    Fun to see this! I used to sail (motor mostly) from Dana Point to Catalina on my Catalina 30 back in the late 70s, early 80s. Great times!

    Dana Point is downwind in prevailing wind conditions from Catalina Island. Long Beach is the best to reach fore and back to the island

    The blue whale sighting was awesome! I normally head to Two Harbors. Can you tell me if there are mooring fees for Moonstone Beach?

  • @JoshPostVlogs

    @JoshPostVlogs

    Жыл бұрын

    Good day. Yes, mooring fees. That’s what I forgot to mention in the video. My experience is that pretty much any place with moorings is approx $50 per night. They have good deals in the off season though like buy 2 nights get 5 nights free, but only in off season.

    You might want to have the sail cover off before leaving the mooring in case your motor quits in harbor.

    "Catalina whine mixer" (Will Ferrell)....Excellent work Josh! My only issue was that is should have been longer. Great shots and music - I really appreciate how you detailed the sailing event and how the mooring balls worked - pretty cool stuff. 😀

    Seeing that whale, I would've grabbed my mask, snorkel & fins and jumped overboard not forgetting the GoPro! Noticed, your boat has no boom vang?? Will sure help to trim the mainsail better and get that flying boom down!

    Hi, Josh! I enjoyed watching your trip to Catalina! Not sure if you remember that I sold Peregrine Spirit and moved to Arizona several years ago. Your new boat looks like a fine sailing vessel. Couldn't help but notice that the pelican hook on the life-line gate was open in the last scene. :) All my best to you, Josh. Keep sailing!

    Please do your best to reach John Depp or those who can bring this to his attention. After I watched this most excellent interview, I had the strongest feeling someone should bring all this to the attention of John Depp for him to produce and direct using all the real-life people who touched souls in this most lovely story of this novice sailor finding and resucing this women from the sea. Please make this happen. I am in Temple Texas and all of this has sooo touched my soul. What most wonderful of telling this one. Thank you for your excellent instincts, interviewing and soul "savvyness". I am your follower now excited to have this landlocked person taken off on adventures by you! mo green

    How do the mooring balls work? How much too tie up ?

  • @JoshPostVlogs

    @JoshPostVlogs

    Жыл бұрын

    I forgot to mention that. Around $50 per night. In the smaller coves, you can usually just go tie up without alerting anyone and a little boat will come around from harbor dept. at some point to collect the money. In the two larger areas (Avalon and Two Harbors), you have to make radio contact with the harbor folks upon arrival and they will tell you a certain number of ball to go to.

    Just returned from a week in Two Harbors yesterday. Great time. So much easier from Newport, Two Harbors is 100 nm from San Diego, makes for a long day. SDYC has an outpost at Moonstone, did you get to the bar?

  • @JoshPostVlogs

    @JoshPostVlogs

    Very cool! We went into the SDYC area where they have the BBQ grills and ping pong. It was a Sunday night so no one really there and no bar happening. Still a nice time and fun to see that area. No cell phone coverage at Whites / Moonstone so definitely off grid.

    You mean the boat from my “How to Sail” video? That was a fun boat. A Capri 25. I had that when I lived in Annapolis in 2017. I have since then owned 3 different boats. The current boat I own is in this video about going to Catalina. It’s an old 1965 Cheoy Lee 35.

    Love Catalina, but the mooring rates for my 43 foot sailboat are piracy!! Biggest compliant is that the mooring fields have completely filled in all the best places, forcing those who anchor way out into deep water. The powers that be should remove at least half of those damn things and stop being so greedy

  • @JoshPostVlogs

    @JoshPostVlogs

    9 ай бұрын

    I agree completely. I don’t want to anchor in the deep. I prefer a mooring but they are WAY too expensive. They should be half the price per night or around $25 per night. Even in the Bahamas where everything is highway robbery, the moorings are only like $20 per night.
