One of my favorite parts of the show, (and Jeff's anxieties). Before we had Michael Scott, an American studio tried creating a version of Coupling, and fell flat on their faces. It's just something that the cast and crew couldn't quite replicate. Honestly, when you said "misinterpretation and double entendre", the first places that my mind went were the "shadayim" story and when Jane told her friends that her bf was a plastic surgeon and not a butcher.

cbak12sg I know this is 6 years old comment but just wanted to say, I agree. But most of BBC’s comedy sitcoms back then we’re done in front of an audience... it’s so much better than the canned laughter nonsense you get these days. Mind you, I was surprised at just how many sitcoms are still recorded this way. There’s an awful lot you would never expect to have an audience.

@ztunelover If you found Jane to be annoying that proves that Gina Belman is a good actress because she is supposed to be annoying. But Gina certainly had her moments when she was endearing. The final season they went a long way toward making her a real live human being. Her being annoying didn't stop her from being smoking hot IMO.

For my part, I find Sally annoying and sometimes unexpectedly shallow and even pathetic, just as Jane put it using the "snake of truth". Jane herself had moments of self obsession, but also self-insight: One can interpret it her character as not fully consistent, or the one with the most progress in character development.

@TuberOnTheLoose There was something amazingly sexy about Emilia but for looks I don't think as sexy as the others. It was more just a thing about her personality. I liked that there was a bit of a reversal, where Jeff and Jane are painted as the weirdest, and Sally and Patrick as supposedly normal, and then as the show goes on you see more of Sally and Patrick being very weird... I forgot about this scene, and how well it was done! Kudos to both actresses and the writing, etc. It's funny but also quite endearing

Many episodes rely on some misunderstanding of the ongoing dialog, due to some wrong information or pre-assumption (or when it comes to Jeff: an unnecessary hilarous lie he keeps going...). Among these storylines, this one might be weaker than average, though: when watching it the first + second time, it is still way above average in the vast row of sitcoms. And Jennifers blinking eye does the rest.
