How do you stop landlords increasing rents to completely suck up UBI? The only thing controlling it at the moment is the ability of people to pay - because there isn't enough affordable housing. That problem would need to be fixed at the same time.

Rent prices are indeed insanely high, but there's 2 sides to that coin. Why does everybody demand to live downtown where everything imaginable exists within spitting distance and nobody wanna live in smaller towns or god forbid villages? How do we fit all people in just the massive cities? And who's gonna grow our food, filter our water and do a million other things that you can take for granted in the city if nobody lives outside the city? Cities are huge resource leeches with nothing but money to show up for it In my country I never see people complain about rent prices in small towns and villages, only in the handful of biggest cities. And I know for a fact there are shit tons of empty houses because the owners live abroad. I bet if you offered them 1/4 of the asking price in the capital they'd allow you to live in their houses. And it's a house with a yard, not a hole in a concrete block that you need to share with who knows how many other people living in their own holes in the same concrete block

@@justjoe5373 the jobs are in the big cities. That is the reason there are fewer people and empty houses in smaller towns. If there were the jobs, then it wouldn't be a small town / village any more! Also village farms don't need a huge workforce (or only very temporarily) any more or a big local support network.

@@simonabunker I know all that (I moved too) but the law of supply and demand says if people wanna pay more why not take the money? The issue is that nobody wants to open up places in smaller towns (not only businesses but higher education and recreation facilities) because the workforce isn't there. And workforce isn't there because the quality of life is lower than in big cities. And it's a self fulfilling prophecy, I don't wanna open up a business here because of the workforce and young people won't stay here due to a lack of jobs

No, but according to this videos idea you’d have about money to pay someone… cuz the missing piece is likely that the 500000 would start to just cover the base costs of living. Just like how people used to live of dollars and hour salary and now people are fighting for 20 for low level entry jobs just to be able to barely get by

And capitalism DOES need the threat of homelessness and poverty to survive. And a reserve pool of unemployed labour. With a base income of 500K per month this threat is gone and the Capitalist economy dies out as no one will volunteer to continue working for some profit seeking capitalists.......so yes, communism. People will focus on their own hobbies and interests as automation which doesn't work for private individuals (an assumption that he makes in order to come to his conclusions) takes care of all the labour.
