Salento Beaches & Crazy Italian Fast Food | Exploring Puglia's Salento
Salento Beaches & Crazy Italian Fast Food - Pizza Dough Burger & Octopus Sandwich?! | Exploring Puglia's Salento
This Italy food video we try some Italian fast food. If you are as intrigued by what Italian food is like as we were, you won't be disappointed. In Puglia, the pizza dough Puccia sandwich is popular street food but in Taranto, they go one better make and have perfected the dirty burger. It is a pizza dough burger with fries inside. Crazy, delicious and weird. They also have an octopus sandwich. Visually different, it is an interesting take on Italian seafood. If you are looking for what you should eat in Italy, I think this should be on your list. Probably not that high on your must-eat list, but should be there all the same :)
We also visited the beautiful beaches of Salento. Puglia is famous for its beaches and again they didn't disappoint even if the weather wasn't in our favour. We visited the Maldives of Salento, Gallipoli and Punta Procusttio beaches and then to top it all off, Salina dei Monaci Nature reserve where they had bloody FLAMINGOS!! A must do in Italy in my bird book ;)

really underrated chanel! Love your video's
I am a local. When the wind is Sud/West you have to go on the Adriatic side, like Otranto, when is Nord/Est, go to Ionic side like Gallipoli or Maldive. One great natural reserved and more bigger and organized, It is WWF Le cesine, near La poesia (the cave of poetry). With way more Flamingos!
Beaches, Burgers and BIRDS! I can't believe you just stumbled on a random flock of Flamingos, how awesome is that. Also Emma I really like your outfit while you were walking the streets :)

Easy tip for Salento visitors. West coast only if it’s northern wind! Amazing videos guys! Congrats! 👏🏻
Literally drooling watching you eat that pizza dough burger. Epic! As far as accomodation goes I think comfy bed and good night's sleep is a priority over how posh it is. I'd rather sleep on a comfy bed in a concrete cell than a crap bed in a posh place.

Burger 🍔 for me 😋 and birds! Yes 🙌🏻
Bello, bello, bello, belloooooo!!!!
LOVE THIS! Especially seeing how you spend so little on a room for the night! My goal is always to spend the least amount on our room w/o it being sketchy. The best part about traveling in Europe is that you can get amazing rooms for so cheap, especially compared to the US where you often find dirty, old, outdated rooms for $150+ depending on where/when you go (New England coast near where we live for sure)! I don't think that our friends who don't travel the way we do understand how affordable it is. They think we are fancy & extravagant by going to Europe a couple times a year (when there isn't a pandemic) and they don't believe us when we tell them that most of the time our whole trip for 10 days costs less than a week at a beach in Maine or on the Cape in summer and is definitely less than a trip to Disney! I wish hotels here were as affordable as in Europe!!! Watching all these videos is makes me long to travel so so much!!!! Can't wait to get back to Europe soon!!!!

Absolutely agree with you, the accommodations are just a place to sleep.
On our honeymoon, we stayed in a £500 a night suite in Hakone, Japan, with a private thermal pool! I’d love to do it again some time but I think with luxury places like that it’s got to be for one night, then you go back to the budget hotels.

Waves travel huge distances, the local wind forecast for the day is no indicator of calm seas. Besides that, another very watchable video.

Agreed.. Everywhere is so quiet right now and it's actually one of the safest and easiest places to travel in Europe at the moment. And luckily, every place seems to have plenty of tasty veggie options! Italian food is the best 😋
Hey Beans, love the video and to answer your questions I would stay in a place with less nice accommodations to save some money and spend more money on doing and seeing things in that location and I would have done the same thing Alex did and get both burgers. The weird tentacle one and the yummy juicy dirty one.
Love you bro

We are huge fans of the channel! I think I've watched all your Italy vids 3-4 times. I have a question about driving in Puglia... how safe was your luggage(in your car) when you wandered down to the beach? Any driving tips? We are driving from Bari, down and around to Matera, and back to Bari over a period of 15 days.
Hi, just a tip Salento is not a secret at all, probabily you found it a little empty due the covid, but believe me usually is a famous summer destination, so from the end of july to the beginning of september could be really crowded especially in august, really really crowded, the pro is that have all that coastline you could find your spot but away from the beaches most "IN". About flamingoes you probabily already know but the color becomes less and lesser pink while they feed the babies
Once you see "My Octopus Teacher" you will never eat octopus again. Superb part of the world though, and another good episode.
I'd probably go for the octopus sandwich, not to many cows grazing on the beach there. I find it interesting that you both are able to travel during all that is COVID. I am an American isolating in a remote part of Ireland and loving it. Looking forward to your next video.

we do not have motels etc :O
The Puglia region is on my bucket list of places to visit in Italy. The dirty burger looks yummy 😋. I’m with you both as long as a place is clean I’d choose the cheaper place over expensive places to stay. My cousin , her husband and I shared a room for 3 days in Florence in 2019. We didn’t realize it was a shared room until we had already booked but in the end it was fine as we were only sleeping. Unless you plan on spending all your time in the room I don’t see the point in booking expensive rooms.
a octupus burger? that is criminal :D
The strength of wind and waves is probably related to the time of day you visit. Air will heat off the opposite land mass and be pushed across as the day warms up. Photos of a calm beach are probably taekn in the early morning or evening when the air is cooler. You get a similar effect on Tenerife with hot air blowing off the coast of Africa during the afternoon.
@gvisir

@stevo728822, Uhmm, yes and not, in summer day of high pressure could be flat as an oil surface, anyway could be also true what you describe, but the main issue is that Salento is exposed to the main winds during summer, Tramontana, Grecale, Scirocco, Levante, in fact the unofficial "motto" is "Salentu, lu sole , lu mare, lu ientu" "Salento il sole il mare il vento" "Salento the sun the sea the wind", so a good idea is to switch coast according the wind direction. If Adriatic is on the mood Ionian usually is calm and viceversa, there are guide online about what beach choose, but sometimes you have no chance.
Glad Alex got his bird fix! The pink ones are older and have eaten more of the algae that turns them pink.

The "burger" puccia is just a typical puccia, we put every kind of meat (and not just that, as you saw in the other video) in it and you can find it pretty easily everywhere, sometimes even at "paninari", places (typically in vans) that sell sandwiches at the side of the road. God you made me want a puccia now.
I'm Italian and I would devour both burgers you tried!
Hello guys! Lovely beaches, I think that because the weather is changing it is turning windy don't you think? And about the food, I wouldn't eat non of the things Alex is eating because I'm a vegan 😋. Beautiful places as always. Thank you guys. Se cuidan, adiós.

Emma, those roll up ear plugs would be ideal to keep water out of your ear. Do you know the ones? They are typically orange or green and you roll them into a long thin baguette shape (for want of a better word) stick them in and in 30 seconds, they've expanded to completely seal your ear. I reckon they'd be great for you.
@TravelBeans

Thanks John 👍 yes I usually travel with specific earplugs that I can use to snorkel and swim underwater but unfortunately I didn't have them with me on this trip. Those ones you're talking about would probably work well for splashes etc though, never thought of that. Thanks 😊
