George Best was the greatest player I've ever seen. These 2 played in the same era as him. They both knew how good he was.

RIP to the pair of ya...you were part of my childhood growing up in the 1980s..

Saint and Greavsie were such a great combination and complement to each other.

Proper players and people, the pair of them. Relaxed, funny yet good picks. Jimmy would be in any side with Best but he’s too modest to pick himself. Glad Ian said it for him

That team would have scored so many goals, and absolutely controlled the midfield that they wouldn't have been too worried about the defence. But what a defence they had sitting in front of Banksie. I'm fortunate that I saw many of these footballers play when I was a child. Greavsie in my opinion was England's greatest goal scorer.

Real happy days. That was when football punditry was very watchable and great fun. Not like today when it gets really boring as they try to get so technical and basically are spouting rubbish!!!! RIP both Saint and Greavsie you were two very special blokes.

RlP Saint and Greavsie....My childhood memories of football

Magical listening to those two greats. Very sad they both passed away this year. Many special memories of them as players and broadcasters. Thoughts are with their families.

I can picture these two doing this up there now. Great characters, great memories. ❤

Loved these as a kid , did not see this episode , I think they spot on with the choice but so may great players to choose from

Those were the days. Now we have to put up with Karen Carney!

The irony here - Jimmy Greaves is the greatest British striker by a country mile. Saint wasn’t joking about including him.

I think at one point even Pele said that Greaves was the best striker on the planet after him . Greaves was an awesome goal scoring machine . Every defender in the world dreaded playing against him .

@Joel D ~ Greavsie was quick and able to go past defenders as if they weren't there. Could you imagine him playing today at his peak. Forget his 30 - 40 goals a season. It would be more like 50+ The balls are now much lighter. Modern boots are like wearing Hush Puppies, they're so light. Pitches are now pristine. When Greavsie played even top grounds ended up being mud baths. The modern game would give him an extra yard or more of pace. Seeing as he was quick anyway, he'd become unstoppable.

I’m trying to work out when this is. They talk about Cafu’s 4th World Cup-which would make it as late as 2006. Cafu’s debut was in 1990 after Italia 90 so possibly they are confused, but this would still make it as late as 2002. Had no idea they were still on tv at this point. Wikipedia says the programme finished in 1992.

God, I loved this show.....simpler times.

There are so many combos of players these 2 legends could choose from.

Greavsie was my idol at school i had his name all over my school books and satchel ..I used to occasionally get bullied at school I was the only Spurs fan there because I live in the North West . we thumped Burnley and I got a hiding but it was worth it !

RIP Saint and Greavsie. Enjoyed their TV programme in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Sadly this was lost when football sold out to Sky and the Premier League. But that is a different story................ As for their "All-Time Best XI" it lacks one thing, a defensive / box-to-box midfield player. In the 1980s this role was fulfilled by Bryan Robson. Nowadays N'Golo Kante is the man for this job.

Not so sure . I love Clough but I think that he was much better at managing up and coming players but struggled a bit with players already at the very top . I’m not sure his style of man management was suited to elite world class players . Maybe he could have adapted in time but I don’t think he would have wanted to . It was either do things his way or get out of the team . A lot of the names mentioned here definitely would not have put up with that .

An impossible task. Only by breaking it down into decades could you possibly do a World's greatest X1. Was good fun though seeing these two together. I miss Greavsie on the telly
