Salt is Leaving - BBC Saturday Night Theatre - J. B. Priestly
Музыка
John Boynton Priestley was an English novelist, playwright, screenwriter, broadcaster and social commentator.
His Yorkshire background is reflected in much of his fiction, notably in The Good Companions (1929), which first brought him to wide public notice. Many of his plays are structured around a time slip, and he went on to develop a new theory of time, with different dimensions that link past, present, and future.

Thank you enjoyed it very much reading is terrific
Thanx So very much Uncle Chesterton ! We always like to engage in a good 'Priestley' ( and what a darned good one this was too-with dare I say it...a soupçon of humour-or is it me ha' ? ) after a busy weekend ! Anyway- Sorry I've been so quiet and unobtrusive recently....but- me and Lottie have been at our wit's end recently, what with arranging the local Ferret Racing 'world cup' competition in town...and then going on our early season holiday to 'Where The Mud Meets The Sea' - Southport !....it's been rather hectic. Thanks Uncle Chessie.

Good entertainment the beeb used to produce great programs. Alas no more or very few and far between.
Thanks - enjoyed this tremendously.
JBP at his best. An outstanding production. No wishy-washy characters in a Priestley play.
Enjoyed this Well acted play Keep them coming.
Brilliant story and very well acted. Thank you for bringing these stories to life again.
Brilliant drama..thanks for sharing..kind regards Dave 😁👍👍👍
I really enjoyed this wonderful play 👏🏻👏🏻. Thank you for uploading 👍
Great stuff.,!
Don't miss. Well worth a listen 👏😀
Gratitude! Most enjoyable!
wonderful end to a lovely Christmas!!
This murder mystery unfolds in a convoluted manner. Our protagonist, Dr. Salt, seems to be clairvoyant as he takes a personal interest in the fate of a patient and unravels the mystery by intuition, leading him to conclusions that are beyond the comprehension of police detectives and acquaintances of the victim.

Priestley was a great writer and more importantly , a great and compassionate human being . It's a great shame he's gradually slipped into being forgotten in Britain today. Check out his other radio plays..?

Not so as his plays are still being studied in schools . Just as that old playwright, Shakespeare still is read , studied and performed today . Personally I much prefer JBP
Thank you
Very good. Thank you very much for uploading. As someone else says, very well acted. The doctor did come over as a bit "know it all" as someone said, but carried off very well by the actor. With JBP you don't expect a run of the mill detective story, and this isn't one, even if he did write it originally just for his own amusement. He was a student of human character, and it shows. I wonder whether he toyed with the idea of writing a series of "Dr Salt" mysteries, a bit like Christie and Poirot, etc. But evidently, he didn't write any more, or none that has been discovered. I don't know about his "theory of time"; I tend to think of that as more of a literary device, but nevertheless, it's interesting.

I am sure we have all come across rather superior doctors!
Thank you for uploading. Dr Salt reminds me of Dr Sloan (Dick van Dyke). 🕵♂️
Very good but then Priestley wrote it so that was no surprise.

I love JBP so much. I was sad when I had finished reading everything he wrote.
Just terrific, very enjoyable but the one problem was........just a bit too much seasoning!!!! Ouch!!
Sounds like Pat Archer ?

Thank you, I do hate the comments that go on
Think of all the elements that had to come together to present this. Radio, the art of radio drama, a J.B. Preistley plot, actors from here to Broadcasting House all adding up to a wordy excursion and pay checks. This cloaks the mediocre - drowning in verbiage, "one day it's a turkey that you know fold - you may be stranded out in the cold" "There's no business like show business" = ,
So, he let her get away with it? Why?
Thanks as always for making it possible to listen to a well-acted play. I found Salt rather too ‘know it all’, and began to hope that one of the other characters would bury an axe in his head. Just to...shut him up! Mind you, the other characters were also annoying. A bit like the conclusion! That really WAS annoying! These minor gripes aside I can thoroughly recommend it to anybody who likes JPH!

But he did know it all didn't he?!? So totally justified!! I never had a problem with his attitude but some people who have issues with authority, that isn't theirs, might.

I don't think this type of thing was JBs forte still well worth a listen. You will have to forgive the plot faults. It's a bit like Shakespeare, wonderful if you read between the lines, but hard going at times. Mind you the language takes some concentration to decipher.
Not ok for murderer to get away with it. Bad ending.

What like the real world
God help us! Too staged Too obviously contrived 😭
Far too wordy for my liking, and I grew to shouting ‘slow down’ as the dialogue was gabbled to the point of incomprehension. I gave up less than half way through.

Well that’s what Priestly wrote! It was dialogue with no action as such . Perhaps try listening?
