Thanks very much for the info. It was the Power Pro I was thinking of getting, just as you say I was a bit worried about the finer diameter stuff being prone to wind knots etc. Will go with the 15kg. Keep up the good work with videos and thanks again.

I’m a young lad starting out I had bought the rod reel and line before watching your video and thank god your set up and my set up are roughly the same cuz I was thinking my set up may be a bit to strong but all is good now I see you kinda need it strong The big thing I got out of it was to put a leader on rather then just braid. I did not know that and the small guide on size of the flying c’s is very helpful so thank you

I would enjoy to show you our Chinook and Coho streams here in Southwest Washington state USA. I make my own spinners and do well with them. Great to see you share your setup. I catch them in the surf at times too, which is a great bit of fun. Good luck to us all.

Very informative. Like how you keep things simple and your nice easy-going manner. Was thinking of changing from mono to braid on my salmon spinning reel. Could you tell me what diameter your braid is. You described it as being 13 or15 kgs. perhaps you could indicate which is your preferred brand. There seems to be a marked difference in diameter in relation to b.s. across the various brands. Tight Lines.

Hi Edward, the diameter is 0.19 mm for the 13 kg and 0.23 mm for the 15 kg. The reason I give both is that some people have issues with using such fine diameter braid and the slightly thicker braid is less prone to wind knots. There are quite a few good braids around now but if you spend the money on a good braid like Spiderwire or Power Pro and get the 275 m spools you can keep turning the braid every season and get a few years from each spool. My last braid gave me over five seasons before I had to change it.

Great video and super helpful! I had the right setup but wanted that confirmation which is hard to find online with so much varying articles out there. I do have one question however. For the sea bass in Holland I tie the lines together instead of using a swivel. Would you always use a swivel to connect the fluro and braid when spinning for Salmon?

Yes it's very important because there's alot of moving parts on the flying c's that I fish so the swivels especially the bigger chrome swivel takes out the kinks otherwise it'll be birds nests all day. Braid can tangle very easy so using the chrome swivel and long casting every 8 or 10 casts reeling under tension helps stop the vast majority of tangles.

Hi Neil, there are plenty of good rods available for salmon spinning just make sure its between 10gr to 50gr casting weight and 10ft. I prefer a three piece for easy storage in car boot but Daiwa, ABU ,Shimano, Shakespeare and Rovex all have nice rods. I have a Rovex 10ft, Shimano, Hardy ,Daiwa and now a travel ABU 4piece all good rods for salmon and bar the Hardy they cost me between 40 and 70 euros each so not expensive.

True, it's extremely important to understand that most flying c's will stop working within a few sessions of fishing, they will stretch from getting caught up in rocks etc and this causes them to stop spinning correctly when upstream fishing. They will all work well when downstream spinning but defective spinners will not work upstream. I change mine very often and just buy a good cheap generic brand from my local tackle shop and once I feel it stop pulling I just change to a new one as it increases my catch rate especially when used with braid.

Its a Hardy Sirrus 10 ft 15gr to 60 gr. 3 piece salmon rod.

Late evening a two fly cast of a size 12 or 14 Butcher on dropper and a size 10 Van Beck on point will take good trout into darkness. I will be putting up a video soon on Czech nymph fishing with some dry / dropper and fishing with Spider patterns which can be very successful during the day.

My dream is to catch a salmon and I need to find a good rod

Most rods these days in 10ft length and a casting weight of 10 to 50gr will cover most salmon fishing needs.They can range from 40 euros to hundreds of euros depending on how serious you are going to take salmon fishing.
