Sailing across the North sea

We sail across the North sea from Holland to the UK after buying a sailboat in Monnikendam, Holland.
We spend a winter in Holland and talk about our favorite places in the Markermeer and IJlemeer. We then bring her down to the South coast for a refit ready for long term cruising.
P.S. We will be adding lots of tips on anything to do with sailing on our new website. There's a 'Tips and Tricks' page and a technical page for all the geeky stuff. Or you can just watch the pretty pictures and follow our sailing journey.

Nice you bought a Dutch boat. She looks strong and ready for anything. In the Parkkade Rotterdam Jachthaven there used to be plenty of old Dutch barges who finished their working life,

Glad to see you bought her, I've seen her at De Valk before and thought she was the prettiest boat in the marina - just way outside my budget :D

Lovely boat! Congratulations! Unfortunately the vast majority of dealers we met on our "buy a boat" path were a total waste of time and money... Maybe it is a part of the flavour of the whole thing! :) Fair winds!

My wife and I visited Eastbourne in February 2001. There was a small music festival there that weekend. The following week was spent driving around Ireland.

It would be a good idea for you guys to set a Patreon page. So people can contribute towards the running cost of your boat

Nice video. Can I ask, do you need any kind of licence or permit to sail a boat across the North Sea? I hear you mentioned you should call ahead if passing (and presumable wishing to enter) busy ports - but is that it? If you just wanted to sail across and drop anchor off of the Dutch coast is there any permission you need to seek in advance of setting off?

Before Brexit, no, free movement within Europe so nothing to be done. Post Brexit you'll have to check in, I think at least in France it can be done in advance online, not sure about the Netherlands we haven't sailed that area after Brexit.

Sadly I was being kind. The yacht brokers we were unfortunate enough to deal with in the UK were frankly terrible. One was 2 hours late, didn't apologise and then proceed to bullshit us about every detail of a clearly 3rd rate boat. Very different experience in Holland. As a Brit this is not something I like to report, it just happens to be my experience.
