Punch List: Definition: A list of "usually” minor tasks to be completed at the end of a project. On a boat, this list can continue on forever, with the first project possibly needing attention again by the time you finish the last, continuing on in a vicious circle. This has held some sailors back from setting off cruising at all. For me, its easy to become obsessed with starting and finishing items on a list. I LOVE projects. Improving, upgrading, maintaining….I love solving problems and learning about how everything works because thats how I will fix it when it breaks. BUT, some things can just wait, and theres a point where you have to say enough is enough, lets go have an adventure and see what works, and what breaks. So get ready to tackle the punch list with us before we untie the lines and hit the ocean for our FIRST Boundless adventure.
After deeming everything necessary done, sometimes you just have to go. Even if the sideways rain and ominous clouds make the beginning of this adventure feel more scary than exciting. Our last stop was the fuel dock to top up on diesel and Darryl the dock master at Shelter Bay rode his bike from our dock to the fuel dock to give us a hand. I think he could feel it too. Our nerves were palpable and although we were excited, the squalls around us and the feeling of being alone out on the ocean, even if it was just a small hop down the coast, made us feel VERY small. It was like we were doing this for the very first time. Forget any of the experience we had on Seawind or on any boat, our emotions got the better of us as we lined up with the channel, and felt the swell starting to push the boat around.
Change is hard, and we have had a lot of change this year. But the foundation of our relationship was built on communication and honesty. Katy and I are constantly checking in with each other and we truly are going further together.
As you adapt to change, the beautiful moments start to outshine the tough ones. Sailing teaches you that and this is a perfect example. Backing away from this dock, just us two with a beautiful sunrise over the jungle canopy is what I imagined the first time would be like. But as always, life doesn’t happen how you think it will and if you spend your days wondering why not, you will certainly miss out on whats important, which is the duality of life. You cant have one without the other. The hard days whether they are in your head or outside your body, will pass. Shit happens, but there are always brighter days coming.
Enjoy!

What a great video, I found this channel recently and started following from your start on Boundless and decided immediately to subscribe. I am retired now here in Wellington NZ but I spent many wonderful years helping friends with there boats mostly solving engine problems for them ( that was my trade) and in return enjoyed sailing around the beautiful Malborah Sounds. What makes your videos appeal to me the most is your outright honesty of everything you do and having bought a new boat the way you set about giving it a very thorough check over before you took off sailing the ocean, you found things that needed fixing and did it and then got off the Mariner and set sail. In this video I could sense your trepidation and nerves but setting out into the swell with the amount of rolling that you experienced was to me quite understandable, I will be following continuously from now on 😊😊👍👍🇳🇿

Ive fought seasickness for 40 years now. Used many different meds, but the very best solution Ive found involves no meds into the body. Just a single foam earplug, like you would use in a noisy engine room, in one ear and my motion sensitivity drops by %50. No more scopolamine, nothing, just the ear plug. Enjoyed your vid, best wishes for on your new boat adventures.

The excitement of your first sail aboard Boundless must have been full of anxiety and trepidation and we are so proud of you both sharing this simply marvelous episode. Being able to talk about this anxiety in unison is a joy to behold. Marvelous first sail and we are all praying you well as we learn Boundless together through these beautiful episode's.

You guys are the most honest sailors on youtube. Describing your true emotions on your first sail on the new boat was from the heart. Every new boat that I have owned, I had many of the same feelings as you. This is especially the case when the new boat is 10 feet longer and you head to the dock for the first time. Really enjoy your channel. Cheers from Austin, TX

I've trolled this channel in the past, but videos like this are why I keep coming back: boat work, the vulnerability/honesty, and some sailing. One of your best since the early days in the Canal. 19:33 - 19:42 looks pretty rolly! Not surprised Katy got seasick. Surely even a bit of sail would've stabilized Boundless in that moment? Glad you guys are back on the seas!

@@SailingSeawindI have been cruising since the mid 80's with over 200,000 miles under my belt, but that motion would have me seasick too. Why didn't you put the main up to damp the roll? I use an over the counter anti-histamine for seasickness, usually called phenergan. I take the smallest dose available, usually 10mg every 6 hours. It makes me drowsy so I take caffeine pills ( or just lots of coffee) and it works well.

It truly has been amazing to see how much you two have grown since this channel started, Parker. You and Katy have forged such a huge path forward in embarking on so many adventures together and Boundless looks like just a majestic work of art!! Gotta say I'm slightly jealous of the scenery you guys get to experience but it's just as good being able to see and understand through the view you both portray. There are certainly going to be ups and downs but you two are handling it amazingly. One other thing I have to add is the commentary, the editing, videography....you guys are hitting it out of the park on!!! Can't wait to see what the future holds for you two!!!

Great video! A video I can totally relate to: I just bought a new to me Boat as well, and I still haven’t taken it out off the slip yet. It’s actually very similar construction and design to yours. Plus, it’s a lot bigger than my old boat and I have the same fears about leaving the dock. Panama is magical! I spent last January there, staying both at Linton Bay and Shelter Bay marina. I played with the idea of buying a boat there as well. Will be following your adventures with much anticipation!

I noticed when you were making the preventive leak repair to the bullworks that the filler cap flange (fuel/water) was not completely sealed between the flange and deck. Just a note. YOUR VOYAGE WILL BE SUCCESSFUL and your FEARS are normal anxiety any intelligent captain would have on a new vessel with limited knowledge of its systems and quirks just deep dive into your vessels systems with time and gather courage with each voyage and challenge. Eventually you find yourself with calm and joy having found peace with your sailboat and confidence in your abilities.

If you are sailing into the wind you put up the Main sail based on the amount of wind you are dealing with. Less wind more, more wind less but it will sabilize the rolling and pitching. If you are sailing down wind then unfurl the Jib or Genoa, again based on wind velocity. It only helps until you are in overpowering seas. In that case stay put until you have a better weather window. And may you always have Fair wind and following Sea. God Bless, and He will. John K

Girls, the sea is no place for role games from the last centuries. If you don't want to learn how to maintain the boat and how to save it and your beloved, stay on land !!! It's different from cruising the coast a little. One day she might need to catch him out of the water, he may hit by the boom and be unconscious, hurt or whatever not being able to give some advice or do the work himself. Right in front of a busy merchant port the engine fails in a storm with heavy onshore seas. Men are also not interested in getting the hands oily or worse into the toilet pump. But most of us do it because nobody else can and even wants to learn how to do. It's so convenient... The sea won't ask you if you're able to and step back, it's no place for being naive or ignorant. In your interest and the family, get into it !!!!

Additionally there's to say, that most crews even share the housekeeping duties on board. For what reason? The shopping bags are so heavy... And when back on board maintenance is waiting for him and she'll read meanwhile... Not with me. Maintenance makes at least double the housekeeping hours on a 40 ft boat. And most men keep quiet about that. I don't get it. Apart from the safety thing it's just not fair.

Katy is an excellent project partner and loves getting her hands dirty 😊 she is also teaching me the art of slowing down and living in the moment more. That had led to more time for both of us for self care. Reading books, yoga, cooking meals together. We both very much enjoy our balance ❤️
