@Joel D ~ Greavsie was quick and able to go past defenders as if they weren't there. Could you imagine him playing today at his peak. Forget his 30 - 40 goals a season. It would be more like 50+ The balls are now much lighter. Modern boots are like wearing Hush Puppies, they're so light. Pitches are now pristine. When Greavsie played even top grounds ended up being mud baths. The modern game would give him an extra yard or more of pace. Seeing as he was quick anyway, he'd become unstoppable.

I’m trying to work out when this is. They talk about Cafu’s 4th World Cup-which would make it as late as 2006. Cafu’s debut was in 1990 after Italia 90 so possibly they are confused, but this would still make it as late as 2002. Had no idea they were still on tv at this point. Wikipedia says the programme finished in 1992.

RIP Saint and Greavsie. Enjoyed their TV programme in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Sadly this was lost when football sold out to Sky and the Premier League. But that is a different story................ As for their "All-Time Best XI" it lacks one thing, a defensive / box-to-box midfield player. In the 1980s this role was fulfilled by Bryan Robson. Nowadays N'Golo Kante is the man for this job.

Not so sure . I love Clough but I think that he was much better at managing up and coming players but struggled a bit with players already at the very top . I’m not sure his style of man management was suited to elite world class players . Maybe he could have adapted in time but I don’t think he would have wanted to . It was either do things his way or get out of the team . A lot of the names mentioned here definitely would not have put up with that .

I think at one point even Pele said that Greaves was the best striker on the planet after him . Greaves was an awesome goal scoring machine . Every defender in the world dreaded playing against him .

Saint and Greavsie together again.
Jimmy Greaves what a humble gentleman, England finest goal striker would walk into any world xi. RiP 😎
RIP greavise
Great stuff 👌
Bloody legends
I remember watching this at the time, probably around 1998 World Cup time, loved these guys on TV, not bad strikers either 🙏

God, I loved this show.....simpler times.
There are so many combos of players these 2 legends could choose from.
Soo good together 👏👏👏👏
2 special lads saint and Jimmy
God bless them both.
Greavsie was my idol at school i had his name all over my school books and satchel ..I used to occasionally get bullied at school I was the only Spurs fan there because I live in the North West . we thumped Burnley and I got a hiding but it was worth it !
“Would they beat MK Dons”? 😂
My childhood. RIP gents!!
Brilliant
Amazing team. How would it change if made today?
Great team. 2 defenders and all the rest attacking
What was this from?
I wonder who they would pick today? Not sure it would change to massively.
marco van basten, he's got 3 names😂😂
RIP Saint and Greavsie. Enjoyed their TV programme in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Sadly this was lost when football sold out to Sky and the Premier League. But that is a different story................ As for their "All-Time Best XI" it lacks one thing, a defensive / box-to-box midfield player. In the 1980s this role was fulfilled by Bryan Robson. Nowadays N'Golo Kante is the man for this job.
This was a podcast before podcasts were podcasts….
They were memories of Saturday afternoon
JG regarding Roberto Carlos, I couldn't agree more. Maradonna, totally correct.
When was this filmed?
Marco van basten. That's three names. 😂😂😂😂😂
RIP Saint 😇
What team would they pick to play against them in a WC final?
Ian st John RIP 😢

Brian Clough the Manager

Not so sure . I love Clough but I think that he was much better at managing up and coming players but struggled a bit with players already at the very top . I’m not sure his style of man management was suited to elite world class players . Maybe he could have adapted in time but I don’t think he would have wanted to . It was either do things his way or get out of the team . A lot of the names mentioned here definitely would not have put up with that .

Jack Charlton. They didn't ask him as they knew he'd stand no mucking about. Look what he did with Eire.
Ian St John - "You want a Brazilian in there, what about a Scottish full-back?"

Brazil were known for being naive defensively.
That's some side they put together. Would only be improved by having either of them up front...
when was this filmed ?

They’re talking about it being Cafu’s 4th World Cup so it must have been before the 2006 WC
An impossible task. Only by breaking it down into decades could you possibly do a World's greatest X1. Was good fun though seeing these two together. I miss Greavsie on the telly
What did he mean by ‘used to smile too much’?
RIP Greavesie
