Sako 90 vs 85: what’s the difference?

Спорт

Sako rifles have always been known for their quality. Robin Shedden of Cluny Country Guns fondly remembers his Sako 75, which would put bullets into a thumbnail sized group at 180 yards every time. “With the 85 they made various changes, doing away with the locking bolt and locking the magazine in. From the 85 to the 90 it’s the same idea: evolution." There are various small but significant changes, but, says Robin, "you’re buying the same top Sako quality. They are top quality rifles in all their guises.”

No mention of the now cheaper, two piece bolt like the tikka, or the loss of semi controlled round feed or the loss of a fixed ejector which would drop the case in your hand or fling it across the room if you needed it. They seem to make insignificant changes with a large price increase.

You couldn't have said it better. They screw around with designs, way to much. Thankfully a basic Tikka doesn't have all these issues. Simplicity, is the key. Make one thing, and make it well.

Agree 100%. I love my Sako 85 Black Bear .30-06. I have an Aimpoint T-2 in a Henneberger mount on it. Couldn't ask for a finer rifle. And the price was somehwat reasonable. It looks like the price for the 90s is many hundred more than the 85s.

@10glocks40 I just wish the Basic Known MFG , would Quit Screwing around, Trying to reinvent the Wheel, and Just make a Decent Rifle. Remington 700, is an absolute Disaster, what they did to it. Tikkas are very good, fir those who can't afford a Sako Rifle.

Sako is a premium rifle maker. CVA Cascade is my choice as the features like cerakote picatinny rail and three lug bolt head and barrel twist advantage.

Great to hear that manufacturers are changing the twist rate for copper and similar bullets. I hope they have a 7mm-08 or 280AI type or similar with 1:7 twist ❤

Shut up and pay 😂 ... priceless. Great review thanks. For me, the gap I am filling is a solid hitting 300 yard hunting rifle for packing ... I'd love the varmint but I'll get a lightened synthetic stock ... its a hunting rifle. I have a 6.5 Tikka varmint for PRS. Sako and I have arrived at a sweet spot. Again great review thank you so much.

Will sako 90 rifles fit in Sako 85 stocks? for instance a GRS stock for a Sako 85?

Sako, LOL "Updating" their rifles with a picatinny rail, and an adjustable trigger, that Savage did in the 90's and charging tomorrows prices. What a joke.
