I first read this Yeats poem in college, as a young man. Now, in middle age, more than twenty years later, I wept reading this with you. So, so beautiful. Thank you, as always.

This may be my one single favorite poem, thank you for this video

I just want to let you know that I deeply appreciate your poetry. You and a handful of others have been one of my few sources of consolation, without which I might not still be here. You affect more people than you know, thank you.

Absolutely love the history within the byzantine my personal favourite subject being the varangian guard of the old empire before they were overran by the ottomans unfortunately Still today spoke highly of their service and oath of loyalty and Absolute battle fury like berserkers dawned in gold First many of these were raiders from the North in search of riches via the tails they had been told from previous sailing parties and when the empire become weak towards the end of its rain many saxon warriors came from England taking up arms within the ranks of the varangian and stood firmly against the ottoman before being driven into fire (they pushed the varangians into a barn since they were the only ones left and set the barn alight) History buffs on the subject will tell you how sincerely loyal to the empire they were and being directly paid via the emperors hand (something like 40x the average pay) one harald hardrada joined the ranks in the early days and sailed back to Norway with enough gold to rise his own army and effectively became king for the following 20 years

i loved your sonnet for St Paul. it had the ring of a Troparion, a hymn that calls us into the contemplation of a person or a deed larger on the inside than on the out. to hear a poem from the poet's lips is best.

Thank you as always. As much as I'm inspired by your readings, I'm still unable to make sense of Yeats, to a greater extent even than Keats. The most I can make out of this is the last line, which reminds me of Pink Floyd's "...and all that is now/ and all that is gone/ and all that's to come/ and everything under the sun...". But even then, "Eclipse" refers more to Ecclesiastes than Yeats. 'Gold enamelling and Grecian goldsmiths'? It sounds nice but I have no idea what this guy is trying to say. I would be grateful for some elementary guidance from you.

Sorry to refer so much to norse/saxon history so much but I cannot help but see the similarity of Yates outlook on byzantine (eternal) as the same way many warriors referred to byzantine rivers running with pure gold and it being a place of pure wealth both within riches and health I could be wrong but I do remember many of the raiding party's talking of how even just the rivers alone seem to run with pure gold and you'll find beautiful women beyond your dreams comprehension 😅 I'm sure many of them did too but all of the back of rumours or passing folktales of lands beyond the mountains nd sea

I have found the Fountain of Youth The Cornucopia of LOVE resides inside each Soul. The eternal effusion that grows by being unconditionally and freely given, and directed. Spend your Love directed at the beautiful or poinient, and do it completely, Emanating it forth. And then...Love will replenish and so fill your heart a flooding gushing energy that you must not ever Hold, a treasure that must Be unimpededly given or Perish and wither, not only It, but you Do this thing. And you will be FullFilled. Avarice is a sink hole that grows by what it feeds on. It swallows whole it's Acolytes, ravages their Reason, and so deranges their Logic that they would let their Mammon God so devour and poison our World that None would exist. No more. This shrugging of the Beastial Avarice? It is the final Battle. Let Canny Swift Angels ordered by our better mature Swoop! Upon the GreedMachine in all its forms. Wish US luck. !

Great Britian sure looks great if this is what it's all about. Love for life and all things. What more is there? A person has so much freedom, enough to become a scolar. I'm from N.Y. and most of it is the dregs of society. You in your Country become better people and New York is the Apple in decay. It rots. Drugs, murder and rape were commonplace until the war has ended and prior was worse. I once had a conversation with a N.Y.C. homicide Detective who said all day and night long they went looking for bodies to identify. Because there were so many they just went to crematoriums. N.Y.C. didn't have the money or time to identify any of them usually. Great Britian, a place to live a good life. I'm actually so sorry I was born here. You have it good.

Great Britain is far worse off than us. London is just as bad if not worse than New York. Just because a scholar has the current freedom to share his thoughts does not mean the UK is better than the US. The UK is bad off and the US is right behind them…

In the wake of the destruction and desecration that was the Enlightenment, it is unfathomable to me that any could still praise reason, it has proven the greatest curse mankind has ever known. I will take the barbarian hordes over so-called 'reasonable men.'

Istanbul! What a city! I visited there in April of this year 2023. I tasted Turkish coffee ☕️. Had Turkish Delight and tea at the Bazaar. Visited Sofia and The Blue Mosque. The Sultan’s Palace. Dinner cruise on the Marmara. Such sweet people too. Great 👍 experience. We went to Athens. After that the Dalmatian Coast.
