A huge thank you to Inappropriate Reefer for lending me the yasha goby footage. And to 88rotors for the YWG footage 😁👍

    The only time I have trouble with hawks eating shrimp is if I add the shrimp after the hawk. If the shrimp are established already the hawks usually leave them alone. If the hawks are added first and haven't been in a tank with shrimp, I've noticed they are a lot more likely to attack the shrimp almost immediately. Specifically the flame hawks. I haven't tested as much with the long nose but I haven't ever seen one go after larger shrimp. They will still go after small shrimp though.

    I had a hawkfish for about 5 weeks and he rarely came out of his hiding spot! My bubby bought him for my birthday s0 he bough ta fullsize one which P would have never done. Do you think it could be because he was captured at an older age. He was literally scared of 2 small clowns and a small damsel. He rarely came out to eat even. about 10 days ago I lost 3 fish including him. I dont know if he was sick and brought something to the tank. He never had good coloration and bottom half of body didint have much color. The crazy thing was is 10 days later and I still have a remaining clown that I have been trying to catch and quaratine but she is fine, healthy appetite even. One of the fish had microscopic dots on him, though barely visible even with a microscope. I also started dosing nopox and for weeks I used full dosage and maybe a little more one or two times so maybe the buildup of it. It shouldn't take weeks at full dosage I dont think and I also read these hawks. need a highly oxygenated tank so maybe that was the problem! Next time I try this dish I will get a baby and maybe xtra wavemaker for surface agitation because I knw they can be cool fish! I seen one at a pet store that wasnt fearful at all, and loved the googly eyes. We named ours googles! haha

He ended up dying though so might have bought him and he was sick. had hime for about 5 or 6 weeks. nevr had good coloration, not much color on bottom half of body! I read they need a highly oxygenated tank so maybe that was it because I started dosing nopox about 10 days before he died.

    @ReefDork got a question. Fresh water aquarium owner , I want to get into reef tanks. Problem is I live in apartment building and while the floor supports 5+ tones can't have more then 500 Kg /m2. I was thinking of getting 120x60x60 cm (around 800 kg with sand/rock/equipment). Surface area is important so I am considering getting same tank or even a bit bigger but with a depth of only 40 or 45 cm . What is your opinion ? Your vids are great, i learned allot.

  • @ReefDork

    @ReefDork

    5 жыл бұрын

    By depth, do you mean height or front to back? I'd never compromise front to back - it makes setting out your rockscape much easier and looks cooler. Lower height makes it harder to get enough flow for SPS corals cos the sand bed will blow around.

  • @mihaia6026

    @@ReefDork Sorry for my error, I meant height not width. Thanks for the input. Will try to find a workable solution. In this situation what would be a good tank format in your opinion ? I m thinking 60x60x45 or 120x65x45. I wanted to buy the Peninsula 500 , like you have I think. I like the 3 viewing angle format but damn glass and water are heavy :S

  • @ReefDork

    @ReefDork

    5 жыл бұрын

    Of those, I'd choose 65 front to back. Peninsula 500 is a good option. The best thing to do is find tanks you like in shops (or forums) and see what you like most.

    Hmm, Blennies ... I can think of some I'd be VERY wary of. Plagiotremus tapeinosoma and Aspidontus taeniatus spring to mind as species to avoid, because they feed by biting chunks out of your other fish. Likewise, Meiacanthus grammistes might look pretty, but if it bites you, it injects a medically significant venom.
