Sam the Sham and the Pharoahs were one of the really fun bands from the mid-60's. ("Wooly Bully", "Little Red Riding Hood", etc.). Great to see him here with the wonderful Texas Tornados! RIP, Doug Sahm, Freddie Fender, and Oscar Tellez.

This is an amazing video. Wooly Bully was a very popular song in my hometown. Sam & the Pharaohs were on television all the time for about a year. Classy guy!

Sam's acceptance speech about responsibility is a truly great speech! From his heart, and spoken with profound truth and a reverance towards God. Marvelous! A fine American; humble gentleman, and a shining example for everyone!

Domingo, you are a real icon , the best song of the 60's. My mom is 91, she use to dance to wooly bully... thanks!

jonny chingas He’s listed as being of Mexican descent in Wikipedia, he lived in Panama for several years (I assume he spoke with people there), and he didn’t correct Paul when he called him Mexican 2 times. Excuse my assumption, but a link would be nice.

Not hard to tell that songs like Wooly Bully and 96 Tears are of Mexican origin. Definitely a Conjunta beat.

Wikipedia gives his heritage as Mexican-American Basques Apache.

@@thomasfoss9963 I have "Sky Dog", the boxed anthology with pretty much everything Duanne ever did; have both original anthologies too. I don't see anything together with Sam...too bad. Duanne played many uncredited sessions with literally everyone under the sun, so I guess it's possible that I can't find it...

Recorded live and aired in 1992. “Wooly Bully” by Sam the Sham with the Texas Tornadoes was one for the ages. However, the second half of the song was interrupted by Paul Rodriguez running his fat stupid mouth, followed by a series of bullshit commercials and announcements. A rare concert performance was trashed up to a fare-thee-well by the network coverage. I think it sucked great big effing great big hairy elephant trunks. This was a rare once in a lifetime performance and the only blessed ones were the audience in person, and not the viewers in television land.
