The cathedral city of Salisbury is steeped in history and is one of the finest tourist destinations in Wiltshire. one of the best attractions close to the city is Stonehenge.
The city retains much of its medieval centre, with a delightful market square and traditional shopping streets, which lead to the magnificent cathedral. Salisbury cathedral is visually stunning, the colossal spire stands at 123m, while the front façade is ornately carved. Salisbury is pronounced 'Soolsberry' NOT 'Sails'bury. I should know I live here.

I lived in Salisbury for 5 years, that was 40 years ago. I was 19 years old when I first arrived in Salisbury. The city was vibrant, lots of shops, and the town was buzzing during the weekend. After 40 years, I decided to go down memory lane, so I made a trip to Salisbury to show my children where I had the most fun in my twenties in England. I was so disappointed to say the least. The town is almost dead, what a pity.

Beautiful video! Thank you. Salisbury Cathedral is one of the most beautiful in England--unusual in that it was built as a unified structure without a lot of extra chapels and extensions in different styles, so it has a particular harmony. The close is spacious and also beautiful. One small quibble: the name is pronounced Sawls-b'ri (short i), the first syllable rhyming with "shawls."

We’ve just returned from a short break taking in Winchester, Portsmouth & Salisbury. I’m going to be blunt, Salisbury was a dump! I can understand why 50% of this video is shots of the cathedral and a few well framed shots of the river. The city is beyond tired and rundown. We were expecting more quaint like Canterbury or Lincoln but it was nothing of the sort. We found the town centre had almost nothing to see, you shared a photo of a lovely bridge over the river. We passed it, to the left was litter, graffiti and drunks. I don’t mean to be hard on the place but we were just SO disappointed. It was so bad if we had the option of cancelling our hotel we would of. Our only highlight was a pub/restaurant called the Chapter House which was lovely with great staff.

As I live there I'm going to defend it, but I will agree that there are some very grotty areas. The city centre might look humdrum, but it's worth taking a guided tour (on foot) as there is a huge amount of history which even the residents miss. For example the little chapel over the gate to the Close still exists, where Handel wrote the Messiah.

Sowsbury? It’s pronounced Sawisbury and it’s a city not a town. Sorry incorrect pronunciation but beautiful photography.
