2024 and still good advice. Your “baby” would be 7 or 8 now! My salad spinner got a little too close to heat so it buggered up the rim. I took a heat gun to it and molded it a bit and now it works. That drill bit is very difficult to get back into place but watching what you did certainly helped. Cheers from 🇨🇦

Thanks so much for the note! Yes indeed she is 8 now! Great to hear you were able to use the heat gun to fix yours up ... and extra cool to get comments from fellow Canadians!! Cheers!

Thanks for the video. I had figured out all the steps you mentioned up to a certain point....it was pressing down and spinning......but it just wouldn't pop back up after the press. I had tried stretching the spring for better pop-up. But you covered the missing link to my problem in the very last minute of the video.....I just needed to turn that top handle to the left after all the other steps. That made all the difference, and it works great again!

This was a fantastic tutorial. I have owned this spinner for the past 13 years and absolutely love it. It has has a problem with mold in the lid that I couldn't get rid of. I tried to soak in bleach but still didn't work. I was about to throw it out but I found this video and decided to give it a try. I did exactly as you did and was able to get the lid apart. I was then able to soak in bleach and scrub it. I followed your directions on putting it back together and my spinner is as good as new and completely mold free. Thank you so much for this tutorial. Maybe I can get another 13 years out of this guy lol.

Thanks Craig. I have a stainless steel model, but the same mechanism for the spinner part. It was getting grotty, and your video helped me get the innards apart and clean. I had to do it twice though, because of the 'lock' placement - and finally go it !

The stainless model only has two 'tabs' to pop, not 3 as in your video, but the mechanism and the process is the same. Quite the challenge to get it back together but it worked fine! thanks again.

Richard G. I have the stainless one and can’t figure out how to get it apart. Feels like I am going to break if. Did you take any photos? It would be awesome if I could see yours to see if it’s the same as mine. Mine is the latest version of the stainless...the center piece on the lid is all black.

  • @richard2sf

@@civilwheelier1 Getting it apart does feel like it's going to break, but it didn't when I did it. I used a flat screwdriver, like Craig uses, and wedged it under the black centerpiece and 'popped' it out, it has TWO little tabs that pop out. Then you can lift it apart. It cleaned up nicely (I was suprised at all the gunk around that black centerpiece). Getting it back together is also tricky (as Craig aptly demonstrates ;) ) You have to be sure to line up the 'cover lock' with the slot, and pop it back in -- I did not have to 'twist' it: it snapped back on, and works fine. Good luck and don't be afraid to pop it off.

Well done for persevering with this repair job. Our spinner ‘drill bit’ fouled the spring in the exact same way after an over - enthusiastic au pair tried to disassemble it without any idea how to do so. Great to be able to get continued use from an otherwise good product and avoid unnecessary additional plastic landfill. Thanks for sharing your video.

I purchased a used OXO salad spinner very similar to yours today at a restaurant going-out-of business sale where everything was 75% off. There was some mildew inside the lid 's spinning mechanism that could not easily be reached without taking the whole thing apart. After watching your video, I disassembled the spinner lid, cleaned it thoroughly, and have put it back together, no problem! Working great, and it's now perfectly clean. Not bad for the 60 cents I paid for it. Thanks, Craig!

Thank you so much for the video. I found that if you twist the truncated cone like bottom and the central black top knob counterclockwise you can then disassemble the spinner without any other tool. In my case there was some small piece of vegetable between the moving parts that I removed and the spinner started working fine.

You saved me from buying another one! I discovered that the inner clear sleeve has two open slots opposite where the white sliding lock is and once lined up with them... The "drill bit" went straight into its home and was spinning smoothly once again. Just a note : this baby is awesome for keeping sliced watermelon fresh longer since the juice goes below. Just drain the juice every other day.

It's still sitting in the trash bin outside and I have 5 days to go out and get it out before trash day!! lol Actually, it's the SECOND machine I've had as the first one I bought after about 6 mos would NOT shut down and pumped out ALL the water in reservoir and it went all over my counter!!! lol So they sent me this replacement and IT lasted about 6 mos. The plastic outside of my craptastic salad spinner now has a vertical crack after using it three times. Do you have any ideas on a safe way of fixing it ? Doesn’t have to look good, I just don’t want it to leak. :)

Oh wow, only 3 uses?? I'd be emailing OXO. I've had to message them about a few other products of theirs that we have and the customer support was quite good. They replaced the stuff in each case. So I'd do that first before trying to repair since it's so new, but if you still decide to try and fix it ... what piece do you mean? Like the outer bowl? If you just want to keep it from leaking then maybe some gorilla / crazy glue?? Not sure how well it would hold ... there's a lot of pressure on that bowl I'm guessing when the basket is spinning since it's being pushed down on .. but might work. Good luck! And let us know how it goes!
