Salt & Tar: Ep.250- Rocket Pop
We visit two anchorages on Isla Carmen as we join up with Garrett's brother, Reid, on 'I Mua' and another couple aboard 'Kessel'. As we head back to civilization to pick up Reid's next crew member we get the chance to fly 'Rocket Pop', our new-to-us spinnaker!
Thanks for watching!
p.s. I try and reply to as many comments as I can but we are still so so busy so please do not take it personally 💕

Well said!!!!!
Perfect, tradition bought and sold, experimenting for a KNOT, @200 bucks ... I say well worth it....
Garrett, with all sails flying you looked so happy!
I’m 60 years old. Several accidents, four back surgeries and many other operations and I am now trying (as you are) to force myself to not take on so many projects and to slow myself down enough to relax occasionally. It is not easy and does not come naturally. I get you. Truly. I am fortunate because I can still outwork men half my age. The question is “why should I do that?” I need to set my pride aside and take the time to look at and appreciate my accomplishments instead of racing to start the next one. Good luck to you Sir. I hope you find the peace and tranquility that matches your surroundings.
Two very chilled humans.
30 seconds laying on that wooden deck in the breeze, sailing, and I'd be dead asleep. There's nothing in this one that's not absolutely beautiful. The caves were so awesome! Another masterpiece, Ruth. 💯💯❤️
Sooo sweet a life. Live it like you love it and love it like you mean it. And thanks for the smile I have.
17:20 now you need one for the mizzen
Hello from Siesta Key Florida Perfectly named 😂😊
Honeybees what a sweet omen!
Merci, for sharing!!! Greetings from the Normandy!!! S/V Moana
Yep, On "Newsboy" we had one used downwind called a "Spit Fire".... Great sail.
Carpe dium. My dad worked constantly, focusing on retirement, except when my mom talked him into a week off. He strove his whole life for something he never lived to enjoy. He had less than a year till full retirement when he got the diagnosis of advanced leukemia given a week to live, he lasted 3. Learn from him to live for today and plan for tomorrow loosely.
Never Look Back just forward guys. lol
You may have seen something fairly unusual. I think this is what you showed. Google Pyrosomida and see if you agree. Pyrosomida are an order of marine animals included in the Chordata (a group that also includes vertebrate animals). In concrete, they are inside the Thaliacea class in the Urochordata or Tunicata group. There are 2,000 species widely distributed in all oceans, from close to shore to big depths. The reason of their name, Tunicata, is that they present a tough tunic that covers and protects the animal and that contains cellulose. Urochordata or Tunicata can be classified into three classes: Ascidians (or sea squirts), Larvacea and Thaliacea.
The red white & blue seems appropriate somehow. It fits in.
You are moving from a building channel to a sailing channel and your boat putsje in mind of a small pirate boat
What a refreshing change to see traditional sailing as opposed to winches, electric or otherwise.
New sail worked out just right. Thanks for sharing. :)
It's about time for Youes'guys to relax
I love the bright colors
...always the best music too!

She sure is! And a real ship. I have to admit when under construction I said several time :"yes but why not build a good looking boat?" Was I ever wrong,so wrong ,everywhere she goes she outshine anything else on the water.

Better and Better !
Ruthie, get yourself a Lycra dive suit! They’re only about $100, are stretchy and light. Some divers use the under their neoprene suit. It will protect you from jellies and other small creatures that like to sample flesh. It will also protect you from sunburn when snorkeling. Works against fire coral you may find on reefs when you get to that part of the world. Garrett might want to get one too.

Aw! Thank you
A good Pole rig will give that spinnaker so much more control options
@Ruthie You can go in the water with regular clothes and they will help keep you warm. They will not weigh you down while you work in the water, but they will feel heavy when you climb out of the water. The little crustaceans on your friend's wet suit will stink like a fish market as soon ass they die. There will be plenty inside as well as what we saw on the outside.
Great soul in that there sail..etc 🎉
Looks like a small pirate ship!
Ahhhh....don't wake me.😎👍
Have a good time. Enjoy the video. You can take a few days off. Your guys work very hard, so now play. Best wishes, Raul Bryan, Texas
It's all good ,your spinny is doing its job for sure what a snack , I should be so lucky . Best to you both . Angus. SV Violet Walters
22:00 that would be considered the longest Whisker Pole because it is longer than the distance from the mast to the bow. As to the size of the Spinnaker it is better than nothing but I think it should be another 25-50sq/Ft larger to move Rediviva properly. Regardless it looks great and you hot an instant boos which is great. Happy Sailing.
Crew!!! Hoist the rocket pop!!! Someone bring me my brown pants. Love seeing you guys have fun.
Wow Sailor 🥳👍🥳
Fun thing to try with the spinnaker; tie the sheets together as wide as the foot, then fly the ‘Shute as far out as the halliard will go, then try to sit on the sheets in the water. I watched a couple spend an afternoon in Corsica dunking each other, every time the breeze filled the sail, up out of the water, then as the breeze dropped, so did they.
I know it’s not the “proper way”, but your way is the way I used to fly my gennaker.
Like a kid n candy store my brother😂
What a wonderful sense of accomplishment you must have as you are using your boat. I've watched most of your episodes from the beginning and still get emotional when I see the rewards of your labors. I built our home with little experience and lots of blood and sweat. Every once-in-a-while I set back and look at it and am so proud and grateful for what I have accomplished. You must get the same feeling as you reflect on your craftmanship and determination to have accomplished so much. I love the water. We do river camping from our 1974 16ft. runabout that my son and I have restored. We found it sunken in a lake up here in Wisconsin. Thanks for letting me share in your reward vicariously. The clear water in that cave is one of those things that your work has bought you. Enjoy!
It is awesome, and inspiring to see what happens when you slow down with clear eyes and take a breath. Loved the build loving this adventure even more. Well done!
love the bloopers!!
So happy for you guys. Life is short and you are doing what you love and loving each other to death. Never stop. God Bless you both.
My wife and I love watching your videos each week. The filming is beautiful and the storytelling narration is top notch.
Hi ya are they a blue bottle we get them in west Australia in the summer around shallow reefs they don’t kill you but the sting hurts I think you can poor some vinegar on them give it a go
And IL be drinking a margarita, and the trying to stop those been there done that, wish u all the luck in the world I want to blow kisses and hugs to u guys "typed this before looking at this video because I was worried all week for u 2 !!!! "
great work🏴☠️
Never been on a sailboat before enjoy watching you all sailing ⛵️
Ha, i remember rocket pops', been a while but i get the reference.
Nice editing Ruth.😀
It’s pretty cool to see over the past few weeks how much better the two of you look. Being free of alcohol seems to be doing you guys very well, congrats!
Your sailing adventures puts one at peace. Soothing, beautiful and so relaxing. Never stop what you do, please.
Garrett, you’ve got to get a mizzenmast staysail!

Nice job!
The shame is on you… wow that song made this video so special!! Thank you and must agree well edited
nice. It is always fun to see the landfall with you folks.
Most relaxing just to watch ya'll sailing and have fun. Ruth's smile at the end says it all.☺
Somebody got a hair cut. It looks really nice. And what a edit. Just outstanding.
doing NON boating stuff does make you BOTH look very content!!! All the best Richard
Love the colorful sail!! Be autiful cruise under the rocks and in the crystal clear water. We have a question..... what are the clusters of fuzzy mop looking things that are attached to your rattlings? What do they do or what are they for? And yes, we love that you all are relaxing and letting someone else work on your boat... though we could see it in Garret's eyes that he really wanted to be down there in the water...... just a little... HAHHAHA ..... Beautiful!

Haha he paces on deck instead not knowing what else to do! They are called baggywrinkles and they are to protect the sails from chaffing on the rigging wire. We still have to finish adding some to the mizzen shrouds and the lazy jacks (the lines that help the sail stack as we lower it) R
Too Cool !!
Rocket pop is epic perfect fit🤘🤘🤘🤘
I do really like the looks of her when under sail. she's like a miniature of a fullsized sailing ship from the age of sail... the bright spinnaker might be more suited to a bermuda cat, but it looks great there and seems to really work well!. I will say, you really need a bell :)
Getting better and better. We’re enjoying watching very much. ❤
That's my style, rigging cheap and making it work 🤙
Thanks for taking this land lover on your travels
Good point about relegating grunt work, after toiling so hard to build the boat... another aspect is that as captain, you have a fair amount of mental stress; traditionally there would be hands to deal with maintenance, etc. You need room to focus on your command. Think of it that way, and suddenly you won't seem lazy, LOL

Excellent episode. I would love to see some drone shots of the new spinnaker. Aloha.
Great video footage of the scenery. Thank you so much for sharing.
Great times for y'all, I spent 6 yrs in a 35' diesel pusher land yacht...not sure if there is enough Dramamine for me to hit the seas...living thru KZread as I ponder the motion of the ocean. Following 5 channels different vibes, love yalls story.

Glad to see more “R & R” for you Folks…and it’s OK for Garret to take a “ Breather”😜Continue to Stay Safe and Enjoy😎
Put some Rock salt in the Bilge was taught to me whenI had my wood 25 foot cape in 1975 she was made in the 30’s, the old guy told me that fresh water in the Bilge rots the ribs overtime if you put Rock salt all over a sprinkle it brines the Bilge. Bravo Zulu..
You guys are amazing and so is your boat. I think that whenm thinking that big coloful pinnaker comes out it must look like a dragon. Awesome look!
"been here the whole way with you through the build and sure feel what this means to be sailing in tropical waters, putting final touches to your masterpiece. Highest blessings
Just remember that there is a Shark the size of a school bus in those waters...so be careful or get pictures. You guys are great. Wish you could have all new sails, your boat would look even better than it does.
All your hard work is certainally paying off!
New spinnaker looks awesome.
This seems like a special episode, a whole lotta love. You all are living in your own group paradise. You both look so much better and happier.
And what two sails did you fly on your way here? "Oh, the spinnaker and Mizzen!" Wait, What? You do things your way so well, I don't think any of us think that it is unusual anymore. And, Yes, after so long building your beautiful home, from the Concrete Foundation to the top of the Main Mast, it is about time you got some hired labour in (Even if it is Family).
Loven it you 2! I'm almost ready to pull the trigger on my first sail boat. Looking at a 30ft Catalina. Time to get back on the water ❤

You are both looking very healthy.I sailed single handed, so foredeck work with poles was out for an old crusty like me, but, a cruising chute that could be tacked and used for reaching was a thing of beauty. Light wind sailing with a colourful sail is the bomb. As usual, top tunes..
A beautiful life ya'll been dealt a good hand thanks for bringing us along
Probable the best ever. Fabulous story telling and videos. Love your kind spirits. Little beer cooler Ted
Nice camera work!!
Such gorgeous blue water, and that spinnaker!
awesome video the sail you got for 200 US dollars was a great fine. The area you are at is so exotically beautiful. Safe sail catch you next video
Spinnaker looks great.
Now that’s a spinnaker pole!
Really beautiful video great job editing must be difficult to just make a half hour with so many wonderful things to photograph. Ruth you look stunning.
