I'm really proud of both of you for being sober. I used to worry about the constant flow of beers, but I didn't figure it was my place to say anything. I'm 53 years sober and its worked for me. All the Best.
12 years and counting. Best decision I made. Sometimes I forget…. You get more done when you’re awake. 🍻🌮
We have BANGS! Right on! You're so damn cute with them. A podcast?! Bring it! Another documentary. This ain't no vlog. The editing is absolutely amazing. The projects are always so satisfying.

Thank you SO much
the fact that you 2 can spend so much time together and not kill each other might be even more impressive then building your own sail boat and then sailing it around the world ...

Thats funny shit there. I cannot make that stuff up.
When a couple beers is not enough it's time to make iced tea! Good for you too.
You both look at least five years younger. Sobriety looks good on you.
Congratulations on your sobriety. Hang in there it will be a great ride. One day at a time I now have 33 yrs.
Thanks for taking us along on all these little tasks. I don’t think filming your moment by moment work projects is one of your favourite things to do, so again, thanks.
23 days sober, that's gets my respect ! 👍

Congratulations on your sobriety.
Sober is a great way to live. I always thought it would be nice to sip one and wait for the effect - but I was always looking to get the next one before finishing the first one. Wasted way to live - pun intended unfortunately. 37 years of sober, enjoyable life experience now. I wish you the best. I really love your videos. Have fun, stay happy.
Eggs are amazing things, a bird lays an egg, then she goes off about her business that day. The next day she makes another and so on. Then hormones kick in and she sits and warms them all up. The oldest and the newest all at the same time develop embryos. They all hatch at the same time. Fertilised eggs are like suspended animation.
23 days sobriety. One day at a time …… be kind to yourself and take care. A huge step forward is saying it out loud. Im 12 years sober and every day is a gift. You look so different and it appeared obvious that something had changed 🙏🏻
I love the boating channel but I do miss the building part so when you do a episode like this I really like it. Congrats on the staying sober, not an easy thing to do. I had to cut back on my consumption several years back. It now takes me a month to consume what I used to drink in a night. While it was fun back in the day I definitely feel much better now.

Garrett just got the plans for the Tenderly, a rowing/sailing dinghy, so stay tuned for the build ;) Thanks for sharing. We needed to stop before digging that hole any deeper. Starting to feel much better about life and the future which is pretty sweet R
I'd like to say thanks for jogging my memory by going sober, because I rather like my beer, but it's not so conducive to productivity. So I've been cutting back, with a view to just leaving it behind me. I'll be richer and fitter and happier. Well done both of you!
Hey guys, as a 65 yo seadog who used be in the Royal Navy as a Signalman. Please get your ensign flying proud from its own ensign staff, I shudder every time I see it 😂😂😂😂😂

Ruth looks absolutely stunning!!! Abstinence agrees with you!!!
So happy for your sobriety! Life is so much better when your not hammered! 👍
When you get to 30 days the whole world will be watching you, to make sure you don't backslide! They say one day at a time, but when you realize that you're enjoying everything more, it will be worth it!!
So good to hear you describe all the lines while working with them and talking about what they are for with the proper names and why you are doing what you are doing. A real education for erstaz sailers like me. Funny how ridiculous hats appear totally normal when they are doing a job... like preventing sunburn and sunstroke. I am one of your viewers who remembers you two in the freezing cold under plastic sheeting... now with parts of the boat too hot to touch. I almost missed something so very exciting and important. 23 days. Oh my how I love to see someone like yourself doing that. By coincidence yestersay June 28 I delebrated 34 years and one thing I can say is that it gets better in waves and layers of understanding and appreciation as time ticks along one day at a time. So happy for you. And hell, I always have the option... but so far I would not trade the worst days I've had abstaining for the best days I had drinking. Not to say there weren't some grand high old times I cherish without regret. But life on its own terms has subtle benefits I value and want to explore further. Bravo!! I believe you have loving support as well. Great.
Absolutely love the look and feel of the boat! My favorite sailing channel by far!
Congratulations on your sobriety! You guys rock! Life is better with a clear head.
Nothing says 'in a better space' than its 23 days sober now. Great views while underway.
My friends grandmother drank everyday and died at 103. Its only a problem if you abuse it. Nothing wrong with a beer or glass of wine with a meal. Having said that, if you feel better for it, more power to you. Your podcast voice gets my vote.
Congratulations! 40 yrs ago in May I started over. It’s been the very best thing I ever did. Don’t give up before the miracles happen.
Lots of cute shots of Ruthie
Garret, on that Harkin block near where you attached it to the snap shackle, there are two set screws, loosen them or remove altogether and the block will swivel saving you the brass snap shackle for a different project, sorry I couldn’t catch you before you went up the mast and will have to again to implement this project, yet it is what it is, sorry sir.
these 2 deserve THE HIGHEST ratings on the youtube sailing scene! absoulutely The Best!
nice morning here in Rayong with you two…….
This might have already been said, but I think Ruth maybe expecting.
The twisting of the line in the block comes from the way you coil up lines.
Thanks for the update on the sobriety. When we were each drinking a bottle of wine every night, it seemed impossible to quit. But, seven months ago we got tired of feeling 'unhealthy' and just stopped. Haven't regretted the decision either. People, it's doable.

I'll add that life does look different, better and clearer all around. Well done, Ruth and Garrett.
Beautiful footage of Mexico proud of y’all
Been bing watching the build. It is such an incredible story, and you are telling it so well. I consider myself blessed to have met, and got to know you two, and hopefully be considered a friend. Till next time we meet, fair winds.
What fun doing all the fix ups on the boat. I’m not joking! I like fixing boats up as much as actually using them in the water.
"One day at a time I'm sober.. one day at a time.. When I think about a whole life without a drink.. I think.. one day at a time".. a little ditty I made up...😅
That sombrero is awesome! Good find!
Congratulations on being sober. 🎉🎉🎉
Congrats on the 23 days!! I thought I noticed a change in both of you. You seem more relaxed and happier. Ruth you actually look younger and even more beautiful than you were when you were drinking. You look so good and refreshed you both do !! I’m proud for you I know it hasn’t been easy ❤️🙏

Congrats! 23 days, is a way cool! It's gets easier,.
Good on you guys
A thing of beauty, and a joy to behold.
Great job with the sobriety. Boats looking good
You guys are really doing well from all the small maintenance projects to the continuous improvements to the rigging and sails. Having Garett's brother show up is a bonus. Looking forward to next week.
You are looking noticeably healthier, calm suits you.
Main boom gallows with a bronze bell near the companion way! Such beauty!
Now you have more 3 strand mooring lines! Always need dock lines.
Just found this, love it!
Hi guys! Glad to see you getting ready to explore more! I’m sure you are not using the oven because it is so hot- otherwise roasted veg and fish is sooo good. Also baked goods! Oven is critical for me! Hugs 🤗
“halyard” derives from the Middle English halier (“rope to haul with”)
great show got her looking good nice to get most of the rope work done and congrats on ur 23 day sober
You have my respect!!
Even if you weren’t entertaining, inspiring and fun I would watch just for the music as I prepare to return to the sea myself. Fair winds
Congratulations on your choice of sobriety! No need to explain the whys or wherefore, just carry on and enjoy your lives. I am one year and seven months sober, and the upsides just keep coming. 😎👍
I’m 63 years “sober” (never even tasted beer). I was a very shy person and figured I had enough problems without adding alcohol. My wife comes from a family of alcoholism so not drinking was OK with her. Then we went sailing and we actually got told we couldn’t sail if we didn’t drink. Did it anyway, just not with those people. So you two just go for it. You don’t need to drink to have fun.
Looking good you two ❤from Vancouver BC 🇨🇦
Good on Ya for 23 Days!!!!!
I just recently foundr you guys. I love your home-built ketch. She is beautiful and masterfully done. Such love and attention are seen by all . I'm along for the ride. And it's going to be a good one ! ! !
I made that decision about 10 years ago and I enjoy life twice as much. You guys are great 😊
Great video again congrats on alcohol free. Water maker feeling sick using in marina harbor. I have been made to believe in other you tube sailing channels that using the water maker in a marina is usually not done. Like you said fuel waste dumping ect makes it a no go. All those sail lines you did amazing. Do you have any plans crossing Pacific? Stay safe happy sailing

Looking forward to an episode, where you talk Rolf sailing! I remember him doing a lot of metal work and giving you some welding tips.
Great episode! Garrett is a good hand, keep up the good work and never lose the dream ⛵
Sea trials and corrections, additions continue. Well done! You both look great! Is it the sobriety? It's in both your eyes.
11:47 Just when I think I know most of your sailing terminology you bring out something new.
You both are looking good!
I saw it in your eyes early in the video, Ruth... Good decision... Growing up is decision, work, and discomfort... In its absence, the sea will kill you... God Bless you guys...
Water glassing eggs involves submerging clean, unwashed, eggs in a pickling lime and water solution to seal off the shell and preserve them for 12-18 months. The result is perfectly fresh, unspoiled eggs, just like they were the day the hen laid them.

Fair point. Would hate to open the oven and have suffocated hatchlings.😢
Nice touch peening the copper edges Garrett. Keeping lines and wet skin from fraying makes your work a joy to use, rather than a burden. 👍🏻
Sometimes the plan is not to have a plan. I'm retired now and my beer time is Sunday afternoon - not enough to get hammered though - it hurts too much now.
congrats on the 23 days
Been watching since the building phase. It brings great pleasure seeing the project materialize. Good Job on the living the dream! Peace of mind is priceless. I watch every day people chasing their tail on a pipedream that'll never bring that peace. You my friend, grabbed it from the bottom. If anything gets between the slight smile when laying down at night, get it gone!
Love it keep it up as always 💘
Great Video !
So proud of youse guys. 💕💕
Sending love ❤️ from South Australia
Work never stops on a boat got to love
Another great video! Really enjoy sharing these experiences with you!
Thanks for yet another wonderful episode. Fair winds!
Amazing! Keep going.
Beautiful boat in beautiful Mexico💖

The deal with the eggs needing refrigeration is washing them. Eggs have a natural protective layer, when washed that is removed and the egg must be refrigerated. Wash them just before using from your non refrigerated source and your good to go.

Congratulations
Awesome you all took it soon your selves to give sober sailing a try. Good on you and what ever you decide to do you two are the best!!!
The free life onboard can easily get out of hand. I have seen that a few times. Happy to see you take preventative measures. Congrats on kicking the habit!
You need to get rid of the Bolin, At the better end ,of the block and use the becket hitch which is made for a dead end at the bottom of the block
I could never tell you were drinking, and still built a beautiful sail boat. Congrats twice. Love the closeness.

Another great video!! Congrats on y’all’s sobriety!!! I can tell ya with every passing sober day life gets better. You two take care 👍✌️
Wow Sailor
L'M SO PROUD OF YOU KIDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 23 DAYS PTL.... That can be a life changer, one day at a time... Praying for you kids as always with much love, ne blessed in Jesus name...BBE..
When a chicken lays an egg, it has a thin coating on it called bloom. The bloom seals the egg from bacteria and keeps it fresh. If you don't wash that off, you can keep an egg unrefrigerated for about two weeks. But all the egg processors in the US wash the eggs and that makes them susceptible to bacteria contamination. So you must keep a washed egg refrigerated to slow the bacteria down. Otherwise they will only stay safe for a few days at room temp.
Love seeing improvements as you learn more about what she needs for your comforts. Bring your sexies out🎉🎉🎉🎉 Ps...congrats on current sober experience..the view does change from that. It also means more don't come a knocking if the boat be a rockin. 😂. Love you guys. Much respect. ❤
A podcast would be awesome. You could talk about any fun stories you had before building Rediviva, you could talk about future aspirations, thoughts on current topics. Hell, you could even interview other sailors you've met or will meet. I find the ol salt dogs have many a story to tell 😂.
