Indeed, Abbath is a poor attempt to be Peter, not so witty, no so intelligent. He just rides the contrast that he used to be a serious black metal figure and now he is ALL FUNNY AND OMG SO IRONIC. It was fun at first, but with this Abbath solo, it's just so uninteresting and boring, just like the music.

Hellvomit I think we saw exactly his main inspiration as far as his persona..and it's a weird one..David Lee Roth. If you took someone like Nergal and spliced in David Lee Roth you end up with this crazy character Abbath. Just my take...I do not see really much similarity to Peter Steele..but I respect your opinion.

There is possibly a slight resemblance in the the fact they are both such big dudes with really long black hair but Abbath is certainly no clone of anyone and is 100% his own man! A man verging on the nuttier side of Heavy Metal stardom for sure but quite an entertaining dude even if you don't happen to be such a fan of some of his current musical endeavors

Abbath never fails to make me laugh. This was a great interview.

That was the best interview ever. Abbath is one of the forefathers of Black Metal. Super fucking awesome how he can poke fun at the genre he respects and puts tons of effort to perfect.

Now I understand why the title is simply not "Sam Dunn interviews Abbath", but "Sam Dunn TRIES to interview Abbath"... A world of difference indeed!

Best thing i learned was: you can go and do a video! even with a VRC cam and a Halloween costume! Immortal is the only band that would get a "Good" thing from that... the others just gets shunned! Emperor's first video was a bit lame but 100 better than winter moon! and yet it is like it was not enough! on the Emperor note... did he do a Deal with the Devil? that last album, "the demise by fire" was the last one and the best one... almost like some one else made it... the deal was: "this will be your last album!" if that was said by them, i would believe it! Black Metal people are probably the most free spirited people because of Abbath's way of taking things... if not for him, it would be been a lot Douchy, since every one would try to top off the next guy... after burning every churches... then what, hospitals? ;P when your a bad ass, you can sing Ranma1/2's first season's theme song out loud and still be a bad ass!

I've always liked Abbath. He strikes me as an intelligent, positive, funny, down to earth person, a great musician and an artist. I really like the contrast between his humor including funny videos and the faces he makes, and the deep serious music in Immortal and other projects. Those songs and riffs came from the soul.

Finally saw this legend live yesterday. No one quit like him out there. So much fun

I fucking love abbath because he makes some of the best black metal but he is someone who knows it is a show and not to be taken too seriously. From the very first time I was introduced to black metal I was struck by the pure vaudevillian aspect to the whole thing. The first time Groucho Marx saw Alice cooper live he was quoted as calling it "vaudeville ". Enjoy the show but remember real life is waiting outside the door. It feels good to leave this boring reality for a time but it isn't possible to make it full time. Abbath understands that. Great interview Banger!!!!

Divine Atheist He was also in an interview about when black metal Bands and Black metal Fans in the late and mid 90's were going BERSERK burning down local Catholic churches and beating the shit out Christian radicals. And He said he did not participate in those bizarre events because it was pointless. Because in the end The Norwegian gov't is just gonna bring it back up with their Tax dollars. So it's ok to say that Abbath is the laid back and chill dude who doesn't give a rat's ass of what he does for fun. Kinda like if Gaahl or Dead were to have a comedic side to them.

He's not what the try hards idolize, the 16 year old kids who took themselves too seriously (and then grew the fuck up and pissed off those try hards).

Genuinely brings happiness to see Abbath in interviews. Love Immortal's tunes, but Abbath in himself is just a legend at this point in the Metal community. Much respect for this man. This is how musicians should be! Relaxed and having a good sense of humor.

It is so reminiscent of Malcolm Young (actually, ALL of the Youngs) having the swing, the rhythm, the groove, whatever you want to call it. And Lemmy too for that matter. Despite being known for his Black metal, he transcends musical genres and one day will ascend to the throne as a metal God. He'll be recognised as a torch bearer like Ozzy, Lemme or Rob Halford.
