It had a lot to due with it was the turn of the era for animation. There are like 7 other anime for saiyuki at this point now as well as movies and all of them have amazing animation. Its to bad the first series suffered this but animation wasn't up to snuff at that point. Especially since this was one of Perriots earlier projects.

Seiten Taisei looks so cool! Goku really is one powerful dude!

I remember finding this clip, being completely confused on why his name was Goku, and they even called him a monkey.... like a popular character we all know. Goku from the Dragon Ball series. But, now I understand why. Both characters are based off a character "Sun Wukong" which in Japanese, is translated as "Son Goku". Based from the series "Journey to The West" about a monkey named Sun Wukong who has to guide a monk to the west while keeping him protected. Along with him is a shape-shifting Pig named Pigsty, and a sand demon named Sandy. That's where Dragon Ball got Goku, Bulma, Oolong, and Yamcha from. Goku's Power Pole and Flying Nimbus came from that tale as well. There are several things out there inspired from the tale. There's more to what I said. But it's cool to see how certain shows grew popular based from the tale.

They did:) Saiyuki Gaiden is three OVA episodes that show goku's past along with random episodes of his past in gensomaden, which shows that happy moments. Gaiden, not so much. Then there is Saiyuki Burial, which focues somewhat on there past, but it's kind of tied into there meeting.

I think the animation is very good.

First DB is a bit acceptable as an adaptation of the novel but we all know it went far from that. Saiyuki is still better to be called as an adaptation of Journey to the West so farrrrr when it comes to anime and manga (that I know of)

Shinoa Yuki I'd argue you haven't seen Digimon if you watch the US version. They cut out all the deep drama the children were going through. Japanese version is the only way to watch it for me.
