    I don't think trading AK would require additional cap space. A post June 1 trade would net the Saints about 11.7M in freed up cap space according to over the cap. He hasn't earned a new contract, but it is also intriguing what he might be able to do in this offense. Not sure what the maneuvering with Taysom is about, but any freed up unused cap space can be rolled over to next year, I believe.

    I think one time the Dallas LB speared Alvin and it wasn't called. I think it was Jaylon Smith on a Thursday night game. Only time where I got worried about him as far as taking a hit. If I remember right, it left him woozy. 2018 I think it was.

    AK is doing what he can to NOT have a last year of contract "prove it" year like MOST players in the league get into. Most players, in their last year of a contract, play better to boost their value going into FA. He doesn't want to have to do that with the current unknowns/question marks around this offense.

    Listening to DA talk about AK at the last week last year when Kamara didn’t play, seems to me DA doesn’t really care if Kamara plays or not!

    I think that’s a fair observation. In a reality where Kendre plays 14-plus games and looks like he did in Week 18 more consistently and the “Kamara wants a new contract” conversation sounds A LOT different.

    I’m concerned with the new kick off rule, you dismissed it, but week 1, if Blake Grupe has to try to make a tackle on the kickoff and he gets injured attempting it, because he’s the size of a tall dwarf(no offense) then it’s going to be a big deal when they have to try to find a new kicker for week 2. If they go with Grupe at kicker, do we know if Hedley has the ability to kick off? I’d feel a lot more comfortable if Hedley 6’4” 220lbs has to attempt to make a tackle on someone, that at the very least, he won’t get injured, compared to 5’7” 157lbs Blake Grupe! Has anyone ever played in the NFL an attempted to tackle someone at that size? I bet the answer is no.

    @@WWLsports No offense, but my question was, “Does Lou Hedley have the ability to Kick off?” I’m worried Grupe won’t survive a tackle ATTEMPT, he’s 157lbs. When the Colts drafted Pat McAfee as their Punter, they also had him kick off, because he was pretty good at it & they didn’t have to risk Adam Vinatieri who was old, getting injured covering a kick.

    AK has leverage, but so do the Saints. They can play hardball and just let him sit out the next 2 years if they want to go that far. Spoiler alert: he ain't sitting out the season if it's gonna cost him 10.2M in base salary.

  • @WWLsports

    @WWLsports

    Ай бұрын

    I don’t think this team is really in position to play hardball tho. Blowing up team chemistry over star contracts is tough at any point, it’s particularly difficult in a year where you’re installing a new offensive system with a head coach on the hot seat … and said player is integral to that plan. The leverage is only if you’re OK with a 5-win season and not firing the head coach, because doing what you’re suggesting would be setting it up to fail.

    @@WWLsports The problem is it's such a difficult evaluation. You can kind of look at 2024 as a 1-year prove it type deal with Kamara. The stats say cut him or demand a pay cut for 2024, but the film says maybe those elite athletic traits are still there. The blocking was bad, for sure, and so was the coaching. So, the question for the Saints to answer is, how much are you willing to commit to just to see how he's going to perform in the new system behind the new offensive line, both of whom are also unknowns.

  • @WWLsports

    @WWLsports

    Ай бұрын

    @@mwganson I agree, for sure. But there’s no replacement-level guy for this offense. That’s the biggest issue. If you play hardball and say we’ll go in without him, that changes the outlook so much.

    I remember Alvin Kamara always tiptoeing out of bounds. And no I don't see that as a smart guy preserving himself. I see that as a modern selfish player who limits how much he'll do for the team. I don't remember any of the greatest rbs in league history making "business decisions." Kamara sure makes them though, several times a game. Leaders don't do like Kamara! Guys with integrity don't do like Kamara! Players with heart don't do like Kamara! McCaffrey doesn't do like Kamara and Kamara isn't nearly the player that McCaffrey is! That's a fact! Fans need to start expecting more from these filthy rich, entitled... Nowak, you're such a fanboy, kissing asses.

    Awful take. But hey, if you want 6 good weeks of a player and 10 weeks of torn ligaments trying to make it 2nd and 3 instead of 2nd and 4, go for it. CMC has started doing that since his injury seasons, too. That’s how you survive an NFL season at RB.

    Saints continue to bleed financially and give another deal to someone production is down and getting older is screaming at you don't do it. Kicking the can on Taysom was frustrating and now AK is complaining for new deal just seems like another overpaying a veteran that is on backend of his career. Longest run last 2 yrs 27 yrs never had 1k season and missed games. Between all bad draft picks, bad contracts that can't traded it's hard to watch.

    The Taysom restructure makes sense if you're planning to keep him beyond this season. As far as Kamara, it's tough. I don't have an issue with a deal that basically extends his contract out an extra season while guaranteeing a majority of what you owe him already, plus some incentives on the back end ... anything more than that is tough to justify.

    Alvin trying to catch some of that lawsuit money back 😂 look AK has always been one of my favorite players and he’s always done the right things but he has kinda showed his a** since Sean left, the saints are paying him more money then most teams would be willing to pay him at this point in his career especially at the RB position, I’m guessing somebody has tampered with him or he just doesn’t like DA idk , I’m not sure where he lives in the offseason maybe he wants to play closer to home for family sake idk but whatever the reason it’s a distraction and it’s not good for the locker room, He’s either gotta get his mind right or he’s gotta go, he’s always been a good locker room guy and that’s important more than ever right now, they can either be a good teammate or trade him, it’s a tuff situation for the saints because of his age and contract but they can’t have him in the locker room acting the donkey, SP let stuff slide Trying to win another one for Mr Benson before he passed and it backfired on him, can’t have distractions, I don’t know what’s going on i haven’t been paying close attention but it’s a bad look
