Strong voice yes, but also a good mic with some gain behind it. You can make a mic very sensitive to sound with gain.

You can work for the same voice as long as you give it time

Put your headphones on, close your eyes, and I guarantee you will feel goosebumps, and maybe even cry a little! This guy's voice is god's gift to soul music! I can relate to his lyrics, maybe that's why it really hits me hard, and gets me a little emotional. And I don't care what any one says, I'm comfortable enough to admit my emotional and sensitive side as a man.

Sam is my help in whatever, whenever I feel bad, he will always be there to warm me up with his beautiful voice

I just wanted to say thank you Sam Smith... Thank you for making me feel something, anything... I miss my grandfather so much and this song just screams what my heart is too broken to say. He was in so much pain, I wanted to help him with all my soul but for the life of me, there was nothing to do but let him go. In the end he just layed there so numb, so gone, just there. So I just layed next to him and watched him as he faded away into the abyss. It's been hard letting go of tears that has been built up since but you have made me able to do just that. You helped me really let it go.. Thank you for putting your soul and heart into everything you do.

I love the mood shift within this song. From the almost "musical" style of the beginning, to the swing of a Sinatra-esque... To the big bold bridge... I LOVE IT! Plus this song truly shows his range... Most of his songs are mid range/falsetto... But I like his lower register too. This song is brilliant.

I love him. he can hit all of those falsettos notes with ease and still do it live. A ton of artists have to fake it when doing it live compared to the recorded version, but he can always do it and he put so much emotion behind the words every time. He is truly inspirational.

This song hits home for me on many different levels. My 3 and a half year old son is dying from a rare form of Brain tumor, Diffuse Insintric Pontine Glioma or DIPG for short. He doesn't have much time left and this song speaks to me in my time of need. Music I believe will be my savior in this time of need and God has giving me many signs of strength but by far this is the biggest yet. Thank you Sam Smith for sharing a song with so much meaning. Artists are tending to make music that sells not made as art and you sir are an artist with an amazing gift. This song means the world to me and I'm going to play it at his funeral if possible.

From 03:00 to 03:36, I listen to this song for that.

There have been mediocre singers and artists in mainstream music for way too long. Thank god Sam Smith came around with this banging voice and set the bar crazy high in terms of singing that all artists should aspire to. Sam Smith is exactly what the industry needed and even craved, bravo!!

I met this guy at work and we both fell in love with each other. I seriously thought I had finally found love and happiness but soon enough, it all came to an end. He was actually dating another girl. Now its just complicated because he says still has feelings for me. We have drifted apart since then but I miss him until now. This lyrics resonate so strongly. This song is so beautifully simple and honest and pure in its expression of love and longing. It gets to me every time and makes me cry. I can't help but think of my late partner, G., who passed 11 years ago. When he died, I wanted to die as well. I wanted to lay down by his side forever. This song renews my gratitude for having had a love like his in my life, and it re-awakens my awareness of how much I miss him. I love you, G.

I remember the feelings that got stirred up within me when I first listened to this song and I still get the same feeling every single time I listen to it. This always remind me of the painful unrequited love I experienced years ago. Listening to this song makes it look like it was just yesterday when my heart was irreparably broken.

First off, I want to mention something....Sam Smith is amazing at singing, and would people stop being so cheeky and being depressing saying do you see gay men singing? You listen to his music because you like him for who he is not because of what other idiots say, if not then don't say anything and x out, you know where the button is! I find he is amazing, and I don't care if he is gay, he is bloody amazing at singing, better than another crap singer than Kayne West! Leave him alone, he sings for what he believes in and what he wants to sing, so leave Sam alone! Jesus! People have their own opinions and I understand that, but when you next put a mean or stupid comment about how gay people arn't mean't to be, think if you were in Sam's shoes or POV and having to read these stupid depressing comments are his sexuality!! Don't care if he is gay! :) Love you Sam!

Well said, I'm 50 and he makes me go all goosy, got a bisexual daughter and so very proud of her. Wish ppl would just stop being so justmental on others and their lives. Least he can sing and very good at it WTG Sam Smith,

Debbie Chudleigh I know, he is amazing and I am sure, your daughter is a lovely girl. I just hate it how people are so judgemental towards gay or bisexual people :( Sam Smith can actually sing unlike other celebrities that can't even sing! :)

I don't think I've ever fallen in love with someone's voice before. That is, until I listened to Sam Smith.

I use to think of this as a romantic song. I had a miscarriage about a month ago and my son came to me in a dream and told me “mom don’t cry” so when I hear this song it hits different. I try not to cry but it’s hard.

Oh my god …. I literally closed my eyes and listened to this after my miscarriage and I never cried more .. I loved this song before … but now ..

And I cry every single time I listen to this song.... I haven't been touched by a song often like I have been touched by this one! Thank you Sam for sharing your amazing voice and your wonderfull music with us!

I first saw and heard Sam Smith on SNL... now I am almost obsessed with his voice!! Can't get enough of Sam Smith!

Sam Smith is not radio materiel. The radio doesn't deserve him- he sings with an amazing passion and real soul. Every word he sings is one hundred times better than all that autotuned crap on the radio will ever be. He is truly inspiring.
