It's sort of sadly ironic that Sakamoto dreamed of a modern Japan that followed the principles of American-style liberalism but his actions basically laid the groundwork for the Meiji Restoration, which did serve to modernize and reform Japan but also gave incredible power to the emperor, ultimately leading to the country being under a dictatorship by the Showa era.

Sengoku jidai uses a lot of gunpowder. An arquebus is pretty simple in design, you need to make a smooth tube, put smaller holes where the match connects and put it in a wooden fitting. The armies of sengoku jidai will start using them on an early modern period scale. Thousands of gunners blasting away is nothing strange. Swords are something you can comfortably walk around with in civilian life. I can walk inside a shop or sit down with the sword on a bench and eat. I can't do that with a polearm or other battlefield weapons like an arquebus. Same with armour, people don't walk around with laquer, wood and metal on them. The shogunate government has worked to limit the amount of armed bands wandering about, limiting who can walk around with weapons including guns.

There's a manga I really recommend that's called Jin, it tells the story of a modern era japanese doctor who travels back in time to the 1800's japan. He seed himself caught in all the political turmoil of the era, and even befriends Sakamoto (who's a main character). I think it's a really fun way of learning japanese history, the Satsuma-Choshou alliance and their battle against the shogun it's a major element of one of the narrative arcs of the series.

Its about a young woman, daughter of a modern farmer/agricultural researcher that gets yeeted to sengoku era japan, and influences politics by revolutionising farming.

Just a small correction, Choshu and Satsuma are not the names of clans but rather that of the domains of which the Mori and Shimazu clan ruled respectively. Both clans were very famous in the Sengoku Jidai period and were treated as outcast daimyo after they were defeated by Tokugawa Ieyasu.

Just one small thing I'd like to correct (great video though by the way) The clans were the Shimazu and Mōri, with Satsuma and Chōshū being the names of the domains they ruled over. A fun fact about the Shimazu is that the 15th head of the clan, Takehisa, was the first daimyo to ever utilise firearms in his own and his army's arsenal, and the clan conquered the entirety of Kyushu prior to battling the Toyotomi. As for the Mōri, one of their heads was a naval genius, and even won one battle due to the help of *pirates*

Well here’s something for you, the Japanese rarely used katanas, katanas are pretty crappy weapons, there is another longer version of the katana which has a dull backside which was the cavalry equivalent of the Japanese secondary weapon, Japanese soldiers were horse archers primarily, they used spears as primary foot weapons, they used shields during the age where the Dutch gave them guns in the form of immovable planks posted into the ground, and japan ripped off its language from China So you don’t embarrass yourself if you get into a conversation about Japanese history
