New for 2020, the QST 92 is built to the same recipe as its wider brothers, the 99 and 106. In the new versions, carbon, flax, and basalt are meshed together throughout the ski for even smoother, stronger, and more predictable performance. Much like we noticed the new cocktail of ingredients in the 2019 versions of the 99 and the 106, we found the 2020 editions of these skis, including the 92, to be even better.
So, the other changes. Well, the shapes and topsheets have been redone throughout the line. Cork inserts in the tips of the skis keep swingweight down while maintaining dampness. Shorter taper helps the skis make more precise turns. In the 92 and 99, I found the most stable and damp QSTs to date.
Meanwhile, the 106, which features a bit of a deeper rocker line in the tails, is more playful than past versions. The tails make you think of the aggressively rockered QST 118, and the translation to snow is that these skis are super easy to ski, even in the tightest trees on the mountain, and they are ridiculously fun in soft snow. Additionally, thicker sidewalls give them extra oompf for mixed or cut up snow. The 106 surfs and slashes and stomps landings, but it can also be skied happily by an intermediate skier at slower speeds.
