Welcome to Chasing Latitudes! Have you ever imagined the smell of the ocean air as your boat crashes through the waves? The freedom that comes from casting off the bow lines and heading out to sea to explore new places you can’t reach by car or airplane? Then this channel is for you.
You will not see white sand beaches here, restaurant reviews, beach parties, selfies or Japanese knives. What you will find is factual information based on decades of sailing experience.
My channel is specifically meant for one thing and one thing only, to help YOU find your new to you fancy-dancy yacht of your dreams and get on the water in the fastest, most time efficient manner.
Don’t get caught up in looking at old boats! I focus on mostly newer vessels, built in 2000 or later because I want you to spend as much of your time as possible sailing, not practicing your restoration skills on an old boat attempting to bring it to its former glory.
You want to take advantage of the amazing newer technology and modern hull designs when it comes to sailing. This is going to make your vessel far easier to sail solol or short handed and make them far more comfortable and efficient to live aboard full time or even just weekenders without buying more boat than you need.
I offer a wide variety of services including consulting where I will take you through the entire process of how to budget properly, choosing what vessel size will work for your needs, what type of vessel, I will help you shop for vessels, determine offer prices, schedule surveys, talk with brokers, teach you how to do your own pre-survey, walk you through hiring the correct surveyor and help you avoid all of the common pitfalls that you will find when purchasing used sailing vessels.
The consulting does not stop there, I will be with you every step of the way and long after you have purchased your vessel as consulting also comes with lifetime access to the members area,.
Chasing Latitudes hosts a large, active private members area where the members are more than happy to offer their own experience to solve problems, host private videos for ASA Sailing quizzes (ASA 101, 103, & 104), and live stream videos which feature anything from member cruising to boat shopping, boat comparisons, and other live content with chat from the subscribers to my KZread channel and channel members.
It’s time for YOU to get on the water. Come aboard!

Hi, new sailor here. I want a "69 footer" and I prefer a very dark interior, steep ladder for entry, single helm, leopard print seats with a black/white checkered floor, a double sink, meaningful comfort and capsize ratio and it must be the best boat brand in the world--a Catalina. I found some interesting leads with many exterior photos for you to enjoy. Also, the broker was kind enough to copy and paste information from the main website for your convenience. My budget is $42,069 and I need to be ready to sail the Indian Ocean in 5 days. Thanks.

Full skeg, center console definitely what you’re looking for. If the compass in the listing photo is nice and shiny, then it’s a keeper.

Happily in my 35 years of ocean crossings i have met every kind of cruiser possible in all kinds of boats and budgets. From 20 feet to 3,000.00 a year budget. To 175 feet with a helicopter and 50 million a year budget. In the same beach bar.

Hands down,Chris has the best KZread sailing channel and doesn't get the love he deserves. His honest opinions probably scare people away, but i feel those who stay benefit immensely from his experience. With his help, i intended to buy my first boat in 2024 and sail around the UK 🇬🇧 and Ireland 🇮🇪. When I see a thumbnail with girls assess and scared faces, I immediately pass and block. Happy '24 Chris, please keep making solid videos.

In the late 70's the U.S. Navy developed OTSR (Optimum Track Ships Routing) system. That was fun. We also did OPARS (Optimum Path Aircraft Routing System) which was much more complex. We have come a long way baby!

Found your videos a few weeks ago and absolutely love them. Your sailboat guidance is amazing. Looking to buy liveaboard for me and my dog to retire on and replace by boat lost in Irma.

Great video on sailboat route planning! It's always important to plan ahead and consider factors like wind patterns, currents, and safety. Also, loved reading the diverse experiences shared by fellow sailors in the comments. Remember, every sailor started somewhere, so keep learning and exploring the beautiful ocean. Fair winds and smooth sailing!

About 6 mos ago, 2 of my best freinds were relocating their boat from Mazatlan to San Diego. I was supposed to go but work got in the way. A 3rd man joined the crew, bringinging the combined experience to over 100yrs. Frank n Kerry were experienced licensed captains. It was a very well maintained 48' Lafitte. They dissappeared enroute to Cabo, without a single trace, distress call or signal. I used to want to sail across oceans, but this one shook that right out of me! And im a ak crabber seen on tv. Just got back from st mathew island on a 58 ftr. And i just bought a morgan 41. Doubt ill ever leave sight of coast. Makes no sense

I want emphasize- they had an ipirb, sat phone, life raft, everything. There were other boats in area within vhf range. There wasn't even a peep, debris float, nothing. Whatever happened, happened so quick they couldn't even get a call or èmergancy signal out.

Hi, love your videos, they really and in your face and I love it. I have been on a sailboat a month ago and had the worst seasickness. I would say that it is a dream for me to live on a sailboat in the Caribbeans, however I’m afraid that the seasickness would kill my dream. Can you tell from your experience is this something one can get used to with time? How to handle it? Etc. Thanks

Sorry for your loss ... ! Great channel. A little light on bikini babes. Having seen you respond to several comments lately, I'm going to try to provoke a reaction ... Is there a length/speed that are self cleaning? (Shit Job!) Given a good, but not infinite, budget, what are the longest boat you can single sail, when you have front/stern trusters and all the electronics available? I know your answer, 42-44, but I want a longer boat for speed and the (perhaps mythical) self-cleaning hull! I also have a 5.1 feet second mate ...
