Sako 90 launch: first hunt, first moose

Спорт

Paul Childerley thinks he has been invited across to Sako's HQ in Finland to hunt moose and whitetail, but there's a surprise in store. He's testing and hunting with the all new Sako 90 rifle in .308. Before the hunt he spends a day on the range with journalists from across Europe where he revisits his close-up encounter with a Mozambique buffalo with a .375 speed test. He then strikes lucky in the field with a moose cow and whitetail doe, both taken with a fresh-off-the-production-line carbon-stocked Sako 90.

Why do we support trophy hunting?
Hunting tourism is at the forefront of wildlife conservation. People going abroad to hunt are what pays for conservation, the world over. Species that hunters have brought back from the brink of extinction include the bontebok and the markhor goat.
The modern problem for trophy hunting began with the Cecil The Lion story in 2015, when a US hunting tourist called Walter Palmer shot a lion in Zimbabwe. The animal rights lobby successfully presented it as an animal called 'Cecil', claiming it was popular with tourists. Most of the money they raised from the Cecil incident paid for lobbying, not conservation. Worldwide government actions following the incident led to some of the biggest and most tragic wildlife slaughters ever seen in Africa. As trophy bans fell into place, wildlife poaching boomed.
By the beginning of 2018, a kneejerk US trophy import ban on Tanzanian elephant and lion trophies was beginning to have real - and potentially devastating - consequences, including the loss of decades of successful nature conservation. Happily, the US reversed that decision.
When it comes to wildlife, there are two kinds of African countries: wildlife winners, which allow hunting and have healthy populations of wildlife; and wildlife losers, where hunting is banned. It is no coincidence that the last northern white rhino died in Kenya, an anti-hunting country.

I have a lovely Sako AV long action .270w left hand, made in 79 but bought in 1990. It’s wood and blued steel. A few years back I wanted a synthetic Sako .308 L/H, but didn’t want the carbon light. Rightly or wrongly I didn’t trust the stock. I bought a Sauer in the end and was disappointed with the easily breakable plastic magazine base, although accuracy is good. I love the Sako steel mags, but also find the floor plate on the .270 extremely practical and no complaints. With just a few years difference I probably would have ended up with a 4th Sako if these new rifles come in L/H. Good shooting Paul, and modest with it!

Does anybody know if the recoil lug is solid fixed type like the 75 and older or is it floating type like 85 and Tikka T3? It appears the safety is a return to the type in 75 that is actually locking the firing pin.

What is the point of the sako90 when they have the s20 and the sako100? They should redevelop the sako finnwolf! Perfect for dog handlers and driven hunts. Especially if they do it with the switchbarrel system from the 100...

Incremental improvements, Sako finnwolf was one of the biggest commersial failures of the company, expensive rifle to manufacture which transfered to the retail price and the main market of the leverguns US weren't intrested of foreing levergun which weren't eaven based on John Moses Brownings design's after all moust people who buy leverguns do so because of The leverguns history and myth in US it's The American gun with the ar-15 now days

Why don't they just bring back the 75 or the 591/691? Both were better than the current offerings. Same with Tikka, 595/695. They've spent a lot of money developing poorer rifles and then charge us more

Oh no, you will not get any reply from anyone, ref anything bad about Sako. These films are getting so thick and fast with new and better versions, we should rush out and buy buy buy. At least it'll keep all the big boys well-fed with new equipment and hunting opertunities.

Quality control seemed to have stopped right after the logo placement. I have never regreted buying a gun as much as buying my finnlight II. I guess some legends do not live forever. I am done with GUCCI guns, Bergara and Glock thats it.
