Adds are the real dystopian future, it’s privacy invasion via data capture to sell to the highest bidder. It’s easy to say ‘I won’t sell adds.’ But will you sell my data to people who would inevitably use that information to sell adds?

Google Ads are more relevant to my search than the actual results. Just saying. Also Search is a portal to legit sources of information where I can assess where I'm getting that detail and maybe even how that detail was discovered (i.e., ncbi studies). With LLMs you are trusting the summary of a bot (may be wrong in its interpretations of conclusions made) and trusting the underlying details, which can definitely be wrong and conclusions can be biased or not based in facts. Its like an interpretation of and interpretation. It may be successful but it will compound mental laziness and misinformation.

I think legacy internet might just be replaced by A.I. why come to an internet when you can generate everything you want via A.I, specially on the internet where most of the videos and even comments would be A.i generated in the first place or bots? Vids, music, movies etc.. will could all be created with A.I tools.

Which leads to a bigger topic of reality. If we can each craft our own reality with AI that perfectly satisfies our needs/desires, why engage in the reality we're in now? Why engage with other humans at all? And could we even tell if they're humans or AI? It's very "Ready Player One"-esque but I worry that could be the distant future.

@@malindrome9055 Initialisms (not acronyms) can be written with or without periods, it's just based on preference. Think of "US" vs "U.S."--both are correct.

I don't think any model without ads would sustain as a profitable business model. When you watch the whole interview he says, if you make a start-up be a nonprofit org, he would highly recommend not to start because it won't sustain. How does he think an ad-free search engine works for a business model? Majority, more than 90% wouldn't pay for ad-free search engine

I think they might need to monetize the implementations of free models with ads, like ChatGPT 3.5, but the paid models could remain ad-free. Spotify does this and it seems to have worked quite well for them (236 million paying subscribers which is about 40% of their total users).

Let's be honest, Googles search results have gotten noticeably worse the last few years.

This is an incredibly important subject here. Sam is struggling to answer this question. The elephant in the room is Microsoft, still. The title of this video should be Microsoft/OpenAI vs Google Search/LLMs. I think OpenAI made a huge leap forward, but they aren’t as far ahead as everyone thinks they are.

It has nothing to do with it. Microsoft has been clear; they are investing in and using OpenAI's products, but they have no power in OpenAI and let them make their own decisions

futuristic designs are mostly terrible they add unwanted clutter to ui making it less user friendly and doesn't have that familiar feeling. the ui chatgpt uses currently is simple and does the job well.

@@jeetm9603 I agree with both of you, if done improperly it can be really terrible but if done properly, it could really boost the user experience. I think the iOS app is really solid but the browser version could be snappier and it would be nice to have a desktop app. I was thinking of something that could just live in the toolbar at the top of the screen on macOS (next to control center, battery, etc.) so you can quickly ask it questions no matter what you're doing.
