Sailmakers Marlinspike - Making of...

I found some vintage Swedish military marlinspikes but was not content with the design. So I re-designed one and here is how I did it.
This example is now for sale on auction at my business FB M Snellman Ropeworks.
If you don´t use Facebook, email me your high bid to info (at) snellman (dot) ax
Auction ends 04/12 at 21.00 Helsinki time (UTC +2)

This really took me back, I was in the U.S. Coast Guard about 50 years ago, we called it ‘fancywork’ and put it on such things as the ship’s wheel, heaving line monkey’s fists, and gangplank hand-lines with all decorative knots or in stitched sleeves of canvas with Turk’s Heads on each end [often then painted for durability]. Our belt knives typically had short knot work lanyards, or thumb loops, to assist drawing the knife out of our sheaths; this was often done ~50 or 100 times a day depending on the task so anything to ease the action was useful.
Какая хорошая работа! Мы вместе отлично провели время. 😊 Привет из СИБИРИ.

A very fine piece of art! May I ask you if copper does not oxidize itself, especially being in contact with the skin of the hand? Does it not turn to green? I would have thought that brass could maybe be better from this pointing of view, but of course these are only my thoughts, never actually tried one for real...

Brass is also a copper alloy and there is no big difference in how they receive patina.
What a beautiful piece of tool art! Do you sell any of your pieces?

I love your works, but you could make it from scratch . I think you don’t need of the tool full of rust to start the creation….

I do make majority of the tools from scratch. That is not too interesting to watch though.
