Australia's Sally Pearson wins the gold medal in the women's 100m hurdles event at the London 2012 Olympic Games, setting a new Olympic Record in the process (8 August).
The USA's Dawn Harper won the silver medal in the event followed by compatriot Kellie Wells winning bronze.
Since 1896, athletics has been on the programme of each edition of the Games of the Olympiad. Its presence on the Games programme has allowed its popularity to increase across the world. This popularity was also strengthened by the creation of the IAAF in 1912. Women's events appeared for the first time at the 1928 Olympic Games in Amsterdam, while the men's programme was standardised as of the 1932 Games in Los Angeles. Although at the beginning women were authorised to participate in only some events, today their programme is almost identical to that of the men.

I particularly liked the way Harper went over to Sally and congratulated her on the win. That doesn't always happen in track.

Actually, all the interviewees
The sportsmanship in this race from Harper, Pearson and Wells was just lovely. You don't often see that.
They were all extremely well spoken, honest and worthy of everything they got. Love this race.
I think it's incredibly awesome that these ladies are friends and hugging each other. You don't really get that it with the male sports, but these women are so supportive of each other even while competing against each other. That is brilliant!
Dawn is such an amazing person
I like how she screams in her ear when they hug
I meet sally Pearson today. Very friendly woman and very inspiring
Kelly Wells, what a good sport. Respect to her
Sally Pearson was a powerhouse.
The Hurdles is a whole nother special Talent Race!

Excellent sportswomanship from all three athletes. Grace and joy combine with the sense of bringing honor to their home nations. Three cheers for Sally, Dawn, and Kellie!
Sally is a legend in Australia. The Americans were so gracious and positive, they did their country proud in every respect.
I love how the American chicks are all congratulating Sally Pearson and not giving a crap about that spoiled brat Lolo Jones. Love it!

***** They didn't like her because of all of the coverage Lolo received leading up to the Olympics. A little bit of jealousy, but the media made lolo a darling.

***** Don't pick on Lolo. In Beijing 2008 she waited for Dawn Harper to do her lap of honour so that she could offer congratulations. That despite her own deep disappointment. If you are going to attack anyone then make it confirmed drug cheat Nevin Yanit.
great to see the sportsmanship here & it was pretty cool to again watch that brief moment when Sally needed to be absolutely sure that she had won l

Fatima502 Don’t get me wrong. I like Dawn. Very entertaining with a great personality and a lovely smile too. Fabulous cartwheels. Congrats Dawn. However many great athletes have come back and won medal after medal.
Kellie Wells isn't a rookie she's been around, but still a very well executed race and congratulations to all these ladies for even being there
1.40 sportsmanship personified!👍👍
Beast!!
Darn! Those abs!
Sally's performance is absolutely amazing, the two are very closed at the finishing line
Inspirational
FANTASTIC, ,CONGRATS SALLY

Dawn Harper wins many harts in this
Bravo Nevin!
Harper.. what a class act right..
Dally is my inspiration for athletics I love to do my hurdles
Wow the americans girls are so positive especially dawn harper 👏
Kellie Wells is my favorite.
Those who said that Brianna Rollins were over proud, she ran that in a small championship and with wind +1.2m/s while here is -0.2m/s, can't you see, you can't say Rollins is better than Pearson yet!
that was super close!
green and gold in a field of red :) well done sally!
Rollins ran 12.26. phenomenal
I'm an Aussie. The American girl is all class.
I really like dawn Harper :)
In my life have noticed a huge difference between women and men that being girls are so much more inclusive of others.
I didn't know Stampy was the Olympic interviewer
pearson has the best techinque out of everyone, if you think she bad someone is wrong with your eyes
Pearson says "Mic mic" XD
Aussie Aussie Aussie
this vid rocks
Woooooooo Australia FTW
One day I hope to win gold medals at the Olympics for Australia :) I think I could
Harper seem to be a nice lady RESPECT to you
The WR is 12:24. no-one has beat that yet...
AUS us finally GOOD AT AN OLIMPIC SPORT
Mustang Sally 👍
Probably the best highlight of the Australian Team compared to our pathetic swimming team!
it's the first person whose torso crosses the finish line.
Why not ?
as a highschool hurdler, i want to be able to do this..
@agdollsrock415 that's really fast. For our state champ, the winner ran it in like 16 seconds. My fastest time was 21 seconds -.-
Well in the next 12 years I'll be there

wheres michelle jenneke
@agdollsrock145 that's really fast... Where I live, our state champ in 100 meter hurdles for girls was like 16 seconds... So you're pretty fast. I run 100 meter hurdles in 21 seconds -.-
It looked like her arm beat Pearson on the line...
OMG!!! I once did a 100m hurdles race i was just like Dawn i was in first and everything went away and i didnt even know that i didnt win lol
on times, Jessica Ennis would have finished 4th
