Great video and super helpful! I had the right setup but wanted that confirmation which is hard to find online with so much varying articles out there. I do have one question however. For the sea bass in Holland I tie the lines together instead of using a swivel. Would you always use a swivel to connect the fluro and braid when spinning for Salmon?
@MrKingfisher36 ай бұрын
Yes it's very important because there's alot of moving parts on the flying c's that I fish so the swivels especially the bigger chrome swivel takes out the kinks otherwise it'll be birds nests all day. Braid can tangle very easy so using the chrome swivel and long casting every 8 or 10 casts reeling under tension helps stop the vast majority of tangles.

When you say fishing spiders down stream how is that done?
@MrKingfisher36 ай бұрын
Spiders can be fished upstream like dry fly, across and down following with the rod oliver Edwards style but also wet fly style casting 45 degrees across and slow figure of eight retrieve rod high especially on seams the takes are very aggressive but high sticking allows the rod to take the shock rather than ping off trout, figure of eight retrieve keeps you in contact with the flies at all times.

Hey Paul, great video and really informative. Quick question, if you are using a a full sinking shooting lead like a intermediate, sink 3 or sink 5, what leader set up would you use? Richie
@MrKingfisher39 ай бұрын
Any tippet on a sinking line has to be 3ft because if its any longer it's not staying down at the depth you want to achieve, now if you want the fly higher up then go with a longer leader. If I'm using anything deeper than 2ins per second sink polyleader /versileader etc then it's 3ft 20lb trilene or 15lb G3 fluorocarbon because if I want to go deeper again I'll swap the fly for a small bullet tube and I'll need the stronger fluorocarbon for turnover of the tube. Tight lines. Don't forget to sub.

Hi Paul, great tips. I fish a spate river and I am never 100% sure what size of fly to use as the water level changes ever so slightly. I normally fish a 12 in low water and mostly a 10 in most other conditions unless its very high I will use a tube. Also is it a good or bad idea to chop and change flies from dull patterns to bright patterns or is there a rule of thumb I should follow depending on the conditions? Thanks
@MrKingfisher39 ай бұрын
That's an easy answer, fish your most productive pattern in size 14 or 15 in low water then maybe 10 in higher coloured water also the tube is good for high water but I'll let you into a secret I fish 15 all the time just brighter in early season dulling down in late season or very low water / old fish.
