@@theodore6548 There are a dozen or so OXO that I have and like, but two come to memory as being less than acceptable for me. First, I’m not a fan of their squeeze bottles. I found better ones that have a flexible opening where the occasional chunky substance in the sauce doesn’t jam the whole thing up. The worst one was their gravy fat separator. Over a short time the seal at the bottom became less and less effective. I used to have to let it sit over a bowl so it wouldn’t leak on the counter. Ultimately I just threw it away because the leakage continued to get worse and worse. This was a recommended product from ATK also.

I use centrifugal force physics, too -- place the produce into a clean cloth drawstring bag, close the bag and twirl the bag vigorously and vertically like a high speed ferris wheel; empty dried produce. All excess water will be caught by the fabric to be washed with the daily used dish towels. Can't break, is almost free, and does not take up valuable shelf real estate, just fits folded into the drawer with the dish towels.

Get a tight weave fabric at the fabric store, or upcycle [from your closet or a 2nd hand store - a t-shirt, a thin denim or chambray 100% cotton, or repurpose those stained but otherwise intact all-cotton dish drying towels -- just join couple of smaller ones or fold in half a large one -- and create your own crisper/spinner bag. Love me some Test Kitchen comparative testing but the thing these nearly ALWAYS leave it out is how the product will wear over time.... I wish there was a better metric for durability in these because that's the been the weak link almost every time that I've made purchase based on these recommendations... They invariably perform *great*, just as ATK says, until they break and then don't perform at all. Not just salad spinners (which is why I'm here viewing today) but for nearly everything product they feature/compare.

I hate my salad spinner, but what it does have that these do not and I like, are slats on the bowl so the water runs off the greens in the spinner, into the bowl and out the bottom of the bowl into my sink. I bought this based on ATK's recommendation and am beyond disappointed. This spinner most definitely does not "get all the liquid off". No spinner can get every last drop of water off that's a foolhardy claim to make but this one spins noticeably slower than the crank or pull cord spinners. That's because pushing the plunger quicker or harder does not make it spin faster and faster. There's a limit to how fast it will spin and I find it inadequate. It's like a medium speed. It always left a fair amount of water on my greens. I returned it.

I'm surprised you didn't discuss or grade how easy the devices might be cleaned. We've been using a pull cord model for many years and while it does a fine job with excellent capacity the braided synthetic cord always has the potential to retain dirt - forcing us to occassionally dunk the lid in a mild bleach solution and always dry the lid with cord extended. Just an extra step but necessary. How difficult is it to clean the lids of other devices? It looks as though several cannot be easily inspected for dirt or mold - how easily do the mechanisms thoroughly dry?

You don’t mention whether the redesign of the Oxo is better or worse than the previous model. It seems like the smaller base, due to the rounded shape, might make it less sturdy. BUT they used to come with a well fitting storage lid so you don’t have condensation getting in the spinning mechanism as it does now if you use it for storage in the fridge. Best of all 😡 OXO make an “11 inch” silicone lid that might be perfect for the job but it is only 10.75 inches approximately the same size as the spinner bowl so no room for lid sag and still maintaining a good seal.

I get my houseboy to gently squeeze my salad while flailing his arms and spinning around as fast as he can. It works amazingly well, and it's one less kitchen gadget I need.

I bought the OXO and it just doesn't spin fast enough. It's the worst spinner I ever bought. It's the same problem with other spinners of the same type. I prefer spinners with a good gear ratio so you can make them spin faster.

I have had an OXO spinner for a few years. In your review, said it was redesigned; not stating what (if anything) was improved. My previous one spun much faster than my OXO, but was worn out. Have another which is smaller with spin cord; works great, but too small. Sister in law has large one with a lever; works great, very fast, but never see one for sale. If the redesigned OXO is faster spinning, I would like to know. For now, I'm still looking......

I just bought an OXO and I'm very disappointed. It does not dry the lettuce. My old cheap dinosaur no-name crank type that I'm replacing did a much better job. I just wanted something easier to use, at my old age. Returning this to try another brand.

Oxo isnt perfect. If you get greens in that low hanging thingy it can mold and taking it apart is not easy. In fact, there is that same spinner in my cabinet right now that i took a part and have no idea how to put it back together because it is HARRRRD to do so.

When you are going to rotate your salad spinner, sit down, and put your arm knee on the table, and hold force on it so it doesn't move by laying down your arm on it, and then hold it.

They love oxo, I hate it. They don't care about water accumulating in areas in their products and causing mold. Case in point, the stem of this salad spinner. The top plate can easily be removed for washing, but water stays in the stem. I washed mine day before yesterday, and I'm still shaking water out of it. I guess I'm just supposed to spray mold all over my salad -- mmmm, boy!
