I actually got really sad when he said "I'm not that optimistic to prepare a speech..." Sam Elliott deserves the Oscar!

Way out west there was this fella... fella I wanna tell ya about. Fella by the name of Jeff Lebowski. At least that was the handle his loving parents gave him, but he never had much use for it himself. Mr. Lebowski, he called himself "The Dude". Now, "Dude" - that's a name no one would self-apply where I come from. But then there was a lot about the Dude that didn't make a whole lot of sense. And a lot about where he lived, likewise. But then again, maybe that's why I found the place so darned interestin'. They call Los Angeles the "City Of Angels." I didn't find it to be that, exactly. But I'll allow there are some nice folks there. 'Course I can't say I've seen London, and I ain't never been to France. And I ain't never seen no queen in her damned undies, so the feller says. But I'll tell you what - after seeing Los Angeles, and this here story I'm about to unfold, well, I guess I seen somethin' every bit as stupefyin' as you'd see in any of them other places. And in English, too. So I can die with a smile on my face, without feelin' like the good Lord gypped me. Now this here story I'm about to unfold took place back in the early '90s - just about the time of our conflict with Sad'm and the I-raqis. I only mention it because sometimes there's a man... I won't say a hero, 'cause, what's a hero? But sometimes, there's a man. And I'm talkin' about the Dude here. Sometimes, there's a man, well, he's the man for his time and place. He fits right in there. And that's the Dude, in Los Angeles. And even if he's a lazy man - and the Dude was most certainly that. Quite possibly the laziest in Los Angeles County, which would place him high in the runnin' for laziest worldwide. But sometimes there's a man, sometimes, there's a man. Aw. I lost my train of thought here. But... aw, hell. I've done introduced him enough.

He just sounds so humble and grounded. Refined. He’s just a warm guy with good vibes.

Sam Elliot’s great distinctive voice was also used as the Narrator for “The Big Lebowski”, taking about The Dude, in addition to starring as The Stranger in the same movie (wearing a Cowboy Hat, sitting in the Bowling Alley).

Made me think of a shirt a friend of mine used to wear a long time ago that had a picture of a tiger on it. It said big cats are dangerous but a little pu%$y never hurt anyone.

Had the pleasure of working with Sam on a tv show. We said maybe 20 words to each other over a couple seasons. Just the way production is but also trying to be cool. When he would walk by me after the show he would put his hand on my arm or my shoulder exactly how you would imagine he would. I felt appreciated and inspired to be a better Dude. Now I’m tearing up thinking about it. What a beautiful sweet sweet man. God bless Sam Elliott.

Sam Elliot is an absolute gem. The nomination is well deserved and long overdue. He’s had the most amazing acting career. This interview makes me miss David Letterman. Jimmy does a great job gushing abt Sam Elliot’s performance in A Star Is Born but clearly has no appreciation of who this legendary actor is and his amazing body of work.

I've always like Sam Elliot as an actor, every since first seeing him in Mask. Outside of his acting, he personally seems very modest and genuine, and deserves every success.

He is one of the few men in Hollywood that has aged well. So handsome and that voice

When ever I'm watching a movie, and Sam Elliot comes in for a scene, my attention level goes way up. I could watch his scenes from Road House over and over, and never get bored. I can't imagine how he was never nominated before.

Jimmy, brother, you totally could have gotten a lot more from that interview opportunity. Sam Elliott is an international treasure.

I'm honestly aghast that this is his first nom.. it's.. criminal. He should have a closet full of them by now.

I have loved this guy since I was like 8, his voice has always given me the chills. He could say anything...... He seems to be such an authentic, nice, mellow man & a hunka hunka to boot at any age ❤

that man is the only reason i watched Ghost Rider more than once. Nicholas Cage was too old and weird for it. (warning: mirror scene is nightmare fuel)

Thank you Bradley Cooper for finally giving Sam Elliott his much deserved, long overdue, place in the sun. I think Sam Elliott is one of Hollywood's most under- appreciated treasures.

Been a fan for years hate to admit we’re about same age he is extremely talented and deserves the recognition finally.

When they announced his name I jumped and cried in joy. Loved him in ASIB!

When his and Bradley Cooper's character got into the fight it broke my heart! Such great acting.

Sam Elliot is one of the most talented actors ever. He just has "IT". That voice is like a hot knife cutting through butter. I've watched every movie he's been in, and he's always given a stellar performance. And he's only one of a few celeb crushes I have. He's a real man.

I love Sam Elliot one of the great men of our time along with Wyatt Earp, and Cheyenne. We need real life version of these characters

If you haven't seen Sam in "The Hero" find a way to see it. Brilliant film, brilliant Sam

It's so funny that Bradley Cooper based his voice on Sam Elliot. I never saw the preview just what I heard about it, so I watched it and heard Bradley's voice and said he sounds like Sam Elliot...they should have casted Sam Elliot as his dad! Sure enough 5 minutes after here comes Sam Elliot! Amazing!

This is crazy. He is sitting slanted the whole time with his head too. But he looks so cool. And when he tells the story everyone is intently listening. Like he has such a way with words.

What a voice and character. Amazing.

He's married to the girl that played Dustin Hoffman's girlfriend in The Graduate.

Awesome actor. There are still many westerns that have not been done...(that I'm aware of) a couple of good Zane Gray novels that only Sam Elliot could fill if the script were to be done to fit him, even at his age. Kudos to you, Mr. Elliott..........you're not done yet. Not by any means. Great film.

His voice though.

"Coors. The Banquet beer." "Guts.Glory. Ram." I drink Coors Original and drive a Ram pickup because Sam Elliot's voice told me to.

I’ve been a fan of Sam Elliott since I first saw him in the TV movie The Shadow Riders (1982). He’s one of the most underrated actors ever and deserves an Oscar. His emotion in “the truck scene” in A Star is Born sealed it for me.
