Lyrics: My Mother Told Me
[Intro]
My mother told me
Someday I would buy
A galley with good oars
Sail to distant shores
Sail to distant shores
[Verse 1]
Þat mælti mín móðir
At mér skyldi kaupa
Fley ok fagrar árar
Fara á brott með víkingum
Standa upp í stafni
Stýra dýrum knerri
Halda svá til hafnar
Hǫggva mann ok annan
Hǫggva mann ok annan
[Chorus]
My mother told me
Someday I would buy
A galley with good oars
Sail to distant shores
My mother told me
Someday I would buy
A galley with good oars
Sail to distant shores
I sail to distant shores
[Verse 2]
Þél höggr stórt fyr stáli
Stafnkvígs á veg jafnan
Út með éla meitli
Andærr jötunn vandar
En svalbúinn selju
Sverfr eirar vanr þeiri
Gestils ölpt með gustum
Gandr of stál fyr brandi
Gandr of stál fyr brandi
[Chorus]
My mother told me
Someday I would buy
A galley with good oars
Sail to distant shores
My mother told me
Someday I would buy
A galley with good oars
Sail to distant shores
I sail to distant shores
[Bagpipesolo]
[Outro]
My mother told me
Somеday I would buy
A galley with good oars
Sail to distant shores
Sail to distant shores

We were being sarcastic. Unfortunately the world is filled with people who see what they want to see even when there is nothing there to see. I don't want to get deep into it but the NY Times accused Mary Poppins of being racist and having black face when she was clearly dirty from being in the chimney. Tells you all you need to know about some people's lack of depth of understanding and context.

You need to do THE Band starting it all: In Extremo, Herr Mannelig, a Swedish song, sang in Swedish. Also featured in the German Game "Gothic" (in 2001, how many bands have had a digital Gig in a Video Game ever since?). Or "Liam" sang in Gaelic. You need to react to them. Another very Special Band is Van Canto. Mostly they use only a Drumset and their Voices. There is a Cover Version of "Fear of the Dark (live in Wacken)" on KZread that is pretty awesome.

The video depicts a viking ritual called "Holmgang" (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holmgang) where the nordic people would settle their differences. Whoever draws first blood wins. They did this since about 1000 BC, way before the set their feet on american soil. So give this folk a little credit, not everything is about your culture an nobody over here bats an eye if some dude is covered in mud or dirt and accuses him of "blackfacing". We sure have our own racists and every problems with them along those lines but I highly doubt that the thougt about some american snowflakes going berzerk when some supposed ancient warriors a ritually colored befor a fight.

Hey guys! This poem, Þat mælti mín móðir, was written in approx year 917 by my great great great... (repeat "great" 26 times hehe) grandfather Egill Skallagrímsson. I am his direct descendant 28 generations up. Egill Skallagrímsson was born in Iceland in the year 910 and is the main character in one of the most famous Icelandic Sagas, "Egils saga Skallagrímssonar". He was the son of Skallagrímur Kveldúlfsson, who emigrated from Norway. They settled in the West of Iceland and the farmhouse Borg is where they made their home. The small town of Borgarnes, a stone's throw away bears the name of farmhouse. Egill was quite the character. At the tender age of 7, he was playing sports with the neighbour's kid, Grímur Heggsson that was a strong 11 year old, and Grímur was giving Egill a hard time so Egill just killed him. As you do... haha. That's what vikings do. haha. After this his mother told him he would make a fine viking and Egill wrote this poem on that occasion. It should be noted that the Icelandic language has changed very little since that time. Here's Egill's original poem, followed by the modern Icelandic version: Þat mælti mín móðir, at mér skyldi kaupa fley ok fagrar árar, fara á brott með víkingum, standa upp í stafni, stýra dýrum knerri, halda svá til hafnar hǫggva mann ok annan, Það mælti mín móðir, að mér skyldi kaupa fley og fagrar árar, fara á brott með víkingum, standa upp í stafni, stýra dýrum knerri, halda svo til hafnar höggva mann og annan, Þorsteinn Kolbeinsson
