertarianism that denies Libertarian values to the rest of humanity. I remember the Libertarian Trump that said he wouldn’t concede the election. Backed by Cigarette 🚬 Companies, Gun Manufacturers, Dirty Coal Industry, Koch Industries, and etc the fascist corporate tentacles 🦑is stripping the world ‘s Libertarian rights. Bourgeois Democracy is what those who acquire that wealth engage in to suppress the vote 🗳 and make sure social programs like the New Deal which never benefited Blacks and almost got FDR taken out in a coup, will never get implemented again. It has been a gradual erosion of rights and appointing fascist judges and government positions to suppress the proletariat votes. The proletariat is us who want change and understand that Affirmative Action was White and the Irish Became White by making blacks characterized as vagrants and contagions of wealth. To be a contagion 😷 of wealth creates a impression you don’t deserve wealth and what little you have should be taken away from you. The philosophy of making the poor poorer. They hate a successful Denmark Vessey style people uprising. They hate a smart Frederick Douglass type brother. They hate blacks that thinks collectively, instead individually. We have so much symmetry with poor whites, but since Bacons Rebellion, it has not been in the rich interest to show whites, you have more in common. It is sad that blacks have low confidence. It’s sad that blacks hate themselves or all the negative stereotypes and history that characterizes them as only slaves and not humans who fought to be there best. The self hate is so real and deep that blacks join conservative groups to be stroked intellectually for being smart. The bailout king Obama is a corporate fascist sellout that hurt many black families. But anyone could tell, with his tip toe approach to calling out the rich, who mostly happens to be whites. The stereotype of low IQ, low competency, lazy, and poor morality makes us the easiest targets of there eugenics agendas. Blue Dog Dems are the worst Libertarian Fascist. They give you false hope and keep the status quo. We are waking up and intellectually will be self sufficient people.
