Sailing around Europes HIDDEN Continent
Becka's parents had arrived onboard Teulu for the week, and what better place to show them around than on the island of Gran Canaria. Coined for being Europes hidden continent, due to the wide range of climates and vastly dynamic landscapes, we sailed, we explored and we hiked to our hearts content.

About Us
We are Becka and Zach, a couple who, in 2020, dreamt of sailing off into the big blue. Trouble is- we were in a pandemic, had a university degree to finish, on a student budget, only had ever sailed dingies, oh and didn’t have a boat. The dream seemed not only unrealistic but pretty insane.
However, we worked hard, finished our degrees, worked as many hours as physically possible, saved with all our might, got experience and in March 2022 bought our very own sailboat, Teulu. Having little sailing experience and being a young couple, we have encountered a tonne of hurdles and made plenty of mistakes! but for every downfall, there has always been a reason to dust ourselves off and carry on.
We hope you can join us as we sail around the world and keep #bloodydoingit

The moments where you’re parents give you praise when you’re not there and you only find out while editing must make you feel so proud of yourselves…. And as you both well should

It was a lovely surprise to find it ☺️ Thanks Michael!
Love the new intro and great you kept your catch phrase…. I think this is your best episode yet, full of happiness, beautiful scenery, a lovely sail and I’ve no doubt your parents loved every minute of it and it probably gave them comfort that you know what you are doing for your Atlantic crossing. You will cherish these moments sharing your new passion with loved ones. Stay safe and I hope the Caribbean is being kind to you. Andy UK

That is a cool situation with your parents coming to visit and getting a little out of their comfort zone. The people who built the both of you have done a great job.

It was so lovely seeing them again, thanks ☺️
Just started watching you guys about a week ago. I started back from when you first started looking at boats. I have been watching sailing channels for a while now and love that ive found some brits! For me with 3 kids and a dog, i think camper van and travelling that way is our way atm. However its truely inspirational watching some fellow brits do it, from nothing !. We are in devon, so plenty of opportunities for sailing lessons around here, and im truly convinced to have a go at the least. Im sure it could add some more fun to our travels in some way. Your parents must be so so proud. As a 31 year old mum of 3, the eldest being 13 and youngest 4! I couldn't even imagine the pride i would feel, watching them going from newborn to walking, talking, and then sailing a boat ! I bet your parents have a little cry here and there with pure pride and joy.
When the drone panned up the rock I was just thinking your drone skills had come on in leaps and bounds. Then Zach showed Becka running for the drone and I was worried I might have thought so too soon. However all was well, and I can't wait for the Atlantic crossing now. Keep on enjoying life and sharing that pleasure with us.

I have been fascinated with your journey and have been watching a scattering of your videos. Your camera work is amazing and I love your enthusiasm and lovely Spirit. I became a Patreon today. Carry on. I am 75, started sailing at 12 in Florida - have had 2 wooden sailboats, a 33' Alden Malabar Jr in Seattle and a 37' overall Wm. Garden Vashon Island cutter in Sausalito, California. Then went into offshore fishing powerboat out of Bodega Bay, California. You are a Joy to watch. I have been to the Canaries, lovely place.

I loved this episode. It is one of my favorites. As a parent with three adult children, it’s always great to watch them succeed. I loved the comments from your parents that you discovered when you were editing. That was a precious moment for you and a memory to keep. I think what struck me the most was how much I wanted to interview your parents. I would love to hear and have an expanding conversation about what their journey has been watching you two set out and do this marvelous thing. That, to me, would be fascinating. Blue, so blue the ocean you sail on.

I found your site as I'm a keen sailor, but I'm also a very keen musician (guitar, bass, piano and sax). I have to say, the music on your videos is really great, and not the sort of stuff that most people listen too. Do you spend hours listening to music to find the perfect track, or do you just have a very eclectic and wide musical taste?
@TeuluTribe

Welcome aboard! Thanks, we normally spend an hour or two finding the right track 😊 We both like a very wide range of music.

The indigenous people of the Canary Islands were called the Guanches, who were probably related to the Berbers of north Africa. Iberian conquest in the 15th century largely destroyed them, becoming the prototype of the conquest of the Americas. Elements of the Guanches DNA and culture do though survive in the settler population.
Just wow!!!

Great video. A lot of 3 second B-roll clips. Great for storytelling and entertaining to watch. How much effort do y’all put into filming? What I mean is, do you just roll the cameras continuously and pick out the footage you want in editing. Or do you just see a pond, or someone’s pet and think, “let’s film that for a few seconds”. Or do you storyboard each episode, plan shots, outline scripts and scenes and whatnot. For instance, the scene at the end, telling your folks goodbye. I wouldn’t be thinking, “hold on, I need to film this to conclude this episode”. I would simply give hugs and say goodbye, and later on during editing think to myself, “I missed a great way to conclude this episode when our parents left”. I’m just curious.
@TeuluTribe
Жыл бұрын
Thanks. That’s a bit if a hard question to answer, we mostly just roll the camera and pick out the bits we want. The majority of footage gets scrapped or cut down. We just film and over the course of about a week, give or take a few days. There is normally a natural ending to what we have been doing so no need to film a scripted conclusion (however every episode is different so sometimes we have to think of an ending).
I'm surprised Zach could fit his head back inside the cabin with all the praise he was getting! I'd bet there was a good laugh hearing your mum's comment while editing! Well done though, honestly.
