Saint Paul Minnesota History and Cartography (1867)

Saint Paul Minnesota history and cartography is explored and examined from this vintage map that was originally produced in 1867. In the video we zoom in and look at various historical aspects that make this map so great! The map itself is a birds-eye perspective map in that we get to see a 3d representation of the city of St. Paul in which we see building architecture, changes in elevation, vegetation, street names and much more.

A search for 'first city hall in St Paul MN' found that it was located where the post office is now. That would be at Third St (Kellogg Blvd) and Jackson ... about 4 blocks east of the Wabasha St bridge (shown).

Perhaps consider preparing before you record the video by printing out the key so you can refer to it without whipping us back and forth making us sea sick.

I live on the old Market House property (which was later the St Francis Hotel) and went to school on the same plot of land that was the state Capitol when this map was drawn (burned down in later years). Very cool to see this. I also work right on the land where that City Park is located, which is now Mears Park!

What’s your showing is as number two is the current courthouse there at that time. That is the Lowery block directly east of it would be the new block that the courthouse is on bounded by fourth and third on Wabasha.

The church on 6th and st. Peter is the original location of the St. Paul Cathedral whichnow is the Hamm Building. Across is the Landmark Center what was known as City Hall on 6th street. I'm not sure when the Landmark center was built but I know it was the court house.

Pretty sure you're right about the courthouse. The Landmark Center is there now but it was originally built as a courthouse in 1892.

The landmark Center does not sit there. That is the Lowery block between fourth and fifth Wabasha and Saint Peter the current courthouse sits directly east of that on that block bounded by Wabasha Saint Peter fourth Street and Kellogg, third Street, at that time

I would’ve liked this better if you would’ve been prepared obviously, you have no clue what’s going on in Saint Paul or where anything as I was born and raised there and I worked in City Hall for nine years. I left you a comment about where you’re supposed to be very poorly prepared.
