Rajesh Khanna would have done Deewar as he had done with other films with success.

Rajesh had come from a family affected by partition. Possibly at some time he might have said something about rising power of Mslm or salim javed in Bollywood which could have made them vengeful against him. Then they picked amitabh who was totally from mslm camp and played all deewar kind of atheist/ridiculing Hindus beliefs roles created by salimJawed.

Not fully but definitely played some part in it..RK also destroyed his image being not professional to his profession..it was Salim Javed who removed RK from Deewar and now he is saying kuch nahe kiya😅..they are not Saints... played politics...so karma played the role by splitting their pair

Rajesh Khanna may have been popular actor and superstar in his time. But i wonder how ? His acting was very mediocre and childish, at times irritating. And his looks, voice and persona didn't fit in action film genre. Just imagine what would have happened if he was cast in films like Deewar etc.

Acting mediocre hoti toh anand, khamoshi, safar, bawarchi, dushman, prem kahani, naukari, amardeep, avtaar, am at prem, namak hatam, thodi si bewafai, agar tum na hotey, swarg jaise author backed roles rajesh khanna ko na milte. Dusri taraf amitabh ke carrier ko dekhein. Unki 70 se 80 percent hit movies multi starer hain air Rajesh khanna ke poore carrier mein unhone 90 percent se zyada movies solo hi ki thi. Yeh aaj bhi ek record hai. Rakesh khanna romantic, family entertainer aur social movies ke liye behtareen choice they. Amitbh zyadatar action movies ke liye hi fit they. Rajesh khanna ki bahut si movies jo tab nahin chali thi amitabh ki bahut si lost and found movies se kahin zyada behtareen thi. Yeh sab reality hai.

Bollywood doesn’t care about height body for action like Hollywood. Amitabh was lanky but still presented as action hero. Vinod khanna Dharmendra were more appropriate choices for angry young man. Rajesh would have easily played intense action roles.
