In an exclusive interview with MOJO Story, Sajad Lone, President of the People’s Conference spoke on Kashmir's evolving political landscape while campaigning in the Baramulla segment.
Lone emphasized the significance of this election, marking the first since the contentious revocation of Article 370. He underscored the pivotal nature of this electoral contest, labeling it as the most crucial since 1947.
Advocating for a fresh narrative in Kashmiri politics, Lone stressed the need for a new and distinct voice to represent the aspirations of the people. He questioned the dominance of the National Conference (NC), which has historically held sway over the Baramulla constituency.
With the revocation of Article 370 and the loss of statehood, Lone pointed out at the absence of accountability, questioning who bears responsibility for the shifts in the region's political landscape.
He said despite its revocation, Article 370 remains a potent and emotive issue for Kashmiris. Lone asserted that the article's significance will endure, highlighting the deep-rooted sense of dignity and identity it embodies for the people of Kashmir.
Responding to allegations of proxyism, Lone vehemently denied such claims, asserting his party's commitment to representing the genuine aspirations of Kashmiris.
Lone said Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is a Hindutva-based right-wing ideological party. While acknowledging the uncertainty surrounding the fate of Article 370, Lone expressed skepticism regarding its reinstatement in the near future and suggested that only future generations committed to federalism may pave the way for its revival.
