Sam Smith’s background vocalists are amazing!!!

We should congratulate a top contemporary artist like Sam Smith for keeping the memory of George alive by covering his songs - and by bringing new audiences to George's timeless music. The last thing we should be doing is attempting to compare their voices. Thank you Sam for honouring GM, and please keep reminding audiences about GM and how brilliant his music is. For what its worth, I really enjoyed your cover!!

I'm a fan of both although I grew up with George Michael's career and music...and I can tell you I loved this tribute...like it was expected - Sam knows how to do this properly - and he owns these songs [Faith and Father Figure] here...he did them his own way not trying to copycat GM...BRAVO!...

I really appreciate this heartfelt tribute to George Michael. There is no point in comparing the two artists. No one will ever compare to George Michael. What matters is that Sam Smith honored George Michael and his music with a lovely medley. Sam greatly admired George and George respected Sam. It was a fitting hommage which paid respect to a great artist and is another example of celebrating George Michael's music and keeping his songs and memory alive. As George himself sang in 'An Easier Affair', "See, I don't have the time for the haters". Thank you Sam. Nothing but LOVE

That was a great and smooth transition from Father Figure to Faith and back again. The tribute was tastefully done by one of today's top crooners, Mr. Sam Smith.

George is a legend...no one can surpass his tone..Oh how sad he is gone 😞

I love a good FM cover but they make me cry so hard. Especially if I can feel the love behind them like I do here.

It's a COVER people. Even Mozart composed his pieces to allow improvisation which is true artistry. This gentleman has a beautiful voice

Even though I love George Michael, My Sammy did a GREAT job and I LOVE HIM! These are called covers for a reason so everyone saying George Michael did it better, OF COURSE HE DID, that's why it's a cover for a reason. Just enjoy the fact someone liked and looked up to him enough to pick him to do a cover on and embrace it!

Seen George twice London earls Court 35 live tour and Manchester symphomonica tour he was incredible, well done Sam for honoring George.

It is wonderful to see Sam so happy and confident. You can tell he knows he looks great. His voice is stronger than ever! We love you Sam!

I came here for Father Figure and then he took us to church and it was honestly the best surprise. Wow.

It makes me love Sam Smith ten times more to know that he likes George Michael. I think it's okay to enjoy and celebrate an artist, you know, get into it, even if you aren't exactly on the same level.

I just don’t understand why people have to compare all this artist. Why can’t we just appreciate and enjoy the talent they unselfishly shared? Why cant we just feel lucky and grateful that in our lifetime we get to see and listen all this amazing artist. I feel so sad reading all this comments comparing them to the original and what not. This artist deserves to be appreciated, applause and thankful and rewarded whether original or cover. I’m pretty sure they put and give all their best and effort to entertain us. Writing music lyrics and line them up is no easy task. For them to share us their talents and parts of their experience in life is wether sad or happy is a gift that we should embrace and appreciate not comparing and criticize them if who is who! That’s not nice at all. We may not hear any of them saying ouch that hurts when they read how that this artist sing better than the original or whatever. Let’s just appreciate and enjoy the talents and show they give for us and no comparing comments. All we have to say in the comments are kind words and praise words. No need to comments back, I’m not asking anyone to reply on this message. Just read and move on. Thank you......

This is a lovely cover, however, I feel like Sam in a studio without an audience would have been epic. That's one of the best things about the Live Lounge performances.

Good song performance from a great singer. But George sang this 100 times better. He had a voice of an angel. All emotions that George was bringing are lost. Still great that Sam Smith performed George's song 👌.

Sam Smith has such a unique tone that no-one can replicate. He brought a new style of singing a classic George Michael song.

I appreciate that he did this cover, but the sensuality and mystique that GM's version had was lost on this one. Makes me miss GM even more than ever.

I struggled trying to listen fairly and look for a constructive response. I saw comments here that were responded to with anger because someone didn’t like this cover. Truthfully I did not love this and your comment said it perfectly. I appreciate Sam’s beautiful voice but he seemed to be running out of breath at times (which is ok, it was live) but what I missed was the sensuality and longing the lyrics were written about. I guess he just did his own take but that take was lost in translation on me. It wasn’t about who sang it with a better voice - both singers are equally talented but different. It was the absence of real longing and desire that was hard for me listening to this. I do admire his effort to honor George all the same and you know, it wasn’t horrible to listen to anyway.

He's good but George was amazing. One of the best voices of all time.

There are artists whose music cannot be replicated, even by phenomenal vocalists like Sam Smith. Covers are rarely ever better than the original. Peruse through videos of George and find the myriad of "Father Figure" performances and renditions and you'll understand 👍
