Salt n Peppa are undoubtedly one of the best hip hop groups of all time let alone among women artists. The flow, the groovy get down, the unapologetic display of their sexuality, everything is so ahead of their times. Definitely paved for artists such as Nicki Minaj, Shakira etc

The 25 year anniversary medley video here on youtube is amazing. Most of the people there was obviously too young to appreciate the greatness but it was an instant save for me. Iconic group of ladies!

Salt N Peppa gave them the sexy female artist manual; just add talent and joila. They skipped the talent and just took off more clothes and made the lyrics so you can't or should be ashamed to sing it in front of your grandmother.

They grew and developed as artists from their first single to Shoop. The contrast is huge. Especially the 80s. Alot of artists got stuck there in not being able to try sonething new and reinventing yourself that makes it sound fresh yet you didn't force yourself to change. This should come naturally as times and people change. There wasn't women in the rap/hip hop game at the time. And bring this fire of a banger. They stood right there at the forefront as trailblazers who solidified themselves into the American music lexicon. It introduced us little ones who weren't old enough to have known the group's first wave of success in the 80s, and our first exposure to great rap and hip hop were these great jams. MTV had this on heavy rotation for years.

Salt and Pepper did it effortlessly and it's still on fire. Chilling Chilling minding their business ❤❤This is what real music sounds like. I know all the words still but can't remember what I did yesterday 😂. These are the songs we need now. Good music 🎵🎶 never gets old

These "youngsters" were looking at me like I was senile. Children, you will never experience the joy that is Salt-N-Pepa 😃😍

It’s 2024 & I’m 56, turning 57 in November. I used to have this album and I still love this song and that album. Older ppl today are a lot cooler than they used to be. I imagine in the future the youngsters from today will be even cooler and look even younger than today’s middle aged ppl. Aging and age appropriate stuff like music, fashion, etc is becoming less and less meaningful as ppl are looking and behaving more youthful than ever before.

Probably because at the time most of us care more about the quality of the song/music/video. Their looks were noticed but not prioritise. Not for women or men. Well, not always. If you pay attention, in the old videos like this one there were people of all shapes and sizes. Now they try to make it so all background people and backup dancers look a certain way.

except the song never says that she said no. got it? the song insinuates HIS side of the story only. I watch the vid and see no girls saying no. they are interacting, in fact. I hear the lyrics, and take it that there are guys (friends maybe) hitting on girls in a club maybe, and they are all 'trying to get at them' by competing... which all guys do. hell I hear women talk as suggestively as BL does, like *THIS* song does, so don't NOBODY objectify the opposite and some times SAME sex, which is the MOST that BL does. (BL = blurred lines). really? he hits on a girl and is competing with another dude and that gets hated on? I"m female and see NO problem with it. cuz it's sex, and 99% of humans think and talk about it AND do it, small minority are asexual and can take or leave it. it's OK.. it's HUMAN

35 year old white dude here, used to totally crush on these beautifully powerful women back in the day. I have NO PROBLEM telling anyone young enough not to have heard of what it means to "pave the road" in a musical genre, these females actually built the whole damn highway..no joke oh ya, threw in this edit for always sending them on their way to "What a man" by En Vogue (sp) after this for good measure

@@clover81 did they run out of chairs at the local Klan rally? Why would you go on a thread of the artists songs/fans comments and be absurdly racist? You might want to consider backing away from the keyboard once and awhile instead of tossing hate-filled comments online...

Music knows no barriers, I am black and like what I like, one time I will listen to Lee Anne Womack, Shania Twain and Jolene before switching to Busta Rhymes, it’s my mood and what it wants.

@@WinstonKing right on, I feel you on that. I can remember back to when I was little and the feelings I would get (like goosebumps on my arms and stuff) when a good song would come on. I can still remember C+C Music factory and Alanis Morissette on the same mix tape my mom would play back then while she'd get ready for 3 hours 😆 can you remember what songs gave you feelings like that way back? I'm curious to see if I've heard them or may find something nice and new to listen to. Thanks for the reply.

I heard this song many times as a kid in the 90's. I had absolutely no idea what it was about. And neither did my mother. She only listened for curse words. If she didn't hear any, she didn't pay attention to the lyrics. I remember getting into my 20's, looking this song up on KZread and being floored by the lyrics. In my mid 30's now, this song makes me chuckle whenever I think of how often my friends and I loved this growing up.
