The instrument is a hurdy gurdy. Patty Gurdy is a hurdy gurdy musician that is on KZread. From what I saw in the comments of the original video, the non-English parts of the song are the original Norse Lyrics

Correct. It was the original Old Norse recited from the original poem in Egil's Saga. If you ever want to read about an interesting historical person, look no further than that book.
I was going to suggest Saltatio Mortis’ cover of Hypa Hypa by Electric Callboy.. but then I realised you’ve never reacted to Electric Callboy!! Holy crap! You have to do the original before the cover.

there definitely needs to be a dive into electric callboy soon
Alea (the singer) is a passionated LAARP Fan, so he loves his costumes and the instrument is a hurdy Gurdy or in german a "Drehleier"
Þat Mælti Mín Móðir is the original name, still means my mother told me, and it is an icelandic epic poem by Erik something (can't remember the last name) colm macguinness makes a very good rendition of how it might have sounded originally. It is sung on old norse language and can be categorized as a Folk Song

Close. It's actually Egill Skallagrímsson.
I am pretty sure you reacted to their version of The Dragonborn Comes?! Anyway, the language is old icelandic and learning it took the vocalist a couple of weeks intensive studying. Cheers from Germany 🤘

Icelandic is so beautiful to listen to. Much respect from a Dane
If you liked this video, you really should give "Pray to the hunter" by Saltatio mortis a go. That's so far the summit of epicness. (And also a really good song.)

Then Dragonbon ....
Saltatio Mortis is a German medieval metal group. I like their cover of My Mother Told Me but I prefer voiceplay's version. By the way you should do a reaction to Geoff's latest song Sound of Silence. It is wonderfull.
The handcranked instrument looked like a hurdy-gurdy.

The band is excellent. Aléa also appears on Feuerschwanz’s cover of “warriors of the world united”
Much Love from Germany 🇩🇪 ... you ponounce the name: SAL - TA - TIO MOR - TES 😘 They released a lot of amazing & different Covers & also Originals! For sure, "The Dragonborn comes" by feat. Lara Loft is a Masterpiece! I know the Band & Lara personly and all are amazing musicians 🥰 Take all care 🖤🤘🖤
Came from Falling in Reverse Reactions and found this. Saltatio Mortis is one of my fav. Bands.
4:42 That is a hurdy-gurdy. No one alive today has ever heared the original version of this song btw because the song is an old Norse song from the ninth century and therefore 1200 years old. Saltatio Mortis is a german Medieval Metal band btw. The name (and pronounciation) is latin in origin. They have lots of great songs, also sometimes collaborating with other bands like Feuerschwanz or Electric Callboy. My personal favourite is the song Prey to the Hunter.

my favorite of them is "Walpurgisnacht"...
the instrument is a "hurdy gurdy", in german "Dreh-Leier" (word for word translation back to english: "Turn-Lyra"), which explains its family: Leier (english: Lyre).
the instrument you hear is a backpipe but the one shown with the hand crank is a hurdy gurdy that is more in the background.
Medieval Metal is very common in Germany
Another good Songs from them are "pray to the hunter" and the dragonborn comes. They also a very good life band.
I love this band, you should check out more by them.^^ I recommend "Pray to the Hunter", or Loki.
Saltatio Mortis is a German medieval folk metal band. XD Strange mix but I love it. They used the original lyrics which are not in German, so they and most listeners most likely don't understand them either. ;)
Great version, partly original, but with a metal twist. 🔥 🔥 🤘😆🤘
Loved this
You REALLY need to react to "Vallhalelujia" by Nanowar of Steel
I'm a Dane and to me it sound Islandic.. I recognised a lot of the words. The spoken islandic language is a bit tricky but the written words a very easy
Like others stated check out Pray to the Hunter. My favorite folk metal band is Eluveitie. Tons of great music. Rebirth is probably their most popular song. However my favorite are probably The Slumber and Epona.
it's a hurdy gurdy
So glad you liked the song!! You should also do The Dragonborne Comes!!
Hurdy Gurdy
You might also like them in a feature with "Feuerschwanz : Warriors of the world "and by the way discover MELISSA BONNY ( falling in love is not an option, I was first)

That instrument with the wheel is called a "hurdy hurdy".
@Trutti94

hurdy-gurdy, but yes
Fun fact: some of them used old Norse instruments to better replicate the song but of course they also used modern day instruments to make it into a heavy metal song
Excellent. The non-English would be the original Scandinavian language (Norwegian or such).

The original poem is written in Old Norse, Alea is singing in Icelandic because that is the language closest to the Old Norse.
4:40 hurdygurdy
They mostly sing in German.
It's hurry gurdy :)
How is it possible to react to the same band a year before this video and still do not know this band?!.
I think it's a hurdy gurdy
Not my cup of tea. But I can appreciate the originality and a new twist to the song.
Meh.
That Instrument that you are askimg fot at 06:33 is a Hurdy-Gurdy. In Germany we call it "Drehleier".
